Da Reds thread

I think they want Senzel back at 2B will move Iglasius and put Glavis at short. Go after Yasmani Grandal to catch, and OF possibilities include; Marcell Ozuna and Nicholas Castellanos

I hope you are right on Senzel. We all seem to see that as the right thing to do, but they keep putting out stories saying he will stay in CF. I don't see how they can even consider it until they see how his surgical shoulder heals. Galvis is acceptable at SS. I like Castellanos.

I can see Gausman and maybe Bowman too. Gausman could be pricey but I liked what I saw from him as a relief pitcher.

I agree. They listed Gausman, Sims and Mahle as on the short list to keep along with potential trades/FA and a Santillan call up. I like Bowman. Some of it will be who fits best into the DJ, Cotham and Driveline pitching philosophies.

Reds picked up the 2020 option on Galvis and traded for Travis Jankowski from the Padres for international cap space.

So much for one our big targets

Was hopeful we could get him, but understand that 4/$73 M is a bit much for the situation. We need an everyday good bat in the OF, hopefully CF, and to ink the solid SS more than another catcher unless it is a FA stand out. Stephenson appears to be the real deal and is on his way up in a couple seasons, so C will probably be OK if Tucker can get his bat working better.

I was starting to think the league banned the Reds from signing FAs but we just got Moustakas on a 4 year deal but no money numbers yet from what I'm seeing. Going to play 2B but I could see him sliding to 1st towards the end of that contract if Votto retires.

Edit: I think I saw its $64 million.

4 years/$64 million being finalized. He also provides a quality back-up at 3B for Geno. I could also see that move to 1B subject to Votto. He's got to love coming to GABP with that pop in his bat.

Big well done to the FO. That's a team improving deal. Looks like Senzel stays in CF for the foreseeable future.

I don't know what the budget is for FA but I still would like them to add Didi, a center fielder/outfielder, a quality bullpen guy, and if there is any money left a catcher.

I think they probably will on the SS. Peraza was just non-tendered. Doubt they plan to stay exclusively with Galvis as a starter at SS when the Blue Jays had moved on from him there. Didi and J-Iggy are still in play. I think they know enough post surgery to stay with Senzel in CF, but are still working on adding in the OF. Jankowski signed a small amount below the arbitration number so they may be looking toward him to fill the utility OF role. So there may be a deal still to be done there. One source showed a potential interest in a trade with Seattle for Narvaez at C. Seattle's shopping him. Because of his bat he would be the #1 and they would keep one of Tucker/Casali for #2. He's just adequate behind the plate, but the bat makes up for it.

Have always loved Moose and LOVE this signing!!! He can play 2B,3B and 1B.....Great job Redlegs!!!

Moooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose!

Tendered contracts to: Bauer, Bowman, Disco, Lorenzen (who was listed as RHP/OF), and Casali and signed Jankowski to a one year deal. Decided not to keep Gausman and Peraza.

Good decisions IMO. Peraza was just OK at everything and a beta personally. Gausman is just another whatever IMO. Do not need.

Reds still in on Wheeler per the "insiders" He has an offer on the table for $100 million/5 years from a team and hopes to sign before the Winter Meetings. It would be nice but man I'm not sure about that price though since it would stop us from upgrading other positions.

We seem to be set on upgrading that rotation, now we're getting in on Madison Bumgarner per Jon Heyman. Bell was with the Giants during MadBum's time there.

MLBTR and Reds site reporting the same - they have their eyes on Bum along with Keuchel, and Ryu. Going for a solid lefty starter. Would prefer Bum. 7/10 full seasons with 200+ IP and sub 4 ERA. I really like the sound of that if he can even come close. He might benefit from having DJ tweak him some to extend his career. Heavily in the hunt for Ozuna also. The FO is still trying to improve the roster, so that is encouraging.

Narvaez is going to the Brew Crew to replace Grandal it appears.

Moose will wear #9 and also there is a $20 million ($4 million buyout) 2024 team option on his contract. $12 the first year, $14 million in the 2nd, $16 in the 3rd, and $18 million in the last year.

What I like is they have 3 solid professionals locked in the IF now. The stress should be off Votto, so we will see if he has anything left in the tank or not. Moose can sub at 1B to keep him fresher. Not sure Galvis is starter quality at SS. Hope they make a move there. Would rather he be the super sub.

There are three moves left to make to give them the best shot at the playoffs. Lefty SP, SS, and OF. They can get by OK without a move at C since Stephenson will be ready in a year or two.

Bowden wants to see them trade Winker, Mahle and India for the Rats' Marte. India is not progressing all that well on the farm. He still has some work ahead of him. Mahle has upside, but is a project just like Winker. Will see.

Another splash signing or two and the season ticket sales will take off like a rocket ship.

I’d trade Winker in a heartbeat and I wouldn’t be upset either parting ways with India since he is blocked at the MLB level for the foreseeable future. I think though the Pirates want catchers and I’m not willing to give away Stephenson as our catcher of the future.

Agree. Stephenson is the real deal and is progressing nicely.

Didi going to the Phillies on a 1/$14 million deal. Looks like he is going to try to prove up his value for a longer term deal in 2021.

Reds made the final cut for Shogo Akiyama of the NPB (Cubs, Rays, Diamondbacks the others) and hopes to sign by Christmas. I believe this would be the first ever Japanese player for the Reds if he signs with us.

Signed lefty Wade Miley to a 2 year/$15 million deal with a club option for 2020 (worth $10 million/$1 million buyout). Really just a meh signing, reunites with Derek Johnson where the two had a decent season in 2018. His first inning splits last year were awful with a 8.04 ERA.

I think DJ knows how to improve that issue and Miley overall. I'm sure he and others reviewed video on him from last year before endorsing. Buys a little time until Mahle is fully ready along with Bauer and Disco being FA's at the end of the season. They need to get SS and other positions addressed now.
