Current class rank

If we were technically able to count the tfr that we just picked up from Michigan we would be sitting at 10th. Had we picked up a couple that we got very close to landing we would be fifth or sixth. We have not seen this type of recruiting since Fulmer ( the early years ) :)
I am very pleased with how hard our coaches are working - and the talent we are bringing in. Next year could be a very special class.

Soon.

Since the DT transfer has to sit out 1 year, I would consider him more a part of the 2020 class.

How many interceptions did wonder kid throw again? SEC dbs would eat him for lunch. Learn football.
JG supporters are a dense bunch. He doesn’t throw many interceptions become he’s either taking a sack or throwing to the check down receiver on 3rd & 8 for a two yard gain. Perhaps take your own advice.

Play the best guy! Period!
Trevor Lawrence, Jake Fromm, Tua- Hurts etc...have come in as true freshman and been the man.

Meanwhile, we have a guy going into is 4th year, still only knowing half the game.

Football is a team sport, and a big part of that is the QB. The team plays better when they feel like the QB can keep them in the game or even put the team on his back.

All these people continuing to give JG chance after chance after chance chance, are ignoring how his own teammates view his production.

So if Maurer can come in, show confidence AND football competence from the QB spot, then you absolutely play him! Maurer is MUCH more aware in the pocket. He feels pressure. It's just about learning the offense and then getting a chance to show it!

But this isn't 1985...people need to not be so quick to think True Freshman can't play QB right away...QBs are far more advanced these days.

If maurer or Shrout either one does good in practice and doen't start, look for a quick transfer. I have always thought JG looked like he was playing scared from the start. Even Mcbride looked calmer and smoother when he was in the game. There are some players who look good in practice but can never carry it over to the game. I look at points scored as the main stat. And I do agree it is a team sport but the qb makes a lot of difference in the offense. I hope one of other players beat him out as starter in practice and starts from the first game. JG is reached his limit; and u will have 3 or 4 years with either of the other ones. And if JG doesn't start he will transfer.

Lol, I agree with you on this for sure. Anyone who can't see how JG got the stats, very short passes and sometimes the receiver makes a good move and gains more yardage thus making JG stats look good. On the few long ones he did complete, our receivers just got a 50 50 ball. Very rarely did he hit a receiver in stride on downfield passes. Most were underthrown.

Thank you. You have restored my faith in humanity. I honestly don’t understand why this alludes so many on this board.

Dooley’s Classes averaged 13th in the country.

Butch Jones’ classes averaged 13th in the country.

Pruitt, with his first full class, now sits at 12th or 13th in the country.

Some of Butch's clases were not as good as it seemed to be. Like one year he signed 30 which makes your rankings go up, doesn't mean you got better players. The average point total of class is a more accurate rating, Average star rating per class; and recruiting to your strengths and the position you need recruited. Which in Butch's offensive scheme he needed a mobile qb, which he did not recruit. I think Pruitt has done an outstanding job in recruiting to the positions we need. We should be greatly improved on Ol soon.

If his own teammates are so concerned about his production, maybe they should worry about blocking somebody and not getting pushed back 4 yards OR blown by, creating separation in the secondary, chipping the Blitzing corner before getting into the open flat. Did I leave anyone out? If his team mates can say they are doing their job 95% then maybe they can lose faith in his ability. Right now our Off Linemen have burning forearms in the 4th Q from helping their QB off the ground. The only thing JG did have on his back consistently was defense players some of it his own doing but a lot not so much.

I am 99.9% confident that CJP will play the best QB whether its Maurer, Shrout or JG. I am curious if playing Keller in the games that he played in ( mop up or when JG got dinged) was because of a respect for him as a Grad transfer and not because he was better than Shrout. I guess we will know in spring.

The obsession over rankings.....

You would think if any fan base were over recruiting rankings, it would be Tennessee fans.

Above all else, it's the coaching.

Are there guys out there like an Eric Berry where it would not have mattered if the coach was Fulmer, Dooley, Kiffin, Jones, or Pruitt? Yes, there are.

But, by and large, there are a lot of guys on a roster who will never play on Sunday. What do you do with them? What do you do with the guys who will play on Sunday (Hello, Alvin Kamara).

But, clearly, "rankings" don't matter if you lose 3 in a row to Vandy. Either, the rankings were dead wrong and you've got a lot of people who can't play.

OR

You have a coach so pathetic that's he's going out and putting a superior team on the field and still getting manhandled.

OR

Both.

I'm done with rankings. You're going to get guys. Other teams are going to get their guys. Now, what?

I'm always surprised that any person acts surprised Tennessee recruits at a high level. Every coach who ever coaches here recruits at a high level. Dooley was the worst recruiter in NCAA history and still signed top 25 classes. I can understand Michigan fans maybe not knowing that, but UT fans are acting surprised by it.
That's what happens when the entire fan base convinces itself we lost to Vandy because they have more talented players.

THIS ALL DAY. It's like we've learned nothing.

Maurer? 12 iirc. Shrout had same issue. Nobody taking the spot unless they make MASSIVE strides.

Do we know how many attempts they had passing, what kind of players were on the team. All this matters, If he had several more passing attempts he would also throw more interceptions. I don't know the answer to any of these. I could probably find out, but I don't know. And also the number of downfield long passes they attempted.
