Well at least you found something you liked about it. Correct me if I'm wrong but they don't let interacial couples date at BYU do they?

The religion or school has no judgement on Interracial couples just same sex couples.

I can see both sides. Did BYU make full disclosure of the rules and consequences? Who knows? If I were him, I would be calling a lawyer

Trust me. Anyone who goes to BYU is fully aware of the rules and consequences if violated. The school is very open about what is expected and what is tollorated. They aren't hiding and hoping someone will screw up. Not their MO.

Im sure BYU isn't sloppy with their paper work. But I'm not buying that Jake Heaps and his 84 teammates are all virgins

Oh ok, well back home at my old high school one of the coaches was of the Mormon faith and he told me that it wasn't encouraged. But that was almost 10 years ago lol.

You are wrong. I took out Asians, Hispanics, and 1 black girl and I didn't get in trouble. Actually one Asian girl I dated a little bit ended up being Miss Utah, if I can toot my own horn.

Another interesting tidbit: the black girl I took out appears on this website all the time in an ad. She has short hair and is wearing her graduation outfit. I saw it and got up the courage* to ask her if it was her and she confirmed it.

*I was scared of her thinking I think all black people look alike.

I'm surprised by how many folks on here, and the pundits on tv that have defended BYU today, and even commended them on sticking to their "code."

I find it frightening that so many people around the country have said it is "refreshing" to see a school following an archaic moral code that has no relevance in modern society.

The only defense being used is that "he knew the rules when he decided to go there." This does not take into account two things: 1) he was adopted at a very young age by an LDS family and likely had no choice but to have the LDS church shoved down his throat his entire life and again no choice but to attend to the LDS flap ship university and 2) that this rule is so outdated and unrealistic, yet many both on here and around the country don't question it, rather they follow it blindly. This goes against everything that an education should encourage, values like self determinism and encouraging scholars to question everything, even deep seeded traditions.

Finally, I wonder if this result and the perception of the dismissal from the team would be the same if the player was white.

I guess they were unaware that this poor kid was forced into taking a basketball scholarship and enrolling at BYU.

It's not against the BYU honor code to have sex. It's against the BYU honor code to have pre-marital sex. Did you ever wonder why so many BYU students are married? :pepper:

I didn't think you could top the sheer lunacy of your claims of anti-semitism toward Pearl. I underestimated you.

I disagree with Hat, I think you had some good points. You did kind of blow those out of the water when you inferred there is a racial motive here though.

He didn't want to follow their rules and they didn't want him in their church. Sounds like a mutual separation to me.

I don't necessarily endorse the racial motive in this instance myself, but I think it is a curious question.

However, the other parts of my post are hardly lunacy.

Exactly what fraud has been perpetrated on the students at BYU?

Player: "Hey coach, I am a bit confused about this honor code, could you explain it to me a little"
Coach: "Dont worry about it Son, I guarantee I will take care of you. You are special, just sign on the line"

We have no idea if that converstation took place, if it did, then I would be lawyering up. If it didnt then it's his bed and he has to lie in it.

I am more annoyed by the inconsistency that is going on in the NCAA right now. Also I want to watch the best compete at the highest level, not bench warmers.

If he is Mormon, he'll also most likely be excommunicated from their church too. A girl I worked with got prego at 17 with her boyfriend and the church kicked her out even though her entire family is Mormon. She cannot attend any weddings, etc anymore. Talk about forgiveness.
