Cuonzo releases Landry

To make it even more clear, Rob Lewis stated the Huntington Prep coach is pissed off and we can pretty much give up recruiting that school while the current head coach is there.

Doesn't sound like BOT's "theory" that Landry asked to be let out of his LOI has a leg to stand. Not that any intelligent person didn't realize that Saturday when this came out.

doesnt make it right just because they dont complain.

maybe UT has more ethical fans.

You are right, I was just alluding more to the hypocrisy that the fans seem to care a lot less about these unethical actions when you are winning at a high level and a lot more when you aren't.

I don't hear any UK fans blasting Calipari for doing things just like this.

Convincing Harrow to transfer to free up a scholarship. (spoiler alert: Harrow would be better off just riding the bench at UK than playing a year of JUCO, so that isn't in Harrow's best interest)

Convincing a CLEARLY not NBA ready Archie Goodwin to declare in order to free up a scholarship.

Convincing Polson to give up his scholarship rather than forcing him to transfer to free up another. Polson was gonna lose that scholarship one way or another.
Ryan Harrow is transferring to Georgia State.

Here is my solution. Release Cuonzo, hire Marshall and then prepare for excellence.
The pattern with ccm is disturbing. Releasing a player after you signed his replacement? Not right. Plus it seems counter to the character we thought we were getting. People are name game pieces.

Man I can't believe a bigger program hasn't come in and swooped away Marshall yet, I wonder why?

And for you when Coach Martin does it its Ok but for Bruce to do it was tantamount to a felony. We get that you hated Pearl and think Coach Martin walks on water. The truth is coaches do this sort of thing and frankly it is sorry but coaches are all about winning and the morality of things is just a smokescreen. The only difference between the two coaches at this point is that one was a 6 year winner and the other hopes to get there. I really hope he does too.

I haven't praised martin for this move, I've said it's part of the college game. My reasoning for bringing up pearl doing something similar wasn't because I dislike pearl, it was to show, yes this does happen. Many on here are ready to crucify Martin in one breath for doing this, and in the next breath hollering bring back Bruce. If you think I hate Bruce you're wrong, I loved the guy and what he did for the program, I've still got autographed pictures with him hanging in my game room, but I'm also realistic and have moved on. I get what you're saying about what the difference is between the two coaches, however pearl did this his first year before he had won a single game at Tennessee. As you said, coaches do this sort of thing all the time, this was my point from the beginning. Not that it's right or wrong, or ethical or not, but that this is part of the college game. You dislike it, omplain to the NCAA.

I think landry was on a recruiting visit to New Mexico State over the weekend. Obviously he was well aware of what was going to happen, (his release) from UT's LOI.

1. Rob Lewis NEVER said HPs coach was "pissed off", so way to make up lies to try and prove a point, shows your true character.

2. Pop Quiz: how many players has Tennessee signed from Huntington Prep in the history of Tennessee basketball?

2. You still seem to be having trouble grasping this...in order for Travon Landry to be released from his LOI he had to request to be released from it. I'm really not sure how much clearer I can make that, it's a NCAA rule, unless he had grade issues, the sport was removed from the school, or there were recruiting violations...you can't get out of a LOI without requesting it.

West qualified in 2009, after he paid his own way and was promised a scholarship, but it conveniently disappeared. So he's very much within the parameters of the "arguement."

There is probably alot more to that than we know....you have the Dad's version and that is all. I looked up Daniel and he only made it 19 games at another school....Maybe he had issues that he couldnt over come?

You are either Martin himself or you work for him. I would cut and past what Rob said but that isn't right.
He most definitely said we would not be able to sign another kid from that school as long as their current coach is there. Try to spin it any way you want but it just because Martin hasnt signed anybody from that HS before doesn't mean he isnt trying to ie. Lindsey.

Punk move on Martins part and funny how you and UTC are his only defenders.

If you don't release a player from his LOI and he goes to prep school like Tyler did you lose that scholarship for that year.

I have looked all over including NLI rules page and cant find where it says anything like that.....you will have to give me a link.

This is getting blown out of proportion. You guys want to see wins but you complain when CCM upgrades talent. Everything's worked out for Landry and UT now has a top 150 PG who will probably make more of an impact. His job is to win games and winning games starts with recruiting. If he wants to keep his job these sort of things are necessary. Be grateful he's investing in superior talent. Three years from now i bet that majority of you will be singing a different tune.

That is because there is no such rule, this isnt like the salary cap where you have to carry dead weight forward.

Here's what I believe the be the rule:

A kid is entitled to a hearing if his NLI isn't honored and the school would have to prove something academic or unlawful was violated in order for the kid to lose his scholarship.

This is the same thing every athlete is entitled to after 1 yr if their scholarship isn't renewed.

Very few ask for that hearing.

My question is what happens if say both Landry won his hearing and also Reese won his if he was asked to leave.

What would happen then with no scholarship to give both?

Do you think Lee Smith asked out his LOI when Fulmer sent him packing before school started? No he didn't Fulmer released him to go where ever he could find a place that wasn't Tennessee.

Anybody know if Landry is going to have to sit out a year now?

You are trying to convince people that they're wrong about something, and now you're asking if Landry will have to sit out a year? Wow.

Lee Smith had to sit out a year even though he had not enrolled in Fall Classes due to transfer rules so I am wondering if Landry will have to as well or because he hasn't made it to campus yet does that make him eligible immediately. If he has to now sit a year then that makes this 10X worse than before.

I'll cut and paste it if you want...ROB LEWIS NEVER SAID HPs COACH WAS PISSED OFF wanna bet on it, because I'll gladly copy and paste it? The fact you're having to resort to making things up says a lot about you, fortunately for you it's nothing most on here haven't already figured out about you.
