Da Reds thread

CES probably done for the season - ligament surgery on tap.

Wonder if Krall makes a move before the deadline? Marte back at the end of the month. Would hate to miss out on a play off run with the good pitching this season.

Lodolo - again.

Bats need to heat up. Pitching has been too good to languish a little below .500 like this.

Nearing the halfway point and this team is easy to analyze. Pitching, which has improved significantly, is being burned up again due to anemic hitting. Team BA is .225 - #27. An increase of .25 (to #9/#10) adds over a half run per game. That is a lot and changes the W/L column significantly as well as the use of the staff. If they are going to make a run this season, this has to be addressed.

Edited out frustration. Just need to hit.

Marte being back paid big dividends at the plate and in the field last night. Time to go on a run with some good hitting.

I realize I am a bit old school, but I cannot imagine any scenario where I drafted, signed FA's and played as starters any players who at this point were hitting below the Mendoza Line. Yet, here we are. It is absolutely the difference between winning more games than you lose when you have reasonably good pitching like this team has.

Cap tip to Abbott - again.

I was really miffed when they pulled Greene on Saturday vs. Detroit.

Really hope .500 is reachable by the ASB.

Burns. Well, we know him. He has talent if they can get in his head and finishing developing his curve and change-up. Fastball and slider are ready.

Would rather have Cags or Condon. Oh well.

I think I saw earlier Abbott went on 60-day IL.

4-5 pitchers had a 2-hitter goin until Buck Farmer gave up a dinger to Busch.

Not sure why EDLC didn't play tonight.

Always good to beat the Cubs.

Montas gone to the Brew Crew for a couple of wannabes in Junis and Wiemer. When you trade with the division leader it means you are probably throwing in the towel unless you are going after a big bat, which is not likely. Shedding payroll - again.

I'm ready for a complete overhaul get rid of the Castellinis, Krall, David Bell, everyone so damn tired of seeing this franchise struggle.

Same here. Rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic year after year. Just my take below...

Train in the climate you play in so the bodies stays adapted and you have less injuries. If you want to adapt to summer heat in Cincy you spring train in FL. Even the cooler windy days with humidity in the winter in FL come closer to cool windy days in spring in Cincy. Low humidity and heat of the cactus leagues do not provide the same environment as half of the season in Cincy plus much of the rest of the MidWest and Northeast during the season.

All of the guys you sign should be able to take advantage of the ball park you play in. Our own Vols proved that over years. GABP is a hitters park. Staff your roster and coaches around it like the Vols did at LNS. Staff your pitching with ground ball inducing types. Bulk up on strong hitters who play adequate D. Your two strong D guys should be SS and CF - they can be singles hitters. The rest need to be able to drive the ball. The objective is to outscore from hitting while holding the opponents adequately. If a guy cannot hit or is projected not to hit better than .250 BA with some power - stay away. That includes bench players. But if you get guys who can do that well and are durable - sign them long term.

They drafted nothing like that in recent years. So they will have to trade to get it. Not holding my breath.
