I'm always surprised that any person acts surprised Tennessee recruits at a high level. Every coach who ever coaches here recruits at a high level. Dooley was the worst recruiter in NCAA history and still signed top 25 classes. I can understand Michigan fans maybe not knowing that, but UT fans are acting surprised by it.

Dooley’s Classes averaged 13th in the country.

Butch Jones’ classes averaged 13th in the country.

Pruitt, with his first full class, now sits at 12th or 13th in the country.

Below is a graph that averages total recruiting points for the top ten teams in the last 5 recruiting cycles, from 247.

For example, the last five #1 recruiting teams averaged 316 recruiting points over the last five years. The last five #2 recruiting teams averaged 307 total recruiting points. And so forth down to #10 that averaged 266 total recruiting points over the past five years.

Right now UT sits at 256.9 total points for the 2019 recruiting cycle, and sits at #13 at the 247 site.
If we add Wright to the current list, we bump up to 267.6 points, which is typical of a #9-10 rank.
If we add Wright and To'oto'o, we bump up to 276.09 points, which is typical of a #8-9 rank.
Adding Wright + To'oto'o + Bogle gets us to 282.9 points, which is typical of #5-6 rank.
Adding Wright + To'oto'o + Bogle + Hampton gets us to 288.97, which is typical of a #4-5 rank.

Wright seems very likely, which nearly guarantees a finish around #10.
If the cards fall right and the moon and stars align, then somewhere between #5-10 would be possible.

Ignores average recruit level. Butch and Dooley had larger classes their best years, which led to more attrition.

This will be our highest quality class since Fulmer.

Devo, you are on point. Put in numbers, it looks something like the chart below.

As the 2019 class stands right now, Pruitt has assembled a group of overall higher quality recruits than any of Dooley or Jones' classes, and is the highest quality of recruit since Kiffin's class. Adding Wright and another highly rated recruit, it could surpass the quality of Kiffin's and could be the best since Fulmer's 2005 class.

Fulmer did have some below-par recruiting classes in his last half dozen years.

Pretty impressed with what Pruitt has done with the 2019 class, given the mess Jones left us with. 8-10 wins next year should put us in even better shape for the 2020 class.

I love the assumptions that no one else's recruiting class will improve between now and February. No one gets carried away like our fan base, people start jumping off bridges at the slightest bad news and projecting eternal glory at the slightest success. We need lithium. GBO though, very psyched about Crouch, Solomon, and Gray, if these guys are coached adequately we should be beating Vandy and Missouri again by the time they mature. Baby steps, Pruitt is not a failure if this class ends up at 11 or if we win "only" 7 games next year, or don't win the SEC and beat Bama by 2020.

Chart guys, I wasn't talking to anyone in particular, just reading through all the responses since I last commented. This year we are 13th right now, 6th in the SEC. Realistically, we might could move ahead of Auburn to 5th in the SEC. 10 of our 22 signees/commits are blue chips (four or five star recruits), 25 of Bama's 26 are, 19 of Georgia's 22 are, sucks that we have both on our schedule every year. Great haul though all things considered. I said several weeks ago a Top 15 finish would be great coming off 5-7, and it looks like we'll have one.

No worries; I think a top 15 is a near-lock, with a pretty decent shot at #10 or better. And agreed, either one of those is respectable, considering the past couple years.

Pruitts class isn't over and it isn't full yet. GBO!

"Grudenhaslanded" is spot on with the assessment above. We have recruited okay in the past, but our problem has been coaching them up and getting bang for our bucks. (For a player analysis of the phrase "That's what we get paid for" see the unabridged works of Tyler Bray, circa 2012.)
This class now building is, compared to ones mentioned above, a little below the average but there's still lots to do before it's sealed. But we are sorta kinda getting talented players, but not enough of them to ensure competitive depth. And again, we have to have coaches that demand excellence and know how to train and motivate players to perform at a higher standard than we have seen in recent years.

Having coaches that... know how to train and motivate players to perform at higher standards..... has yet to be proven.

I don’t recall Dooley signing a top 10 class. Did he?

1) Should probably be considered Kiffin's, but yes 2010 was #7 according to 247 composite. A lot of disagreement there, because 247's own ranking has it 13th...but the composite rankings have become the gold standard and is usually referenced, unless youre reading espn. Everyone else knows espn recruiting service is terrible.

2) 27 commits, so it was a big class. Going by average recuit, it was 11th.

3) It was an odd year, a bit lopsided toward the top 3 classes, laving less for others. Our score was 271, which is right on where we'd land wirh Wright this year, yet we'll probably finish 9th to 13th. That is why I prefer looking at average recruits and/or total points. Rankings are a bit overrated, since there's often such a miniscule difference between 3 or 4 spots and relative spots change according to the year, despite having the same score. We are 13th right now at 256.92, yet 11th is 257.69...such an absolutely meaningless difference. But people will focus on it being 13th anyway.

Also, 247 has us at 10th right now. Our 247 ranking is above the composite, while 2010 was the opposite. This is a very good thing, as 247 is much better respected than those ESPN or Rivals doofuses, which factor into the composite.
