Da Reds thread

Three young, quality SP's present and accounted for going forward.

If what the FO is trying to do works, this team is 3 seasons from being a quality, recurring playoff contender. Just in time for them to sign those three SP's longer term, providing their arms are holding up. JV rolls off the payroll to open some room for signings of proven position players. Still hope they go Buster Posey with Stephenson and slot him for more use at 1B down the road. With that bat he needs in the line-up 140 games.

Is there anything more absurd than hitting JV and Moose at #3 and #4 in the batting order in the middle of a total rebuild at 20 games under .500 entering mid-August? Save them for DH in their last season in 2023 since they will both be taking up roster spots and hitting at the Mendoza Line. If you are going to prep, commit to it fully. This team does nothing even at mid-peer offensively. There is absolutely nothing to lose.

So with all the SS talent we now have in the system am I wrong on wanting to give up on the Jose Barrero experiment or should we still give him more time?

A top 50 prospect that OPS’d .900 in the high minors last year? Interesting.

He struck out 40% of his ABs in Louisville this year and 56% so far in Cincy. Yikes. He struck out 30% in 2020 and 2021, so his strikeout rate is going up. In parts of 3 seasons with Cincy he has 4 walks in 55 games and 64 Ks.

Votto having season ending shoulder surgery. I just wonder if this is going to be it for him or will he try to come back next year?

He says he will come back and Bell said they will welcome him back. He's got one year left on the contract plus the option year.

At his age, I cannot see him doing all that well after this. Maybe it he can hit, go DH to take some wear and tear off of him

Damage greater than expected with JV's surgery. It included his bicep as well. If it were me, I would tell him to prepare for a return mid-season next year. Give him the best opportunity to recover and go out on a high note.

Time to dump Moose this offseason. It just has not worked out. Clear the decks of the dead wood and finish the youth movement and rebuild.

Spencer Steer had a pretty good MLB debut: a HR, a double, 2 runs scored, and 2 BBs.

Yes - that was promising. Keep an eye on this one.

The tryouts have been revealing. The offseason should be interesting. Time to commit to out with the old, in with the new.

It's time to cut loose Senzel. Hate it with his Vol roots, but that guy cannot get it together or stay healthy. Maybe he can figure it out and be healthier somewhere else.

When your team is in the bottom third in every stat category that matters you are a fan of a bottom feeder. The off season decisions and moves will determine my future fandom after growing up in the area and being one for over 60 years. I no longer care at all. I wanted to keep the family connection going, but do not have the heart for it anymore. Thanks, Bob.

Yeah I don't think he's a very good ball player even when he's healthy. He's 27 years old. He's played 273 games and he's a career .240 hitter. OBP is only .303. He averages 12 HR per 162 games. That and the injuries - I agree with you - time to move on

So I guess the fans were not the cause of the team losing 100 games, right Bob? It's bad when the fans know more about the game than the owners.

But the below is encouraging. It's a step in the right direction subject to who and how they rebuild the staff and operations.

Reds part ways with 5 members of coaching staff

It is past time to stop talking about winning and start winning by doing the right things in the org first.

Most important to me was the firing of the player development and health head along with restructuring the medical side. They suck at it. Despite the rah-rah promotion of him in the press as a great medical director, Kremcheck has been a major problem. In general, guys don't heal well and he is the primary reason IMO. Too many follow-up surgeries for the botched ones along with slow healing and recovery times compared to other orgs.

I will leave the moving of ST to AZ from FL as another major mistake for another day.

I agree. They have totally botched his development. See medical and player development comments above. He is a natural at 3B, who they immediately converted to 2B like India is now, and they then converted to CF. Whatever talent he had, he could not make up for it. He's had all kinds of inner ear issues for several years, which can lead to other injuries. There are probably nutritional and conditioning issues as is evident with their firing people in that area.

If you can't fix him for peak performance, make a deal or let him leave for give him a shot somewhere else.

The inner ear thing I know well because my wife was diagnosed with Ménière's Disease 30 years ago. There are advanced chiropractic things that can be done to help. In her case she recently agreed to try as it was becoming totally debilitating. Voila - almost immediate relief. Her Eustachian Tube was being pinched by her spinal atlas (neck) being badly offset and out of alignment. Even a car ride was a horrible experience for her. We left the chiro's office after one treatment and drive home - no problems at all. We are both in programs now and have a grandson who's had an incredible response to it. He could not dribble a basketball one time or ride a bike as an 8 year old. Now he plays the game full speed, rides the bike everywhere and is on full go at all times.

Traditional medicine plus alternatives. They are not mutually exclusive. Just like analytics versus old school. They should not be mutually exclusive.

"Losing is not acceptable," he said. "We’re in a competition business. Our goal is to win games on that field and that’s what we’re here to do."

I don't believe you, Nick.
