Cuonzo releases Landry

I don't remember you complaining about his commitment 2 years ago, no.

Not sure when I did on here but I was never happy with the commit but. Know I complained on this site well before he was allowed to sign here.

So far I have felt he nailed it with stokes and Hubbs.....good commits with potential(see how they develop) like Richardson, Thompson, and Davis, Moore I thought was a good diamond in the rough when he signed but the rest are very blah....we need to start getting top 15 classes and getting more talent in the top 100

I suggested this earlier without much discussion but the NCAA must do something to protect these kids once they sign an NLI. The kid is locked in and so should the school for 1 full year. If the school doesn't honor the contract then at least one and IMO 2 scholarships should be lost the following year.

What's your opinion on the flip side...if the kid wants out of his LOI?

I think top 15 may be a reach to expect year in and year out, but I do agree with your general premise.

I wish he would start doing it

He's paid to recruit (which he's doing), compete in the SEC (which he's doing), win basketball games (which he's doing), and to do what he can to get into the NCAA tournament without violations (which he's doing). Seems to me he's doing exactly what he's been hired to do so far.

Recruit.....debatable how good he his doing( best class is sixth in the sec), 2. Sec....he has done ok in the SEC but it is the worst major conference out there right now 3.win....he has not won enough 4. He has never in his coaching history made a tournament...Seems you are giving credit before he reaches any real goals.

No he isn't

He's upping his roster, recruiting, etc, all things that mean he's doing what he can to get into the tournament. And now that he's upping his roster, you all are castrating him for doing it. He's not reached the goal, but to say he's not doing what he can is ignorant.

We are not firing Cuonzo. Some of you are ridiculous and have expectations to match. Before Bruce Pearl, Tennessee went quite a few consecutive seasons without an NCAA tournament birth. But now some of you act like its our birth right. Never mind the MCAA investigation, never mind losing our best player to start this season, no Cuonzo sucks because 20 win seasons during adversity was not enough

Cuonzo took over a team without a true PG which was due to Pearl not getting one. And now he goes out an upgrades the position brings in another 5 star player in Hubbs and got a team of And 1 players to D up and play team ball. And you guys want to fire him?

I'm really glad none of you are decision makers at the University of Tennessee, because if some of you were, we would be the laughingstock of the conference.

Stick with your day jobs!

There hasn't been any reasonable arguments for firing martin that I have seen here. However you can bet your ass if there isn't a very quick start to next season there will be plenty of reasons to start having those conversations.

There is a right way and a wrong way. CCM chose the wrong way in this situation. As with any coach who would drop a kid who just signed a LOI to make room for a higher rated kid he should expect to get blasted. Had CCM made this call 5-6 months ago, it would be a non issue.

Considering 6 months ago was November, and Thompson visited for the Mizzou game, why the Hell would Martin do that? Thompson committed then, and then signed April 17. Yeah, smart decision to tell Landry 6 months ago.

That's like telling your boss you're interviewing and all for a rival company before getting the job. Then, if you don't get the job, you're most likely out of the old job. Just plain stupid.

No, that is like the boss being honest with his new employee and telling him he may not be right for the job and that the boss is looking at other options. Had CCM done this 6 months ago, it would not be an issue. Landry was used in this situation as a fall back if CCM could not land a better player. Martin used Landry as a fallback option, it's as simple as that.

Hard to say that when Thompson decommitted in February. But, Martin should've told Landry he was looking at a new point guard 3 months before Thompson was even an option. My god, you all are dumb.

I didn't say fire him in that post but I am irritated with him and losing more and more faith in him.

But how many employers would fire their serviceable employee before having a better one in place? None. Good try though.

CM did the right thing here. I've questioned some of his decision in the past, but he did the right thing here. He has to start getting the Vols in the tournament. Upgrading the talent is a must. This kid will be a good player for a smaller school.

So you just made my point for me. CCM dropped Landry after he was able to secure a better player. LOI be dam*ed, as long as he got a better option, Landry was out. Landry was just his safety blanket to have a PG in this class if he could not land a better one. The fact you see no problem with this tells me all I need to know. Why did Martin not tell Landry of his plans to cut him loose the day Thompson committed? Ahh, he wanted to make sure he signed before dropping a long time committed player. There is not excuse for it.

If the employer wants his employees to stay loyal and work as hard as possible he would honor the contracts that he offered. NLIs are just that. Decisions like this cause disention and teams/companies to lose faith in their leaders.

Happens ALL THE TIME. Ya ever see a thing called the want ads? Monster.com? Lots of jobs open because an employer decided to look for a better candidate for a job. ALOT of jobs are vacant when filled.

He shouldn't have been bringing in landry whether he got thompson or not

If Martin signed Landry and knee Thompson was going to decommit at the time, then I'd agree with you. However, because he didn't know, I don't see it having nearly as big of an issue as you Martin haters suggest. You ***** and moan all year about Martin not signing big time players, you complain about Landry signing and cry about Martin sucking, and then when he does something to improve the roster, handles it in the most timely manner possible, you complain about it. The guy just can't win with you.

That is where I am with this. If CCM knew Landry was not the guy for the job, he should have cut him loose so he had options then. By trying to secure a better player while stringing Landry on, that is where the shady tactics started.
