Crime Ridden Memphis

Another example of incompetent fools running a City of Memphis department.

Downtown county clerk’s office closing vehicle, title departments

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — If you live in downtown Memphis and need to go to the county clerk’s office to register a vehicle, you will be out of luck for the next two weeks.

The Shelby County Clerk’s Office said its downtown location will close the motor vehicle and title departments for the week of Jan. 24 – 27 and the week of Jan. 30 – Feb. 3 so it can process and clear motor vehicle registration and title requests.

Shelby County mayor Lee Harris responded Tuesday to the closure of the MVR and title departments saying:
The closure of Clerk Wanda Halbert’s Downtown MVR and Title departments was a shock to me as well as Shelby County residents who need those services. Clerk Halbert needs to have all departments open and focus on filling open roles in her offices. Clerk Halbert needs to be held more accountable. I’d like to see her regular reports to the Shelby County Commission begin again. This is a problem that is not going away. More pressure needs to be put on Clerk Halbert to adopt serious reforms.

I live about 45 minutes or so outside of Memphis/Shelby county so it should be an interesting weekend.

You think they will riot the same as if the cops were white? I don’t

That's not what I said. I'm saying the absolutely moronic decision of releasing it on a Friday will increase raw emotion this weekend and spontaneity of protests. This is what leads to protests turning violent....

Initially, I didn’t think so. But the attorney Crump is still spinning this as a black victim of police brutality issue. So what this this going to do is put more police in danger. It does seem like this video is going to cause a lot of outrage.

Dems love to riot, I could see some unrest but nothing to the degree we see when it's a white cop involved. You may get some random small scale vandalism by the democrats there but I would be surprised if it got too bad. You replace the 5 cops with 5 white cops and the city would burn and so would most major cities across the country.

While I generally agree with everything you said, the antifa groups will use this alongside with the stuff in Atlanta to justify acting out. I don’t think it will massive, but I absolutely would expect rioting to happen this weekend and next after the release of the video.

What saved Nashville is going to the Metro Government when it did, otherwise it wouldn’t be much if any different than Memphis.
I’m not sure Nashville is all that demonstrably better. They probably do a better job with containment.

They have a huge safety net with state jobs supporting the economy and the state R leadership supporting the surrounding counties and neglecting Shebly.

Memphis has a lot of self inflicted issues but they were handed a much worse hand than Nashville....

For sure.

But you know how patchwork Memphis is. Nashville has done a much better job with containment - to their credit. Imo.

Nashville has been on a full steam ahead gentrification push for the last decade or more, they can do that because of the Metro Government adopted in the 60s. Memphis is trapped by the surrounding cities and Shelby county wanting no part of Memphis proper.

All 5 officers are black, I don't think much will happen.

If it’s as bad as all the local, state, and federal officials are making it out to be then there might be. To fire and charge these officers before the video is even released is pretty damning.

There have been rallies and vigils in Krutch Park all week. No protests or marches yet.
I guess they’re coming. It doesn’t sound good, and unfortunately this officers may have murdered this man. This is probably going to get real ugly.
