Crime Ridden Memphis

Knoxville

You know the crime rate in Knoxville is far above the national average. What kind of man would live there? Why don't you move somewhere else with less crime. If something happens to you or your family, it's all your fault.

The last UT football coach has filled the roster with Memphis players, Could it be they were not signed by other teams because of where they live?

No, it was because David Johnson, the RB coach, had extensive ties to Memphis from coaching there.

Every major school was going after Eric Gray

If you’re trying to make a point, you’re failing miserably.

I wouldn’t allow my wife or daughters to run at 4am here.

Ready to try again?

He had two charges tacked on this weekend for identity theft and debit card stealing. On 9/1, he stole debit cards from Malco Cordova. The theater and his boss identified him. How the police caught him so quick for the kidnapping was because he wore the same slides for the crime at the Malco the day before.

Give me a few and I'll find the official police report.

EDIT - For the non-arrest on 9/1

This will get real ugly.

But do you allow her out of the house? Into a city with higher than average crime

She ran along a well lit, well traveled street in one of the safest areas in town. It's not like she ran through the hood.

“Safest” is relative. There is a “best meal” at Hardee’s, it is still a crappy meal.

I wouldn’t allow my wife nor any daughter living under my roof to do this.

It is flat out stupid.

Tiny women are great targets for sexual predators. So I’d say running alone was what she did wrong.

In this case, this tiny woman chose to run in the dark in a city known the be crime ridden. It is a horrendously poor decision and has cost some children their mother. The father is an idiot for not putting his foot down on this decision.
Going to have to agree here on this. One has to be situationally aware of their environment. Wife is a nurse. Has a Glock 43 in her vehicle and a carry permit. Place of business does not allow sidearms to be carried. A fellow nurse was attacked in the parking lot while walking to her car after her shift. Security provided is not worth two farts in the wind. Wife now carries a .22 Magnum revolver "get-off-me" gun. I've made her practice using it, where and how to shoot any idiot that attempts an attack. Twice in the torso and the rest in the pelvic area; .22 Magnums bouncing around the pelvic bones are going to cause significant damage and should end the fight.

I can understand that some feel like it is "victim shaming" and the victims should not have been victims if someone else (DA, social policy) had not screwed up. But I'd rather be considered a bit over the top instead of dead and dumped somewhere.

This will get real ugly.

I suspect this aspect of the story will blow up soon.

Contrary to public opinion, most of the crime in Memphis is concentrated in certain areas and is almost all gang related.

This kidnapping and murder is different since it hits a part of the city with limited crime and isn't gang related.

This attack happened at the University of Memphis, which statistically speaking, is far safer than UTK.

Body found in hunt for 'kidnapped' billionaire heiress: Large police presence as helicopter circles around heavily wooded area just a Hundred Yards Away From Suspect's Brother's House

A body was found on Monday evening in the area that was cordoned off by law enforcement in Memphis amid the frantic search for missing mother-of-two Eliza Fletcher.

Police have not confirmed that the body that was found is that of Fletcher. The missing billionaire heiress vanished while out for a jog around 4:30 am in Memphis. Monday's discovery is around seven miles from where she was last seen.

The area being searched is beside the Longview Gardens apartment complex, where kidnapping suspect Cleotha Abston's brother, Mario, lives.

Suspect Cleotha Abston, pictured here shortly after his release from prison in 2020, is being held on a $500,000 bond in relation to kidnapping charges

Eliza Fletcher, 34, was kidnapped after being forced into a black SUV on Friday. The driver of that SUV, Cleotha Abston, was arrested over the weekend

Sad but expected. Another black on white hate crime that will be ignored and buried in the dust bin. See Christian/Newsome, etc., etc. There is a web site that tracks these incidents and the last time I posted the link a mod squished it with no explanation. Educate yourself!

This is going to stoke some serious anger.

Shouldn't. Running alone in the dark in Knoxville is not a bright move either, IMO. I don't think a female running alone in the dark anywhere along a public street is a bright idea because one never knows when a fruitcake will come driving along.

Pretty accurate statement on the crime rate in Knoxville. Have a few friends that work in EMT and it is amazing how the gang related violence is not being reported. If it was reported daily it would alarm alot of Knoxvillians. The Detroit drug pipeline and the territory shootings in Western Heights are almost daily.

Here is a question: has some of the "woke" messaging from society that women are just a strong/capable as men contributed to more victims like this? Instead of telling the freaking truth to our daughters and wives that no matter what the TV/movie messaging says, there is a 99.9% (I don't know, but doubt the % does not favor men significantly) chance a physical encounter between a man and woman is going to go badly for the woman. No matter what a girl thinks, the cold, hard truth is she is not going to turn into She-Hulk and win a physical altercation.

Look up the drive by that happened in Cedar Bluff a few weeks ago. No real news coverage.

She has a right to jog whenever, and live doing it.

Do you have a link to this particular or have more detail of who it involved? I was surprised about a year ago when I was told there are MS13 houses in Knoxville. Would not have believed it myself had my wife and I not seen one a few weeks ago at breakfast.
