Cuonzo receives raise

And this years class is currently what, 2nd in the SEC?

Makinde London is consensus top 100, and borderline top 50, if/when we land him I'm sure you'll be lighting off fireworks.

Did I oversleep and miss signing day? Yes I will be very happy if he gets a top twenty class......I think I heard the same about Austin Nichols once before?

No need.

I bumped the thread where this was discussed at length, I tried to explain why he likely would get a raise and/or extension. About 80% of the people thought I was wrong in that thread....guess not.

Always one to toot your own horn but never a bump when u have been dead wrong...I was correct as well on him getting a raise lol although the raise he got with no extension shows more of. Lack of confidence in Zo.

Since UT has one of the larger basketball venues in the nation along with consistent attendance in the top 5-10 range, its confusing why they choose to budget shop for a Bball coach. The program appears capable of supporting a higher paid / profile coach than $1.3 mil. Hopefully CCM will grow into the position where he can demand a salary commensurate with the size of the program. He appears to be making progress except for the obvious lack of NCAA tournys. Needs to finish this recruiting class strong and hopefully Hubbs is the 5* everyone hopes. Minus the Golden scandal, CCM is keeping everyone in line off the court also. 4% raise appears reasonable, but no tourney this year and he's gotta go.

I've bumped plenty of posts in which I was wrong, and admitted being wrong before. You must have selective reading.

Nobody was arguing with you about if Martin would get a raise. The question is does Martin actually deserve a raise and the answer to that is an emphatic NO. He should take a reduction in salary for 50k not get a raise.

I've wondered this many times, but I've also used this to point out why Martin likely isn't too much on the hot seat. It's farely obvious where the men's basketball ranks on the ADs list, if they're not willing to pay near top dollar for a coach, then I'm guessing they're not really expecting top results from the team either. Which as you mention is sad because the platform is there for it to be a consistent top 20 program, the AD just doesn't wanna hire a top 20 coach.

Apparently the guy that matters and makes this decision, Dave Hart, thought he was deserving. I even said in that thread, I don't necessarily agree that he deserves one, BUT this is the way this business works and he'll likely get one.

It is hush money IMO, CCM knows that we are bringing in the Gruden to be the PA announcer and they have to keep him quiet.

I got no problem with the little bump. Doing it in 3 years into a 5 year contract makes more sense to me, but it really doesn't make a big difference.

Up to this point, I think the good he's done outweighs the fact that we narrowly missed the tournament the past two years.

If we miss it this season, he is likely gone, and if we make it, no one will remember or care about a 50k bump.

I agree that on the surface, we should attract a bigger name, and bigger budget coach. But given the uncertainty of our program and potential sanctions at the time of his hire, no coach worth that kind of money was coming, and it wasn't for lack of trying, despite Hamilton's "Cuonzo was our guy" comments. I think that once it's determined whether CCM is going to work out long-term, this job becomes more attractive to those type coaches. We shouldn't have to dip into the MVC for our next coach. It should be noted though, that the most "unknown" coach in our last five coaching searches (O'Neill, Green, Peterson, Pearl, Martin) was the most successful of the five while at Tennessee.

It's alot of money for many people, but in big-time college athletics, it isn't much. UT probably makes that in concessions before halftime in one football game. They can probably call a big booster and ask for it.

I'd say Tennessee makes that in concessions before kickoff at a football game.

No

Just glad Hart wasnt stupid enough to give him an extension.

Unless I am missing something, I don't believe an extension would mean anything as long as the buyout is kept the same. Now, I don't know the buyout terms, but an extension could have just been sematics.

You may ask why CCM would agree to that, but what leverage would he have to not agree to that?

Hard to understand a raise when the team has failed to make the tournament......

"Zo is getting a 50k raise. 25k on base and 25k his apparel deal. No extension on length of deal. He has 3 years remaining on his original 5 year deal."
