Cuonzo releases Landry

Happens ALL THE TIME. Ya ever see a thing called the want ads? Monster.com? Lots of jobs open because an employer decided to look for a better candidate for a job. ALOT of jobs are vacant when filled.

Reading comprehension problems? People get fired, aka opening up positions, when they are not SERVICEABLE, like I said. If the employee was serviceable, he wouldn't be fired.

If Martin signed Landry and knee Thompson was going to decommit at the time, then I'd agree with you. However, because he didn't know, I don't see it having nearly as big of an issue as you Martin haters suggest. You ***** and moan all year about Martin not signing big time players, you complain about Landry signing and cry about Martin sucking, and then when he does something to improve the roster, handles it in the most timely manner possible, you complain about it. The guy just can't win with you.

I have had no issues with Martin till now. There are ways to do things and dropping a kid who CCM allowed to sign a LOI to make room for a higher rated kid is as shady as it gets. Once Landry was allowed to sign that LOI, he should have had at least 1 year at Tennessee to see if he could contribute or not. Had CCM decided to go in another direction then, so be it. Landry was a pawn in this. You call it timely manner, I call it shady as hell.

It's the employers job to hire serviceable people. If a contract is signed that person can't be fired before their contract even starts.

Same goes for the LOI. Martin can't end it unless the player asks out. Meaning Martin didn't say "I'm taking away your scholarship." He said something along the lines of "You won't be playing" and Landry asked out.

Yeah, Martin used Landry by letting him sign because Martin knew that Thompson was going to decommit months later. Really? You may believe in psychics, but Martin is not one of them.

Then you'd be on here all season crying about how Martin is a failure for not bringing in a point guard.

I would be crying if the point guard he brought in was landry.....I don't want him to bring in a player that is not quality.

Is that accurate???

There was no scholarship avialable.

That is the part they seem to forget. Only way everyone gets to sign is if Landry is forced out. Landry was the nice guy in all this. I would have told them to GTH and sat the bench for a year. Force a shady coach to have to tell another kid his free ride is no longer available because he was setting the kid up to get burned.

Someone else may have been released, ie Reese or Edwards. You don't know the conversations. Martin is an intelligent man. It would have worked out. All you know is what a butthurt Dad (not blaming, just stating the truth) has said about the man that told his son he's not good enough to play. As others have said, Landry visited schools last week. Therefore, conversations had taken place prior to this news article. Either that, or Landry is a liar and backed out of his end without consulting Martin.

So by NCAA rule the NLI had to be honored???

And another spot would have had to be cleared if he said He was coming regardless??

Our of curiously, what're your feelings on pearl?

Correct. The only way Landry could get out of a LOI was to ask for a release. CCM could not have simply called Landry and said, sorry bro I'm yanking your scholly.

K. I didn't understand that.

In that case I wish a kid someday soon would call bluff and force these coaches to honor the NLI.

Pearl was a winning coach who got caught in a lie. Do I think Pearl had less backlash for shady recruiting tactics when and if he did them, Yes I do. When your winning, you can do things recruiting wise that the losers can't.

I see why you say that, but you have to think of their thought process also. I'm sure Landry wants to play ball...so you think he's gonna call Martina bluff, ride the bench for a year, losing a year of eligibility, transfer to another school, have to sit out a year before he can play...all because he was trying to make a point?

I know the mindset and certainly kids wouldn't come to school anyway other than to be spiteful.

How about him running a kid off 24 hours before summer school was set to start? This was before he won a single game at Tennessee so that reasoning doesn't exactly work. He told a recruit he would honor his LOI, strung him along into June and 24 hours before the kid was set to beging summer classes at UT gets a call from Pearl saying get lost....why? Because pearl saw an opportunity to take a better player and had to make room for him.

Right. I was just saying i get what you mean by saying you hope one of these times a kid calls the coaches bluff, but we all know that's not likely to ever happen.

Good article I think many on here need to read:

The difference being all those players committed to a different coach not Pearl. West didn't qualify so you can throw him completely out of the arguement.

Martin evaluated and signed Landry then hung the kid out to dry. Really no comparision.

Pearl told Dotson he would honor the scholarship, simple as that. He shouldn't have told the kid he would honor his scholarship in March and then wait until June, 24 hours before he's set to begin classes to tell him not to come to UT.
