David Climer Speaks a Truth

These are the same players that almost lost to Troy last year and lost to Vandy badly. Two different staffs with similar results. What's the common variable? The players.
You my friend have hit the Nail on the HEAD! I feel bad for the seniors, they have been thru much more than we probably know off the field not just on. I will be glad when this Saturday is over! I wish everyone of those guys well and hope they are successful in what they choose to do..... But I'm glad it is almost done. Bring on this new class! These guys have not fought with any consistency in any season. The reason I think we are not that far off is USC is not down.... We won GA not down had them beat... Lost by only 7 to both of them last year. The MOST DANGEROUS Athletes are well coached and HIGHLY MOTIVATED! True to form we were not well coached for three of the four years and never motivated for those three years either! I think we were better coached this year and as it looked Saturday night... Playboy bunnies couldn't motivate these seniors. So lets see how well CBJ does with what's left and the guys coming in. GO VOLS

If Payton retires next year, bring him in as OC

He would never do it because he understands how impatient this fan base really is.

You guys would be ready to fire him after a tough season.

I judged Dooley in year three. With his recruiting so far, CBJ deserves at least this much. Also, this team has not just laid down in games either most of the time.

I still have questions about how some things have been done. Mainly, not running the play clock down more against Vandy. But, when you are on a guy listed as your 4th QB and a true frost at that. Well, you have to understand how much your hands are tied and what you can or can not do. If anyone on this staff is fired after this year then you would just see this team sink more.

Give these guys a chance to sink or swim. Atleast enough time that someone else would even consider coming here.

Defend CBJ or don't. But, just shut up and watch the process and make a judgement on it with more time than one year.

Some of the football and business knowledge of some of you guys make me question if you are not as stupid as the Bammers, Dores, Gators, and Cocks.

OneManGang, I thoroughly enjoy your analyses which are invariably replete with analogies drawn from military history. However, David Climer contributes absolutely nothing worthwhile to discussion of Tennessee football. His talking points could be excerpted almost verbatim from threads on the Football Forum. Although I am not privy to a DNA report which would provide incontrovertible evidence, I am strongly inclined to believe that he was the product of mutations between three taxa: Periplaneta americana, the American cockroach (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockroach); those members of the family Scarabaeidae (scarab beetles) which are colloquially known as dung beetles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dung_beetle); and Forelius and Iridomyrmex, which are the two genera of piss ants (Pissant - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia). As for journalistic training, he may or may not have attended LSU, but he definitely subscribes to the John Adams school of pseudo-journalism, which is predicated upon the incessant use of sarcasm as his exclusive literary weapon of choice, accompanied by cliché piled on top of cliché.

Go Big Orange!!! Those three little words certainly will never appear in any article penned by Climer.

Yeah bad players will make any OC or DC look pathetic. Try again.

If BJ came in and went 6-6 or 7-5 you would be praising him for the great job he did with Dooleys players and how he coached them up. But since he is either going 5-7 or 4-8 now he had nothing to work with. So you try again. Keep believing Jancek and Bajakian are the answer.

As teams not named Bama seem to do, they win a game they probably shouldn't have (USCjr) and they lose a game they shouldn't have (Vandy). UT wasn't very competitive with Bama because pretty much no one without Manziel at QB has been. The Mizzou and Auburn games were played with a true freshman playing at QB not to mention the Vandy game. We also lost our only true deep threat at WR in the 1st quarter. To succeed against Bama, Mizzou or Auburn, Dobbs needed help. He didn't get much from his defense, offensive line or special teams.

I'm not so sure next year will be a look into the future because we are losing a bunch of experience this year on OL and DL despite how you may feel about their talent. I think 2015 will be the year we can look to see where the program is headed.

O line and D line weak links this year, need new blood.

http://www.tennessean.com/article/2...28/Climer-Butch-Jones-right-coach-right-place

The decline of Tennessee football from excellence to mediocrity to near irrelevance has been going on for most of a decade. There is/was no way in hell Head Vol Butch Jones was going to be able to fix it in one year.

Climer is right, Next year is going to look a lot like this year. This isn't Philip Fulmer stepping up to be Head Vol in 1992 with a team loaded with talent he could build on and win big games doing so. This is John Majors arriving in 1977 to find that there were teams in the KIL with more - and better - D-1 talent than Tennessee boasted at the time. Combine that with the fact that Majors was able to operate largely free from recruiting restrictions and what you have is a multi-season process to rebuild the program.

I wrote this in 2003 and easily could have just re-posted it in 2008 or 2012:

If Head Vol Jones can get UT competitive in anything less than five years he should be named Coach of the Decade.

5 years would be the outside max he gets to win an SECCG
Like it or not

Don't enlighten them.

Also, last year's team had way more offensive talent. Hunter, Pattrrson, Bray, Rivera. People have their head in the sand if they don't understand our situation this year.

This year's team was left with the fewest offensive playmakers I can remember us having.

It will take at least 3 years from now "team 117 -120" to make the climb from bottom dweller to being competitive in the SEC. Even if we recruit well the players need time to mature and become competitive in the toughest conference in the nation. I think a good comparison is when CS took over at South Carolina. JMHO

:whistling:

Look at it from the other side. In the UGA game, UT allowed them to drive 75 yards in under 2 minutes with MASH unit on offense.

In the Vandy game, UT needed 1 yard to get a 1st down and couldn't do it. After that, Vandy drove 92 yards down the field.

You can choose to focus on those 2 plays, but the games were lost elsewhere.

Amen, Boca Vol. This why I was so upset during the game and why I have been so critical for days afterwards. There were a multitude of problems across every aspect of each unit fielded during that game. You could tell by the type of play in the first quarter that nearly the entire team was on the ropes (including coaches). I am not bashing - I'm just stating why I was so upset, and why my confidence was truly shaken so deeply for the first time.

Most folks around me were equally upset, and we all became much more vocal about it as the game went on. I sincerely hope the entire coaching staff has taken away some real hard lessons about what it takes to get it done in the SEC, even though a hand full of them have already been here before. Go Vols.
