Da Reds thread

Call up Elly, CES, Abbott and let's go! Haven't been excited about our future in a long time given the talent we have in the pipeline right now:

1B - CES (23)
2B - India (26)
3B - Steer (?) (25)
SS - McLain (23)
C - Stephenson (26)
LF - Friedl (27)
CF - Senzel (28)
RF - Fraley (28)
DH - Elly (21)

Greene (23)
Ashcraft (25)
Lodolo (25)
Abbott (24)
Diaz (26)

Plus we'll have Votto's contract coming off the books this year (Not sure we pick up his option? Would he want one final healthy goodbye tour next year?). Just need to find someone to take the 5th starter role and some bullpen arms.

Sometimes it is as simple as looking at a few key stats to know where you are and what you need.

Middle of the pack in primary hitting stats relating to Runs, BA, OBP, etc.
27th in team ERA
9th in FP

Translates into 6 games under . 500 with nearly one third of the season gone.

Team hitting is doing OK and probably is on the upswing. Team fielding is in a good spot - a lot of versatility. Intangibles are in a good spot - no quit in the team.

It's pitching. Even better hitting will take them to .500 or so. But to get over the hump is all be about the pitching.

Even though it’s just his second week in MLB, Reds shortstop Matt McLain already looks like one of the team’s most talented players.

On a four-hit day, McLain made his biggest impact in the game with his baserunning. Cubs starting pitcher Drew Smyly made a perfect pickoff move to first base, leaving McLain no choice but to sprint to second.

McLain beat the throw to second to pick up an extra base, and then he advanced to third base when Smyly tried to pick him off again but instead threw the ball into the outfield. McLain’s baserunning sparked the go-ahead rally in the fifth inning. Defensively, he also made a nice charging play on a groundout to end the sixth inning when the Cubs had the bases loaded.

Reds keep momentum rolling with sweep over the Chicago Cubs

Reds now 3.0 games out of first and playing exciting ball. 4 Straight games of 8+ runs. First time since 1987 they've done that

WTH is wrong with goofball Bell's mind? He's had time to grow a baseball brain by now.

Reinforcements who can pitch to the pen, please. Get rid of the wannabes before you blow this thing.

I really don’t know why he pulled Lively last night. He was sitting on 87 pitches could have at least finished the 6th, probably started the 7th.

Exactly. Then he leaves wannabes in to get rocked. It's past brain fart stage. That is just stupid.

5 game winning streak and 3 games out of first place (2.5 out of the wildcard) the young Redlegs are showing some fight.

The organization is in its best spot in a long, long time. I'd say this is comparable to the mid 1980s when Pete managed them to a bunch of 2nd place finishes and the minors were producing the likes of Barry Larkin, Paul O'Neill, Eric Davis, Kal Daniels and Chris Sabo

Folks who gave up on this team due to ownership or whatever are missing out on a lot of fun right now

We all know as a fan base that the Reds told us that THIS year was a "who's going to be here in '24 when we try to contend for the extended future". We was told that by everyone, multiple times for those that attended Redsfest. That sounded good and fine before this season because we expected to struggle this season............but, those plans should change RIGHT NOW! This team can contend and WIN this very balanced and up for grabs Central division. Guys like Fridel, India, Fraley (early) and Senzel have been awesome this season for the most part. We still have the "Big 3" pitchers who honestly haven't performed like we thought they would or are capable of yet.....It started with bringing up McLain finally and he's already got a NLPOTW award. This isn't a WS winning season but we can win the division THIS year! NOW is the time to go for it! Bring up CES, De La Cruz and Abbott and let's show the fanbase we are serious about competing.

Ownership still sucks. We finally lucked into getting decent prospects in return for our major league stars at the deadline.

He's progressing. Definitely been an unlucky pitcher so far this year but he does need to get more pitch efficient. Needs better command but that often times comes with experience

The players, the fight, upside from the farm, etc. - all look to deliver well for the future. I have not been a big fan of ownership in the past for many good reasons. However, they have continued to seek excellence in player development in the minors and have been willing to make changes as needed to get it done, which is providing benefits. That is the only way to deliver winning with smaller market teams. The next step is to win NOW. They have got to get over the arb clock mentality. You don't need to spend forever developing. Get them reasonably ready and send them up, see how they do. Quality collegiate players are stocking the shelves more and more in the minors.

They have to remove the options/variables Bell has to screw up, which is primarily with pitchers. He is still a weak link with in-game managing IMO.
