DC Black Hawk vs Plane crash, Philly Crash. Malicious, or incompotence?

That alone isn't DEI. An institution actively seeking students who meet the standard but come from a low income house, or are a minority is not the DEI being discussed. Setting different standards so a low income or minority student can be accepted is.

I don't agree and that's the problem when discussing DEI, it means different things to different people. If Vance got into Yale over more qualified candidates because of his income/regional status, how is that any different from an African American who gets in due to racial/income status over a white kid with better credentials? The picking and choosing of what constitutes DEI in this thread seems to be based on "vibes" rather than consistent internal logic.

How is what you said any different than my post? Seeking out people of certain income levels or minorities that meet the standards while technically is DEI its isn't what is being argued over. I don't think trying to diversify a student body or employee pool that way is harmful or controversial. Admitting/hiring people who do not meet the standard because of their income or minority status is what's being discussed and harms an organization.

If Vance was admitted to college with lower grades/test scores than what is the standard because he came from a low income family then yes that is the same DEI BS being discussed.

Black Hawk helicopter co-pilot was Woman who was being evaluated at time of DC plane crash: Live updates

The co-pilot of the Black Hawk that crashed into a passenger plane in DC , killing everyone on board in both aircraft, was a woman who was being evaluated.

The female pilot has not been named but Fox News reported it was a woman with 500 hours of flying of experience, which is considered a 'normal' amount.

Both the instructor pilot in charge, identified as Chief Warrant Office 2 Andrew Eaves, and the female co-pilot were being evaluated during the flight and were familiar with the route. The third person in the chopper, the crew chief, was named as Ryan O'Hara.

You atta boy someone who failed their job that played a role in killing people? Pete’s mad because he got called out for incompetence. Truth to power would be coming forward in saying that he didn’t properly staff. Easier to blame Trump though and hope nobody notices.
This is not on Pete. This ATC staffing issue dates back to COVID. There were **** ups galore by the government and ATCI training facilities due to short-sightedness regarding the resurgence of air travel. Yes, the impacts of this were felt under his watch, but this is a much bigger issue than Pete. They've been working to get people trained and posted, but it's apparently a lengthy process. I get and agree more should be done, but do we want to speed through controllers not fully trained?

Covid has been over for a few years now. Pete’s department under Pete’s watch.

Disagree on that. It’s been confirmed the ATC was doing the job of two. All parties involved share.
Yes, they were short staffed. But there is zero evidence their actions contributed. That's the exact same thing as saying Trump and Musk share responsibility due to FAA roles they gutted last week.

Yes, but I'm saying we lost a ton of ATC roles and pipeline candidates due to the pandemic, and have been playing catch-up since. These apparently are not positions you can train quickly. There were ample **** ups, and I'm cool putting some of the blame on Pete. But this wasn't his fault. It was pilot error. And even if it was a controller error it wouldn't have been on Pete alone. Much bigger issue.

FAA Embroiled In Lawsuit Alleging It Turned Away 1,000 Applicants Based On Race — that contributed to staffing woes

The Federal Aviation Administration is fighting a class-action lawsuit alleging it denied 1,000 would-be air traffic controllers jobs because of diversity hiring targets — as it was revealed that staffing levels were “not normal” at the time of this week’s deadly midair collision.

Complaints about the FAA’s hiring policies resurfaced after the American Airlines passenger plane and a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Washington, DC, on Wednesday, killing 67 people in the country’s deadliest aviation disaster in almost a quarter-century.

Details of the litigation re-emerged, too, as Andrew Brigida, the lead plaintiff in the suit filed in 2015, suggested the federal aviation agency’s obsession with diversity hiring and inclusion had only ensured that an accident was likely to happen.

The FAA has faced scrutiny over its hiring policies after it was revealed that staffing levels were “not normal” at the time of this week’s deadly midair collision in Washington, DC.

The crux of the lawsuit is that the FAA, under the Obama administration, dropped a skill-based system for hiring controllers and replaced it with a “biographical assessment” in an alleged bid to boost the number of minority job applicants.

Why did they write an article about this lol, "it was a woman who is still unnamed"

She was being evaluated which is always a constant in aviation periodically for every pilot. The evaluator bears responsibility here, if not more so. He is there as a backstop should the pilot being evaluated start to deviate from standard procedures or flight path to where the flight becomes unsafe. In other words, the insurance policy.

I don't even understand why ATC is being brought up at this point, all sources I've seen are saying the same thing- they did what they were supposed to and this was pilot error from the army. Trump's mouth got ahead of him again.
Clearly there’s a lot to figure out, but this is exactly the crap Trump does. He gets policy right in a lot of cases but he can’t resist the urge to react in real time and have all the answers.

So, my neighbor's (Trump supporter) grandson was hired as a controller under Pete's tenure. And he's a straight white male, so there's that. He's a really good kid, too.

This. Timing is everything. It was not the time to bring up any failures.

Self inflicted wound.

About to fly on an American Airlines regional airline back through DCA. It’s already delayed. Wondering if ops are back to normal there.

So Trump was right again..........

A New York Times report saying the air control tower at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport has been understaffed for years came amid a lawsuit claiming the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) discriminated against air traffic controller applicants based on their race.

The Times report said the tower at the airport was nearly a third below targeted staff levels, with 19 fully certified controllers as of September 2023, citing the most recent Air Traffic Controller Workforce Plan, an annual report to Congress that contains target and actual staffing levels.

Evaluted for what?

My first thought when looking at that video is that it was a kamikaze mission. Suicidal. Intentional

I don't think this was an air traffic control issue. It appears to be pilot error of some sort

Pretending a lawsuit is fact doesn't make him "right," I wish people could still actually think

It's been understaffed for over a decade, including declining the entirety of Trump's first term.
