Deion Intro Speech

It's only cringy for two reasons. One, in today's world folks don't get told the truth. Two, his color makes you feel cringy. I loved it. I love when kids and people are told the truth. They suck, he's not keeping the majority of that team anyways. He is being upfront and telling them that on day one.
Lol… yeah OK let’s go straight to accusations if racism….

Most of the people saying it was horrible are taking it out of context (focusing on the 'enter the portal' comment). In context, all he's saying if you're not willing to play hard and he can't count on you, hit the portal. Which isn't that radical of a statement. I think the overall speech was actually good.

Say what you want about Deion, but he’s a smart guy, very high football and baseball IQ and the guy gave 100% when he played the games. He’s going to expect that level of effort and commitment to being the best from his team. I get what he’s telling these guys at Colorado.

You can twist it that way if you want. Or you can review the entire posts I made regarding the topic. I always expect some folks to insist on making a pretzel out of a donut.

Asking a question is twisting? 😂

Just seeking clarification on your comments.

I went back and read your posts regarding the topic, and admittedly I’ve never been to Boulder.

Therefore I’m curious as to what makes Boulder more susceptible for male student athletes getting caught up with curious females looking for a good time, relative to other college towns.

Ain't gonna be no hoodies, ain't gonna be no earrings, ain't gonna be no caps....while he's donning a cap.
I'm pretty sure Deion loves him some bling

He for sure did back in his day. No doubt about it. I’ve just always liked Deion, mostly because I was a Braves and Falcons fan. Fun to watch.

That part of the speech was good. The non-stop "I'm coming" was cringe, as was the "no hats in meetings" quote while wearing a hat.

Deion is a showman. Always has been, always will be to an extent. He definitely made an entrance. 2Pac walk up music for example, wearing Coach Prime stuff on the sideline, he’s going to be himself, but I’m wondering how much of that he’s going to need to tone down? I have no problem w/ him being real w/ his team, I do have a problem w/ him telling those guys his son is the quarterback. That can’t sit well.

Agree on that.

The crazy thing is this is not the first time it's happened at Colorado. Dan Hawkins also recruited his son, Cody, to play QB at Colorado when he was hired; and it didn't go very well. You can say "he's got to earn it" but everyone knows that a father-coach is going to be biased. It's always a bad situation.

I don’t know anything about the recruiting details of Deion’s son or how good he is now, but he’s gonna be playing P5 ball now and that’s no joke. We joke about the PAC12, but they were probably the 3rd best conference this season, could’ve been the second as top heavy as the B1G is. That’s a big leap. Deion didn’t do his son any favors in the locker room .

Prime as CU coach may be an epic failure. But those of you who have issues with that introduction are challenged to separate your feelings of the man (character) from the message. I have never been a part of a new coach coming in to a room full of college athletes. But I heard conviction, branding, expectations, and authenticity.

Now this I agree with.

I heard Deion say he’s bringing his QB with him, but it would have been nice if he also said “…and he’s got to earn his meal just like everyone else”.

I loved everything he said. He is not going to accept mediocrity and if you aren’t going to be all-in then why should you have a spot on the team anyways? If you bring it every single day then he will fight for you. If you aren’t then he has no need for you and he will find someone who will. Self-accountability is something that is lacking in today’s world and I’m glad there are still people like him to reinforce it. That’s the type of coach any player should want to play for.

He did say that, but do you actually believe that if you're a Colorado player?

I remember as a kid playing on sports teams with the father coaching a son, and the son always got preferential treatment, without exception. Maybe it's unavoidable when you're talking about middle school or high school teams and you're relying more on volunteers, but in big-time college football, that relationship rarely goes well.

The exception, I guess, is when it's like a 6th string walk-on / scout-team QB and everyone knows that. Son knows he's not going to win the job and he's just there having fun, helping his father out. But when it's actually a top QB, you know he's going to receive favoritism and it's going to have a negative impact.

I missed him saying the QB he’s bringing would have to earn it. But since you’re saying he did, all of that is on the record, which is good.

Personal accountability is not a one-way street.

Colorado is a school that is obviously not recruiting top talent. To assume that everyone is slacking (some are) is shortsighted. There are probably many others working hard to compete on a level that they don’t have the talent for. That being said, fan of Deion.

Prime Time went to Jackson State to get his start as a College Football Head Coach in my opinion

He definitely did

But his name alone would have allowed him to go somewhere besides there……and garner more than 300k.

now he’s going to Colorado…….maybe the worst stop of this coaching season.

I think Colorado will be a dead end for him and that Colorado will be looking for a new head football coach in December 2026. I think Deion's name and popularity will allow him to rebound from a failure at Colorado but it may be at a HBC or at an FCS school. I think Colorado has become a wasteland like it was from 1978-1984.

You didn't read without bias. I never said Boulder was MORE susceptible for male student athletes getting caught up with curious females looking for a good time, relative to other college towns. Which overtly shows either your bias or lack of reading comprehension. But nevermind. I'll trust the more informed VN'ers to know exactly what I'm talking about, based on the first post where I raised the issue. If you haven't lived it, you are not able to understand what I'm saying. I'm not upset with you. Because I know being explicit about what I'm saying will just blow up the forum. It isn't worth it, and once again, I trust those who know exactly what I mean. I can say one thing, The issue is the depth of trouble they could be in if not careful. Peace out.
