Da'Shawn Hand arrested for DUI

Guess you have never been personally affected by someone who has been involved with a DUI or DWI....it's terrible and sucks still feeling it today

Dude was sleeping in a parking lot, try to make an exception to the D in driving in DUI.

It's a bull**** charge in the first place IMO

I wouldn't go that far. I understand why the law is what it is.

The cops certainly could have given him a warning and made him call an uber. But they weren't required to do so.

Like I said before, Hand made a good decision but executed it poorly.

so someone just placed a 290lb guy in the drivers seat with the keys in the ignition and car running? yeh right. This is about FSU and nothing else. Period. If you played GA State in the opener hes getting suspended.

Yeah, cooking the charge is so much easier than calling a cab for him.

It is, very easy. I get you baised opinion. I work in that world, know how it works. If you think what is being broadcast is what actually happened you are fooling yourself. And im not saying cooking the charge is easier than calling the cab, im saying there is a reason a cab wasnt called at the time.

Expound on that. Give us the benefit of your expertise.

How did dude get there? Was that where he parked after leaving somewhere chitfaced?

The lights were on and engine running. Volfaninbama can correct me if I'm wrong with his profession but I'm pretty sure whether the car is running or not the keys just have to be in the ignition to get a DUI or DWI.

It's a stupid law. Sleeping while drunk in your car isn't close to driving under the influence. Actually it increases the probability that people will actually drive while under the influence.

Most officers know when someone is trying to do the right thing and will likewise let them off the hook in a case like Hands. You could expect this attitude to be multipled when its in a college town and the cops are likely huge fans of the team.
In a situation like this, there is usually some other circumstance that leads to the arrest. Thats my guess of what happened here. And we all know Saban has major influence on things that happen there. So it wouldnt be too far fetched that the higher ups took this over and ensure Hand is playing against FSU.

The law isnt actually sleeping in your vehicle. The is that you have actual physical control of the vehicle.

The keys can be in your pocket and the same charges apply.

I don't think anyone is disputing whether he should get a DUI or not.

What people are talking about (at least me) is was he driving drunk and then parked on the side of the road passed out in the drivers seat?

Or did he get ****faced, realize he shouldn't drive home, go out and sit in the car, and try sleep it off?

Surely those 2 things should not be punished at the same level (football wise, not legally)

Im following you more now. I'm going to guess a search of the car and yadda yadda yadda they take him to jail. Then the yadda yadda yadda never gets told and we basically have a guy that was drinking that just went to sleep in his car.
