It will be solid but there's not a guy that you're confident in just taking over the room once JPJ leaves. Also need to be in the attack mindset with it being Nico's last year
Will need to add a d tackle or 2 over edge IMO. Especially considering you can’t really count on freshmen tackles to be effective. Edge is in great hands as is, and that’s not counting who we may pull this cycle.

Maybe unless herring, Ross, or Joseph’s breakout similar to Pearce not to mention Bradley who was a 4/5 star talent with elite length… I would like a portal edge but it may not be a necessity gotta see how the season plays out.
I think Joseph’s really good. Ross will be very good as well. Just stuck behind a future 1st round pick.

You have at least Moi and a junior Daevin Hobbs starting there. At edge it's maybe Tyre West and maybe Joshua Josephs. Both will have to be more consistent before I consider them being a star pass rusher and even then our two end spots are completely different positions. The potential of the edge room is through the roof but you only get that year with Nico still and the other edge rushers just haven't showed it YET. That doesn't mean they will but everyone expecting them just to make a JPJ type jump bc they have a lot of potential is stretching it IMO. JPJ leaped into a #1 pick candidate

They don’t have to make that level of jump but with heup development has been off the charts at every position… it’s the culture set them working with crg and this entire DL they may not be number 1 picks but they can be really really good… Joseph’s flashed before when they were freshmen I have confidence in that room but I wouldn’t mind a big Time portal rusher ever I just don’t think it’s a need and I think it’s hard to do because of the young talent that we have…

That’s where we disagree. I think we do need someone to be a real big time star off the edge. You only get so many players like Nico at QB in your career as a coach and you have to capitalize on that. The secondary and linebacker units have the chance to be pretty good as well if they can find consistency at safety

We have Jake Merkilnger after Nico.
Then of course George McIntyre in there as well.

Ross hasn't even had his freshman season yet.
Herring just had his playing behind Pearce and Joseph. Then you'll have a SR Joseph looking to earn some money!

No Edge is going to transfer to TN with those guys on the roster imo.

Tyre West is not an EDGE. He’s a SDE.

Between Ross, Josephs, and Herring, the LEO position is set in 2025. At SDE, Weathersby, West, and Gentle probably have it set. It’s DT where we’ll need portal help, to provide more depth.

And that’s not even accounting for guys like Bradley (Leo), Lindstrom (likely SDE), or Robinson (DT/SDE)

You have me sold, interior is where we need high quality bodies from portal.

Good discussion

With all due respect to Jake and George but they are not Nico

Yeah I meant end. But getting a star LEO would have more impact imo

But you’re assuming we don’t already have a star LEO, or 2.
I’m assuming we’re going to be going into that year with us having Nico for only one more year which makes me want to capitalize in a loaded SEC.

the whole DL as a whole is going to be unproven but talented but getting a big time edge rusher will help the whole unit significantly. Shoot even Michigan did it to capitalize last year with Josaiah Stewart and they already had a great DL.

What I’m saying is it’s best to evaluate those needs after this year. We may very well have 2 big time edge rushers already on the roster and it may be obvious after this year. If not, then they can decide what to place a priority on in the portal after they see what we have this year.

Not that it’s ever a bad idea to add a great edge rusher, just that it may not be the need you think it is right now.

I don't think it's a need necessarily but it could be one of a few moves to go from good to great which should always be the goal as we build towards a championship imo

so do you consider the 865 alive event a success ?
I mean yeah. It did what it was supposed to do. Excited for OV season. June will be really fun with a ton of visitors

It was good to get Nic Moore, Donovan Starr, and Onis K on campus among realistic targets and then obviously David but he’s been here
