Crompton is a go for sat

BTW, Dick isn't Russell... not even close. So I don't think Arkansas will make a living with the pass. The most comparable teams UT has played to Arkansas concerning style are Cal and Bama. Neither did well offensively.

I am not so bold as to guarantee a Razorback win. I will however, guarantee Arkansas will do very well offensively. Better linebackers, and better D lines have tried to stop the Arkansas run game, but only a few have managed to even slow it.

Agreed that Dick isn't going to throw it around like Russell. Our luxury is that he doesn't have to. He can, however, throw it well enough to keep Tennesse honest enough not to stack the box.

And let's be honest. Tennessee's rush defense ain't exactly the Steel Curtain.

LSU physically dominated UT. They've physically dominated everyone they've played. That's talent.

Their problem is that Miles is beginning to have an effect and its showing in their discipline, consistency, and execution. If Pelini or Fisher jump this year which is fairly likely... I think they're about 2 years from playing for 3rd in the west.
I agree with that. From a raw talent standpoint, they are as athletic as anyone, but they seem to have issues with focus and decision making.

miles has had what most coaches would call the most talented team in the sec 2 years in a row and no sec championships. he hasnt really impressed me as a coach but we'll see.

Average? Have you played us yet? Then you wouldn't know...we played average last week, but maybe we will play amazing this week. You don't know and neither do I. All I do know is that our average defense has helped lead us to first place in the SEC.

Maybe??

Sure, and our running game will rackup 250....... maybe

They play well against a certain style... specifically, yours.

They have performed poorly when the QB runs... Russell, AFA, Newton, and, to a significant extent, Tebow. Without Tebow's and Russell's runs, UT is 9-0.

I have to agree with this.

It's a different level, but in Arkansas high school football, the southeast portion of the state is dominated with great athletes, but they play on very poorly ran football teams.

Discipline seems to be a major factor. Every year, the northwest and central Arkansas teams beat the tar out of the southeast, when the southeast clearly has the best athletes.

It reminds me very much of LSU in the SEC.

Now for my expert analysis.

I think whoever has the ball last wins.

I think Arkansas will run the ball down our throats. McFadden will have 100+ yds running and Jones will add another 75+. Think about it people. Arkansas has the best two RBS and FB in the nation. South Carolina one of the most mediocre running teams in the SEC was gashing us with Cory Boyd.. LSU had 200+ yds running. Anyone thinking we come anywhere close to shutting down their running game is fooling themselves.

That said I don't think their D is very good and that's why it will be a close game. Mitchell who is a very mediocre QB looked like John Elway once Spurrier went exclusively to the pass which is our biggest strength. Their best LB is hobbled. One of their starting safeties was just lost for the year. Not sure about the dline but I think they might be missing a starter there too?? Point is their defense is banged up and is very average, especially against the pass. Crompton has a week to get ready and he is very confident to be so young, he won't be rattled.

We'll make a lot of plays in the passing game.
They'll make a lot of plays in the running game.

Wilhoit kicks a last second field goal to win it and Nutt cries like a baby.:crossfingers:

31-28 :shaking2:

One more thing fellow vol fans. Expect to see a package Saturday night where McFadden gets the direct snap out of shotgun and either hands it off to Jones on the reverse or runs it himself. Just a heads up because I'm sure they will run this a couple times and it will go for a lot of yards every time they run it.:BANGHEAD2:

Hog fans you have this kid twisted, he really is a Brett Favre type. He is not the nervous type ! He's more the anxious type of kid.

has crompton ever started in a road game in such a hostle atmophere? i wonder how well he will take it

dear sir...with all due respect to arkansas, crompton playing in fornt of the orange nation when all hoped for ainge aint exactly non hostile...baby thats more pressure than the hogs can force, oh yeah, that was against a GREAT defense too. i have all the respect in the world for arkansas, very underated all year, but i beleive mr crompton can handle the situation, go vols go crompton!!!:rock2:

MaFadden has also thrown a touchdown pass out of this formation.

If the Vol D sells out on the run when McFadden goes behind center, he can - most likely will - burn them with a throw. McFadden played quiet a bit of quarterback in high school. Although Tennessee is hardly high school, my point is that McFadden is certainly capable of throwing it on a rope.

Just something else to watch for. :whistling:

I, in no way, have him twisted. Notice I haven't posted an opinion on this kid. I saw him against LSU. He is indeed a very good football player.

Used to be the same way in NC where I grew up. Teams from the mountains and piedmont routinely smacked teams from east of the Charlotte to Durham line where all the great athletes were.

Amazing that we have nearly an 11 page thread discussing something that hasn't even happened yet.
It actually spiraled into a Arkansas defense vs. LSU defense keyboard war fairly quickly.

Although you're right, the only thing that has been announced so far is that Ainge is questionable.

I love hearing Arkansas get all this hype. I actually hope the line pushes to 6 or 7 by week's end. I can think of at least a half dozen times over the last 3-4 years of games where UT was the big underdog, went on the road, played their butts off, and came away with a W. Sure we've let some big home games slip lately, but if my Vols have proven anything lately its that they are tough as nails on the road with their backs against the wall when EVERYONE is counting them out. Keep fueling the fire!!

This Razorback fan certainly isn't counting them out. Hell, I'm just hoping Arkansas plays well. In fact, I've seen very few Razorback fans count the Vols out here, or on the Arkansas boards.

Funny, I've actually read multiple posts where Hog fans are doing exactly that . . . counting the Vols out. Sure, they may say "we're not counting you out" but that's after a long post about how much better the Hogs are than the Vols, than LSU's defense, blah, blah, blah. I think this thing will be decided on the field on Saturday night. Here's to a great contest.

Let's just hope that JC has been working on game management this week. He made two spectacular 'big plays' on Saturday. However, the Arkansas game is going to be a race to 35 or 42. I think JC is going to have to work through his progressions better, and our WRs need to help him out by catching everything they can get their hands on.

FTR, that poor ol' RS freshman playing his first real game against the #1 defense in the country threw as well as any other QB has against them... More scores and yardage than Leak or Cox... the pre-season picks to be All SEC.

We don't know about him yet. He might be exposed against Arkansas. He might freeze under the pressure... OTOH, he might light Arkansas up.

I haven't been around much since the game so I probably missed the discussion but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing him run over LSU's db.

the kid is a gamer. he'll be just fine. i'm more worried about our run defense and our run offense.

i'll go one step further. miles is a terrible coach and is wasting massive talent with 2 loss seasons. i hope miles stays around for a while.

yepp, Cutcliff is making the game plan for the whole game for Jon C. Again, isolation and ball placement will be the key to our passing game.
