Current playoff picture

Ohio St will be ahead of us. They have two wins against top 10 teams (PSU and Indiana) a close road loss at #1 and then a close loss at home to a bad team but the committee will dismiss that since it's a rivalry. UT has a win over Bama and two road losses, one of which is against a team about on par with Michigan. OSU resume is better. My bet is regardless of what happens in conference championship games we will be the 9 and play at Ohio St. I wonder though if any OSU players will get suspended for what happened after their game (I'm guessing no as the Big10 won't want to hurt one of their own).

You can go ahead and eliminate Miami from your list. And the SEC Champ will be no worse than the 2 seed. Georgia is already ranked 2 spots ahead of SMU and will remain that way this week. If Oregon loses and Texas wins then Texas will be the 1 seed and Penn State will be the 2 seed. Also, we can’t be certain Boise wins the MW. UNLV is perfectly capable of winning. If that happens then the Big 12 champion will be the 4 seed and UNLV will be the 12 seed. There’s still so many things that can happen.

One thing that is much clearer is the teams that will at worst be hosting in the first round no matter what happens this week:

Oregon
Texas
Penn State
Notre Dame
Georgia
Tennessee

Other teams that are locks for the CFP:

ACC Champs
Mountain West Champs
Big 12 Champs
Ohio State
Indiana

The only really crazy thing that could happen is if Clemson wins the ACC and they decide to make SMU the last team in and keep Alabama/South Carolina out. SMU will be ranked 7th heading into champ week and we have no idea how they are going to treat the runner ups. They may not punish them as much as the regular season due to having to play the extra game. So someone like SMU could lose and still be in as the 11 or 12 seed.
It’s far from a given that Tennessee is a lock to host a first round game.

As much as I hate OSU their resume is way better than ours
lol it’s not way better

Our SOS is about damn even, they have 2 losses, we have 2 losses but they have a loss at home as 20 point favorites.

Yes they have 2 wins over top 10 teams who are extremely overrated and will be knocked out of the playoffs early. Penn state and Indiana wouldn’t finish in the top 5 in the SEC

But somebody on Volquest laid out game by game rankings for us and them and the resumes are almost identical

They are talking about alabama getting in over south Carolina because of the head to head but that didn't matter at all when bama was ahead of Tennessee.

I don’t see either of those teams getting in as long as Clemson wins next week.

The committee will follow their guidelines reasonably well, unless it’s a coin flip or reasonably close call. In that scenario, the big brands with the most eyeballs in major markets will get the nod. It is not a given that the choice will be a tight one between OSU and us, but it’s bad news if it is.

The committee, led by the Michigan AD, will protect the Big 10 as they have done the entire time. Ohio State will be above us.....

IU has a better chance jumping us than we do jumping OSU...

Their wins are better than ours. If we had non conference wins over Indiana and Penn State you wouldn’t say they are overrated.

Georgia will drop at least 1 spot if they get beat
If Georgia drops, so should Penn State.

I want that number 6 or 7 seed. Let us play a home game then get Texas/ Georgia. I want to play these guys at a neutral site while our defense is deep.

Everyone sitting around here talking about a home game. I’d rather sit 6/11 to get the 3 seed in the quarterfinal. That’s the more important part of this equation. Hosting to then go to Oregon would be far less ideal than playing in the 6/11 and getting ACC champ.

Well we wouldn’t go to Oregon but play Oregon in the rose bowl

We would not go to Oregon.... in the second round. There are no home games after the first round clown!

You are right. What I meant by go to Oregon is that that would be the next matchup instead of a much easier path as the 6/11. But thanks for pointing out that I’m a clown!

I’d rather take my chances with some Big Ten teams that have never seen us and the tempo we play with vs any of the SEC teams that have experience against us.

As bad as it pains me, we have to hope TX wins the SEC and hope Oregon puts a 50 burger on Penn St.

Not to get off topic but got thinking about how Tennessee won the National Championship the first year of the BCS and now have a chance to win it the first year of the 12 team playoff.

I don't believe they "ranked the conferences" as you stated. They place the 4 highest ranked conference champs in the top 4, bye positions. Clemson will drop so even if they win the ACC they may be below Arizona State in ranking and therefore would be seeded just like the at large bids (although guaranteed to be in)
If they didn’t rank conferences , then why would they not have more B12 teams projected? They’ve been pretty consistent with how they feel B12 is the top conference , followed by SEC

It’s not just the head-to-head. Bama has better metrics across the board, and the win over Georgia carries a lot of weight.
