BTW, Dick isn't Russell... not even close. So I don't think Arkansas will make a living with the pass. The most comparable teams UT has played to Arkansas concerning style are Cal and Bama. Neither did well offensively.
I agree with that. From a raw talent standpoint, they are as athletic as anyone, but they seem to have issues with focus and decision making.
LSU physically dominated UT. They've physically dominated everyone they've played. That's talent.
Their problem is that Miles is beginning to have an effect and its showing in their discipline, consistency, and execution. If Pelini or Fisher jump this year which is fairly likely... I think they're about 2 years from playing for 3rd in the west.
Average? Have you played us yet? Then you wouldn't know...we played average last week, but maybe we will play amazing this week. You don't know and neither do I. All I do know is that our average defense has helped lead us to first place in the SEC.
They play well against a certain style... specifically, yours.I am not so bold as to guarantee a Razorback win. I will however, guarantee Arkansas will do very well offensively. Better linebackers, and better D lines have tried to stop the Arkansas run game, but only a few have managed to even slow it.
Agreed that Dick isn't going to throw it around like Russell. Our luxury is that he doesn't have to. He can, however, throw it well enough to keep Tennesse honest enough not to stack the box.
And let's be honest. Tennessee's rush defense ain't exactly the Steel Curtain.

has crompton ever started in a road game in such a hostle atmophere? i wonder how well he will take it
Expect to see a package Saturday night where McFadden gets the direct snap out of shotgun and either hands it off to Jones on the reverse or runs it himself.
Used to be the same way in NC where I grew up. Teams from the mountains and piedmont routinely smacked teams from east of the Charlotte to Durham line where all the great athletes were.I have to agree with this.
It's a different level, but in Arkansas high school football, the southeast portion of the state is dominated with great athletes, but they play on very poorly ran football teams.
Discipline seems to be a major factor. Every year, the northwest and central Arkansas teams beat the tar out of the southeast, when the southeast clearly has the best athletes.
It reminds me very much of LSU in the SEC.
they are tough as nails on the road with their backs against the wall when EVERYONE is counting them out. Keep fueling the fire!!
This Razorback fan certainly isn't counting them out. Hell, I'm just hoping Arkansas plays well. In fact, I've seen very few Razorback fans count the Vols out here, or on the Arkansas boards.
FTR, that poor ol' RS freshman playing his first real game against the #1 defense in the country threw as well as any other QB has against them... More scores and yardage than Leak or Cox... the pre-season picks to be All SEC.
We don't know about him yet. He might be exposed against Arkansas. He might freeze under the pressure... OTOH, he might light Arkansas up.
I haven't been around much since the game so I probably missed the discussion but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him run over LSU's db.
miles has had what most coaches would call the most talented team in the sec 2 years in a row and no sec championships. he hasnt really impressed me as a coach but we'll see.
Let's just hope that JC has been working on game management this week. He made two spectacular 'big plays' on Saturday. However, the Arkansas game is going to be a race to 35 or 42. I think JC is going to have to work through his progressions better, and our WRs need to help him out by catching everything they can get their hands on.
