Yes, they absolutely can and lets be honest about it. If the federal government wasn't the behemoth it's become just how well informed would they need to be? Most state legislatures are part time so I don't see why the federal legislature should be any different.

Yeah good point. But I think in terms of net worth he is only worth a few hundred thousand.

Personally I think we should take a billion dollars and build a state of the art dormitory for them when they are in session and make it a requirement that they live there. It doesn't have to be Hess Hall, and it should have the most up to date accoutrements, and be something like three bedroom apartments. All the same too. Nothing special for the more senior members.

But things like that will never happen because they are so important and above you and me.
