Dave Hart knows what he's doing?

Siap.. But, the talking heads today was breathing Jimbo Fisher into my ears. If this happens I'm out! This HAS to be a home run hire, not a shot in the ribs to get on first! Gruden or bust.

How many times do we have to explain that he has a losing record, his best accomplishment is beating lousy competition for two winning seasons at Temple in five years. His record at Miami is the worst for a head coach there in three decades, etc...only to be met by "Is there any real reason some of you dont want Al Golden or is it just because you think it's the popular notion to not want Al Golden?" Can you people not read? Is this some special kind of selective stupidity? And yet you have the audacity to refer to others as "morons?" What is wrong with you?

2006, 2007, 2008, 2010 Miami was 7-5 or worse. Al Golden was not the coach at Miami during this time period. He's the worse coach there in 3 decades? The numbers say NO. Golden has had 2 head coaching jobs noone else wanted. I love how people discount the 23 wins at Temple like that is nothing. "It was at Temple". All he can di is play the schedule in front of him. The coaches before him at Temple going 1-11, 2-9, and 0-11 were playing the same type of schedule. Improvement his teams show is the key here. That is something we did not show under Dooley. Calling Golden Dooley 2.0 just means your not paying attention and have Gruden fever.

Hart should know that the stakes are high. I'm actually relieved that this coaching search is not playing out like the train wrecks we have experienced in the past.

I hate to say this, but Jimbo Fisher wouldn't leave FSU to come here. Why would he? With the talent that he has recruited in recent years, and that's available in Florida. He would be crazy.

Hey i would like for Franklin to be UT coach. He get's alot out of his team. I think he is a good coach. If he can recruit to Vandy. He would better at UT.

Would it be unwise to believe that a big reason
Vandy was on the rise is because the vols were on the decline?

When the vols rise, will Vandy not decline? Alabama, LSU etc....?

The funny thing is Al Golden could possibly have taken this team and won 9-10 games this year. Who knows? When your looking for a football coach, the rockstar hire is not always the way to go. Winning is more important than hiring who the fans want.

There is nothing funny about it. Al Golden is a mirror of Dooley. He is a loser would never win 10 games in the Sec. He can't even do it in the Acc what would make you think he could come here and do it?

Although I would prefer Gruden, I would be all for him coming to TN. He can recruit, and wins.

You need someone to get this fan base excited. .

Nope. That's exactly what Hart is rightfully not trying to do. The main thing is to bring in a winner (proven, hopefully) who will build the program, win games, and stay for the long haul. If the new coach loses, the 'excitement' you felt in the winter or 2012-2013 will be a non-issue.

You are absolutely right about this. The rock star would start with a flash, but what will he do in the daily grind demanded for a college coach with 18 year olds, practice and recruiting limitations, dealing with the Cheek and Martin idiots and fans after a couple of losses. BTW, I hope we do better than Golden.

I can tell you what he would do. He would fill our roster with five star recruits, something that we havent had even one of. He would bring us back to prominence. and if then he leaves we can rely more on talent and reputation where another good coach could walk right in and take over. So, why do I keep hearing what will we do in the long run. If we get a bad coach, we suck forever. With a homerun, we get recruits and back in the game, if and when he leaves we can address that issue then and would be in much better shape to do so

Lol you mean the train wrecks where every 3rd day you hear of a new coach turning us down? Those are always fun.

The expertise for hiring great football coaches at Tennessee is just not there. I know the person, who hired Kiffin and Dooley is not there now. I'd like to think that it will be different this time. Unfortunately, the more misinformation that is being put out there, the more doubtful I am becoming about this being a homerun hire.

Sadly, you and I are thinking just alike. I fear our future more now than I am excited about it.

Better go back and check the facts about your statement.

I get it that some of these coaches out there may be good coaches but the fact remains if we don't get someone in here with a name attached to coaching wins, recruits, elite recruits are still going to go to looks else where until we start proving we can play with the big boys... Hate it but we are at the cross roads of the program and hart and company know it.....

Finally, a good, rational post from you.

Please list the coaches you think could make Temple, yes, Temple competitive like Golden did.

Here are the facts. Golden was a failure at Temple, wher he did not win a championship. We are talking Temple who plays high school level competition. By what measure are you declaring Golden a success, its certainly not his W-L record. Here is another fact, if he isn't a winner in the ACC, he WILL NOT be a winner in the SEC. He sucks and if he is hired, Knoxville will riot!
BTW we are not talking about Temple. He boosted a 26-30 record at Temple. So, do you consider him the man we want here. This is Tennessee and we play in the most elite division in college football. So, comparing a coach that had a losing record at Temple to succeeding in the SEC is a no brainer.

He had two winning seasons at Temple. In five years. Against terrible competition. There are so so many coaches out there with more impressive accomplishments.

His work at Miami has been utterly unimpressive. His high water mark of 7 wins this season was the same level that got Randy Shannon fired. His winning percentage has been lower than any Miami HC going back to the pre-Jimmy Johnson years. Sure there is the looming possibility of NCAA sanctions, but that's a really flimsy excuse. Especially when you consider what Bill O'Brien has done at Penn State, a program that did get hammered, this season. Just the possibility of getting hammered is a silly excuse for mediocrity.

yes and his two winning seasons were a 7 win season and a 9 win season. This after five years of losing seasons. Why would any UT fan even look in his direction

Temple won 3 games total in 3 years before Golden got there. He won 23 games in 4 years. I get he did not win a national title there. The turn around is a massive accomplishment. He took a job I doubt anyone wanted and did a great job. His Miami team shows alot of improvement from last year to this year. I have no doubt he will have them with 9-10 wins next year if he is still in Miami. (Unless the NCAA really drops the hammer on them).

Wrong, it was five years where he was able to have one 7 win season and a 9 win season. Now, that is unacceptable here! Hope he stays with Miami also he had a 1-11 a four win season and a 5 win season. so you do the math=loser

I feel like half this board is either a bunch of 16 year old kids, or likes to act like 16 year old kids... Is there any real reason some of you dont want Al Golden or is it just because you think it's the popular notion to not want Al Golden?

I mean he's obviously not my first choice either... But if you think he's a terrible choice, you're a moron.

Then I am a moron.

No, he had a 9 win season and an 8 win season after having 3 losing seasons. He was at Temple for 5 seasons total.

A UT fan would look in his direction because his teams showed ALOT of improvement. He took a bottom feeder and made it a winner. Most see that as a coach doing the right things. His Miami team has shown improvement. Another sign of a good coach. To compare, Dooley took a crappy team and it was crappy when he left. Golden has not done that. He took over a trainwreck(3-29) and won 17 games his last 2 years there.

2009

Temple

9–4
