Da Reds thread

14-1. Enjoy it while it lasts is right. They've now scored 46 runs in the first 5 games. That's unprecedented for a Reds team. Even the Big Red Machine never did that. Let's finish up the sweep tomorrow

Reds pounded the ball again today, win 11-4

I like their new approach at the plate. That gives me confidence that this isn't just a mirage, although I realize they won't score 10 runs a game all yr

Maybe they realized finally that its better to try to put balls in play instead of going for either the homer or a strikeout.

I believe that is it. They will claim advanced metrics told them to do it this way. In reality, the best offensive teams in baseball have always done it this way. HR's will come naturally when making solid contact. Hope they keep doing it this way. Takes the pressure off the pitchers feeling they have to be perfect. When the run production slows a bit, the pitchers should be tuned up and ready to go as it gets warmer.

Winker just got robbed of a homer. I don't know how professional sports allows their refs/umps to be that bad.

Outhit the D-backs but got killed in the run column Saturday. Pitching was just bad. Don't look now but Senzel is hitting .400. Was beginning to believe he could not stay on the field for injuries.

Let's see what happens in the series decider today.

Guess they were in a hurry to get home and wasted a good start by Mahle. Cueto was tough. Some really dubious pitch calls by the home plate ump. Off the corner with Cueto - strike. Inside the corner with Mahle - ball. Whatever.

Looks like a .500 club to me so far.

The pen is killing this team's chances to win game after game. Embarrassing. Hoffman gives them 5 IP with only 2 runs. The pen with the exception of Romano gives up 12 more runs. Day before - same deal. Go into the 9th with 3-0 lead and Garrett blows it.

The Cincy suck at work.

I wonder if Bell realizes that his #3 in the lineup best hitter (Votto) is only hitting .225, which is much better than his #4 in the lineup clean up slugger (Suarez) who is only hitting .149.

But maybe that is his goal, to tank the season early. Takes the pressure off that way.

Get another great start from Miley and not even a whimper.

Still having fun? Back to the bottom of the division.

Same ole same ole. Beating a dead horse year after year. This roster does not play well together and there are so many holes in it.

I just do not see how a small market team can compete with the MLB system in place today without heavy investment into the draft and farm. They need the best scouts and developers of talent that money can buy to build from the bottom up to compete IMO. The top FA's will rarely go to a small market club unless they are playing for rings already. Other than an occasional FA signing to fill a pressing need - the money needs to be spent on identifying and getting the young guys ready faster.

I nearly lost it when I saw that Bell had finally batted Senzel in the right spot in the order - lead off. The fastest guy on the team who is a singles/doubles hitter should lead off to set the table. That the rest of the team did next to nothing is not the issue - Senzel was 4 for 4. Liking that they have been giving his work at 2nd base as well. Multi=position players add value.

Gray looked good. Too bad Romano was awful. At times he looks good and then stuff like today happens.

Joey got HR #300 tonight joining Bench and Robinson as the only Reds in the 300 club. Our fan base has a weird love-hate relationship with Votto but man we're going to miss him when he is gone. I've grown up watching him and he is in my top 10 of favorite players. Its going to be a damn shame that he, more than likely, will never see a playoff win during his career.

Weird. Wonder why?

After Senzel goes 4/4 at lead off with a SB, Bell says enough with that noise, you go back to hitting 6th. smh...

Another strange stat. At this moment Castillo and Suarez have the exact same .125 batting average. Geno - uh, bud, that ain't good.

You blaming him or the organization? I put more on the ownership for not doing more to put a winning team around him all these years.

100% agree on org and was just curious of the opinion of others. JV was doing what was best for JV and should because that is all he has control over - his performance. He shows up to work and give his best effort his way every game.

They selected their generational player and face of the franchise. Then they do not build around him and keep it together for more than 5 minutes. Whether you like JV or not at the $25 M price tag for all those years - that was the market when they did it for that type player. Years ago Bob C and Walt stated publicly they expected production more over OBP with JV and got on to him about it in one off season, then proceeded to let him go OBP anyway. That probably extended JV's career. Now that his eye and bat quickness has slowed down so that OBP is tougher, he has gone back to production.

My point is if the org was going to let that happen, they needed to build the team differently. IMO, that is why we find the team where it is today - some 10+ years later with no playoff wins or WS appearances to show for it. Which is a shame for him and us.
