Cuonzo releases Landry

Unethical and wrong. Plain as hell. Not the Tennessee way.

A whole lot of judgement being thrown around from a lot of people who likely do not have all the facts. I for one will continue to trust in CCM until solid proof to the contrary is provided.

It won't matter if it comes out that it was mutual, people will always blame Coach Martin for something.Bruce is not coming back!!

Not liking that Pearl lied is one thing, it doesn't making him a cheating/lying greaseball though.

Kiffy is a greaseball, Cal is a Greaseball, CUM lying to Florida then taking the Ohio St job is. Compared pearl's is nothing and we really need to stop treating it like they are the same.

What proof is missing? Cuonzo offered Landry a scholarship. Landry accepted the offer and signed a letter of intent. Cuonzo oversigned and had to cut one player. No information has come to light that suggests Landry wanted out of of his LOI. Cuonzo has not helped by making no comments on the situation.

Once again a whole lot of assumptions. We know the outcome but no details as to how it come about. It is amazing that we on a message board pretend to no more than those actually in the situation. It easy to set back and second guess.

Please point out the "assumptions" in my post.

You asking that question tells me you will never get it. You have no details and drawing your own conclusions. Until CCM of Landry make a statement providing details no one will know. Being a member of this forum does not mean you know all unless you stayed at a holiday inn.

Would you shut the hell up? God, the stupidity of some people. Landry sucked something awful and was benched almost the entire season. We don't want him. Move on

He wasn't benched.....I agree he sucked and shouldnot have been signed....it's the way it was done that's pitiful.....I won't shut up.....grow a pair

It's part of the job. The kid will get picked up by a smaller team, no big deal. There's only one place for people who try to be perfect and do every single thing morally, and that's the unemployment line. Martin has to do what's best for the team. Once again, he didn't help himself by averaging 3 points a game

If martin is worried about his job.....quit recruiting so many marginal players.....the fact that he recruited.....signed.....and held onto such a marginal player for so long is troublesome. ....the way this was handled is not part of the job

Cuonzo should never have signed him, but knowing what we know now, isn't this the best course of action? Landry wasn't going to play. He's not good enough.

Everyone should get off Cuonzo's case for nudging this guy out. He's doing him a favor. If you want to ping Cuonzo, then ping him for being a poor evaluator of talent.

Cuonzo's job is to win basketball games. Whatever he does (within the rules) to achieve that goal is just fine with me. If he doesn't win, then he'll join all the other ex-Tennessee coaches in collecting a check from the couch at home.

I am starting to wonder if the majority of the people commenting on this story just have a predisposed dislike for Coach Martin. Most people have been freaking out about Landry's numbers and saying we should not take the kid. Now, literally a day later, people are acting like releasing the kid is the most Unethical vile thing that a coach could do.

Landry signed as a Junior when he had better numbers at a lower tier high school. He got around the big boys and underperformed. Ergo he of all people should expect that his future here was on shaky ground. Furthermore we sign Thompson, a guy who looked like he was going to Vandy, to fill the role that Landry would have played.

If anything by releasing him now, instead of after a year of no playing time, CCM has given Landry the chance of finding a school he can play at, which gives him a better chance of a good college career. This was the best move for all involved, and I would be shocked to think that Landry did not see the writing on the wall. If that is the case the dude is just naive as to what it takes to play in the SEC.

Glad someone gets it.

I will wait to see what Travon Landry or Cuonzo Martin says.

But if Landry took a visit to New Mexico last week, it seems obvious that there was communication between the two about Landry getting out of his LOI.

happens all the time and those who are pretending outrage need to get over it. I am of the opinion we could have hired Coach K or Phil Jacskon and the BP extremists would hate the hire. Oh and i loved BP but live in reality

I feel you don't sign a player just to be filling the roster. If CCM could not have signed anyone that can/will help the team, then hold the scholly til next year & sign someone that's going to contribute.

Interesting post by rwbb4 on another board:

Here's exactly what happened regarding Travon. Tennessee called him last Monday, two days before this years signing period and "encouraged" him to seek other schools. Leaving the kid high and dry. Then to add insult to injury they gave his coaches a list of 5-6 schools they thought could use him and Travon's coaches called them and had no interest from any of them. Cuonzo sent them on a wild goose chase to make himself feel better. On another thread it has been suggested that he helped Travon find New Mexico State. That is a lie too. Coach Fulford saw their coaches at an AAU tourney and talked to them and they said they needed a point guard and another Huntington Prep grad, Sim Bhullar, is already there. Travon committed to them yesterday. UT coaches have known for a year and they tell the kid two days before the signing day? C'mon Tennessee! Aren't you better than that? Ill say this...the way they have handled this thing has been horrible and reflects poorly for the entire program. Hey coach Martin, if you are reading this or hear about it you better get a Huntington Prep schedule for next year and circle all of their away games so you can watch Jalen Lindsey. I doubt you will be allowed in their gym ever. Rocky Top that!
