Right on cue my friend, right on cue. Options Raisel, puts in Gregg again when it matters in the 8th and right off he gives up a 2 run homer. Then he decides to bring Cingrani in to put out the fire, but now the game is on the line at 3-2.

The gift that keeps on giving. Good luck with the fishing. With my golf game kicking in I am losing interest in this circus.

I've started following the Reds again this year after nearly 20 years of not watching baseball. Looks like I picked a bad year.

Yes - they are more than likely going to be sellers in July unless something totally unexpected happens and they get hot and/or lucky. Weak on pitching, inconsistent offense, lousy manager, and a GM that is slow to non-responsive.

Pete Rose hired by Fox Sports to provide pre and post game MLB commentary. Bold move by Fox. Hope they have their legal staff ready because Pete will say just about anything. lol.

Billy is OK. Mesoraco is another story. Hip impingement, much of the time, is a fancy term for a hip socket deformity. Osteoarthritis sets up because the ball does not move smoothly in the socket. Really crappy thing for a catcher to have. So he missed much of ST and now has missed 7 games with no telling how many more to go. He should have already been on the DL and may go the route Votto went last season if it is bad enough. Stinks to be a Reds fan now.

IMO you got overly excited about a great start. Any of those first 4 games could have easily gone the other direction based on one play or AB. Let the season play out. But as always, we can agree to disagree and still be Reds fans wanting the best for our guys.

On Frazier - he has to be patient because the bases are loaded and a walk brings in the winning run. He's the #3 hitter now. It's a defensive AB. An an example, there is no way Votto would have handled the AB the way Frazier did. Frazier did it the way Bruce would have. The pitcher has already shown in the game and throughout his career he walks guys frequently. He was in a tough spot and Todd let him out. It's OK - it happens. None of us are perfect.

I keep hoping that Price will learn from his mistakes, but him continuing to make roster composition and usage mistakes is sort of a basic requirement for a manager. We can agree and disagree on sending runners, H&R, bunting, d-shifts/placements, etc. But not knowing you have dead wood on the roster and then using same in critical situations - ridiculous. Another example was sending Iglesias back down to get him more experience as a starter when half the pen is useless. Raisel has never been anything but a reliever in Cuba. They decided that he should be a starter for whatever reason - knowing he was not ready to be one. He gives them a few really good innings in his one start then runs out of gas. So time for him to go when Homer comes back instead of making him the one thing they don't have - a long reliever. Now this is the same club that just saw in the previous season the tremendous value of having a long reliever that can one day start if needed - Alfredo Simon. Raisel is not fresh out of HS or college. The Cuban league would be at minimum AAA quality for the top players/teams. there is no way he can be worse than Gregg or Badenhop - he actually has good talent and an active fastball. Whatever - just another in a long list 25 years removed from the last WS championship.
Nah, just enjoying it while I could. Despite wanting to see them do really well I knew/know we'd have to catch lightning in a bottle to compete for the division.

I understand why you think that way w/ the Frazier AB, but I disagree in this case.

I completely agree with your last paragraph.

I have mostly only been able to keep up with the scores recently; although I got to watch last night's game. Leake was a little off in the 1st, then grooved 1 against Jay in the 8th that led to the winning run. Other than that I thought he was very good.

I hadn't heard about Mes, that really sucks.

I'll have to read the article you posted about the Royals, don't have time right now.

Not that I've ever disagreed with you guys on Price and Jock, but it's glaringly obvious at this point they need to go.

Nice win tonight, badly needed. Votto & DeSlafani rolling.

On another note, smh @ Price...

Reds manager Bryan Price says 'F' word 77 times in rant at media - CBSSports.com

Agree on the win. Just wish they could win without HR's more often. They may have something with DeSclafani.

That rant was all time embarrassing. Wonder what his kids or grandkids, if he has any, thought of it? It embarrasses me as a Reds fan. Sometimes the players rally behind the old skipper when stuff like that happens though. Not my idea of the face of management, but will see.

Just want you to know I have complete respect for you as a Reds fan and poster on here. If I ever came across to you any other way, I apologize. We all have opinions that are just as valid as the next guy. Love your enthusiasm for our guys. The ones I aim at on occasion are those that are only trolling and sowing seeds of discontent, typically fans of other clubs. The Ignore button works well with them when they are not quoted in other posts.

FWIW, I soured somewhat on stats approaches when stats failed to account for juicing and with important changes made in the game's rules. The DH is a big one. in recent years there is more inter-league play when the DH is used or not used depending on location. Yet, NL clubs do not build rosters taking the DH into account. So even the scheduling of which team plays another impacts stats. Lowering the mound is a big one with more of that on the horizon. The new ballparks changed the meaning of them as they are tailored to what the organization wants to achieve on the field as well as for the fans. As new parks come on line or renovations made to old ones the results are influenced. There are many smaller ones such as replays, strike zone interpretations, pace of play, etc. These all contribute to distorted stats when based on historical interpretation with little to no understanding of the impact the changes will make going forward. So I stay with macro, observe the actual players on the field, understand the methodology of the clubs, etc. All of that can change each season along with managers, coaches, GM, etc. Which is another reason why Champy I are on the same page. I go into more detail than him as a way to vent without holding it in too long and exploding like Price with 77 F-bombs. :)

I don't care if they win with HRs, single after single or bunts, as long as they're scoring and winning. I love HRs though.

Price did apologize for the tirade, but stood behind the content of his message. I can't say I disagree with him but at the same time the reporter was just doing his job. While it's not pretty, I don't think it's too big a deal.

I catch up with the Reds when I have time; usually just check scores and some highlights. But I've had some time last night and today to see what's going on with Mes. It could be bad, as you mentioned earlier. It could heal up. I can understand why they haven't put him on the DL yet. If he's feeling good after 7-8 days then why make him sit another week and call someone up who more than likely isn't going to contribute?

It's all good man. We're both Vols and Reds fans, so while we may disagree on a few things at the end of the day we're rooting for the same teams. Plus, I've learned not to take message boards very seriously.

I understand why you may feel that way about stats, but yeah, well, that's just like uh...your opinion, man. :)

Still prefer non-HR wins? Last night was crazy. But hopefully our offense can make up for some poor pitching this year.

Very encouraged by the W without HR's. Big win even if it was against the Brew Crew. Both SP's were tough as nails last night. Billy doing exactly what they need him to do by doing a Jenny - get on base and run, Billy (Forrest), run! Cueto has to pitch gems to get a W it seems.

The offense is just out of synch a little. It is better because Votto, Cozart and BP are better. Pena adds a good contact bat to sort of make up for missing Mes - just not the power. Pena handles pitchers better. Mes has the better arm in gunning out steal attempts. However, a hip impingement is a bad thing. It can be career shortening depending on its severity. If Byrd and Bruce start hitting well the offense can be formidable. The D is very good. The spotty starting pitching and middle relief are going to be the sore spots barring injury issues with the position players.

going to crapper reds fans. all I really want to see right now is price and jock fired. they have no idea how to run a team. for Christ sakes send Gregg and badenhop down and bring up contreas and inglesas.

So sad they cannot even recognize the roster pieces they need to use. As you know, champy, I agree on Contreras and Iglesias being there. Don't agree on Gregg and Badenhop - think they need to be gone altogether from the organization. Removes the temptation to actually use them. lol. Just dumb Walter doing his usual acquisitions of has beens and wannabees. Then dumb Price actually using them in critical situations. Then playing Bruce at all. 10% of the season gone and we can now tell he did nothing to improve his approach or swing in the offseason. Whiffmeister status has been maintained.

Our guys are who the major analysts said they were. Not doing anything to dispel the notion of being a lower tier club.

Too bad the Reds can't play all their games against the Brewers.

haha true the brew crew are the only reason we are not In the cellar. just wondering how price is going to blow the game tonight. also bailey gone for the year, there is a surprise.lol. lets throw 11 mil towards a pitcher that is .500 with elbow issues. jock is the greatest.

That's all they ever do, MBRO and champy. Now you've got me going again. They beat up on the junk teams and play under .400 ball against the good teams. Then wonder why they can't win a playoff series in the event they luck into one.

They go big and long on contracts with guys that have a short period of success, but are subject to injuries and being head cases. Votto truly made positive changes in the off season and BP tried. However Votto is one bad slide or muscle strain from being done and BP's age is catching up to him and his swing at the plate. Bruce and Gomer are lost balls in high weeds. Yet kiss one of the very best SPs in MLB good bye with the best closer to possibly follow because the FO left no room for their payroll.

What a mess. And Price fits the mess perfectly.

Still winning almost always with HRs. No HRs - very few wins.
