Demarco Cobbs DECOMMITS

Who calls a school? Sounds desperate.

If the coaches aren't allowed to call the recruits, it's pretty common for the recruits to call the coaches. I'm not sure what the recruiting guidelines are at this point in time, but maybe coaches aren't allowed to call recruits yet.

Looks like we definitely moved on from Cobbs...Orgeron certainly knows how to play the game. I liked Cobbs, but the staff obviously knows the situation better than I.

No. The coaches can contact the players starting Sept 1st. They just weren't recruiting Cobbs...

All recruits. These are high school kids from small markets for the most part. They don't have agents or handlers(for the most part). This kid wanted to play for UT, he just went for the wrong one. We will be OK. This is one position we can afford a loss. Maybe this will free up a spot for an extra guy in the trenches.

I don't remember being so indecisive in high school, but I've learned quickly that it's a trait among todays recruits.

Yep. We also likely didn't have coaches blowing up our phones, inboxes, and mailboxes with nonstop pleading requests to attend their school and play football in front of thousands of people.

Here are my thoughts on Cobbs. You may not agree with them, it's jmo:

- We didn't cool on him
- Ambles is a better WR than Cobbs and it's not real close
- Dunkley is higher on UTs offensive board. I think Chris is Gran's #1 target
- We will get at least 1 more WR who will be on the same level, if not better than Cobbs
- Meline has more upside at WR than Cobbs
- He would have been a Safety here, and he might be one at Texas as well. They even told him they didn't know where they were gonna play him...
- I'm not sure we will get a Safety better than Cobbs. I think he was gonna be mean...

I can agree with all of that, but isn't Meline wavering in his commitment as well?

Tclowers, I think many people expected Crompton to never get his head right.
Many people including me expected us to get smoked by Alabama.

Now many of us are hopeful we will finish 8-4. If that happens, we will be the hottest team in the country recruiting wise, with the best recruiting staff in the country. Cobbs will not be the last decommit, and you will show up each time and say "just because they did not call that kid for 3 weeks or send him any letters does not mean they cooled on him"

What are you talking about? He just now committed to Texas. They haven't had time to start recruiting him...

Guess I misunderstood your statement "They just weren't recruiting Cobbs" to mean that Tennessee coaches stopped recruiting him. I guess you meant Texas...

Seems to be the opinion of many around this forum that the staff "cooled' on Cobbs, and that just didn't sound quite right.

Only if UGA gives him a commitable offer which I don't see happening. UGA is his dream school but they don't have room for him. And remember, he committed to UT without ever stepping foot on campus. This weekend will be his first visit here...

that sucks i was looking forward to seeing what he could do, but hopefully this weekend will make up for it, he was one of the top guys we had commited, we still have time maybe we can get back in it. did anybody hear why he switched?

Are you trying to say UT's staff didn't call Cobbs for 3 weeks or send him any letters, because that's how it seems...

If you have evidence of this, I will concede that the staff "cooled" on Cobbs. However, I doubt this is the case.

he is the number one player in a pretty talented state don't see why we would cool on him just cuz he switched doesn't mean we cooled our staff is the best in the country but not every recruit is gonna sign here even though they should

No I was referring to Bruce Irvin. I think we will do the same thing with some of the guys in this current class to make room. I also do not know that all of them will discuss it so openly.

If we lose a Meline or a D Jones it may have nothing to do with the staff cooling and be maybe more about them not wanting to stay.

We also can lose several of these guys to academics.

I just think we will end up with a stellar class and will let some guys know before it is all over that they will get more playing time somewhere else.
