Debt Limit Bottom Line

i agree with gsvol. <shudder>

I knew you would see the light someday! :)

BTW, gold is set to break the $1,600 hurdle soon,
perhaps today but who could have known Obama
could be such a wrecking ball to the American
economy?? :loco:

if we actually default it would be cataclysmic. no chance in hell it happens. even obama isn't that dumb. he CAN sign a 30 day delay btw, so don't think he wont be blamed if they actually do have a technical default.

So....it's a game of chicken right now to see who will cave first?

Yeah. I think I remember him braggin that he pays less income tax than his secretary does.

he actually means he pays a lower %. i bet his secretary makes six figures too. it's his argument as to why taxes should be higher. yet he specifically does things to minimize his tax bill. things taht non billionares with concetrated stock positions can't do. it's an absurd argument.

Might as well put this out there also, I guess it couldn't hurt..Dagong is likely to downgrade US rating | Business | chinadaily.com.cn "If the debt limit is raised and the public debt continues to grow, it will further damage the US' debt-paying ability, which is a key factor in Dagong's evaluation, and we will consider lowering its ratings accordingly," said Guan Jianzhong, chairman and CEO of Dagong.

Ouch..

PRESIDENT OBAMA: “The last thing you want to do is to raise taxes in the middle of a recession because that would just suck up — take more demand out of the economy and put businesses in a further hole.” (NBC, 8/5/09)

I couldn't agree more Mr. President. Something must have changed huh?

Didn't the recession technically end*? I am sure that'd be his justification.

*High unemployment doesn't necessarily mean recession.

I actually am startng to feel sorry for Boehner. Its clear he would give up a bit of increase in taxes in exchange for meaningful cuts and entitlement reform. But he's on tv now and is just left with the standard lines about taxes sucking because its all the TP wing can understand. Its not his constituency, but the mainstream GOP is terrified of the unyielding TPers.

He's just totally stuck in the middle.

Boehner: "Dealing with the White House is like dealing with jello. I'm not going to engage in partisan sniping."

Wow.
