Derek Chauvin trial

Chauvin gets 22.5 years, but apparently we're laying the justifying groundwork for riots

If the White male police officers in this country don’t immediately make a career change then I will have no sympathy for the next one that gets served up as a blm sacrificial lamb.

Yep. I bet all those black Democrats in Congress, who in the 1980’s pushed for much harsher sentences for crack cocaine as compared to powder are regretting their decision now.
I doubt it. Politicians (black, white, whatever) will do anything to get re elected and maintain power. It was what was required at the time. No regrets.

I expected about 17 without having spent a single second looking at their sentencing guidelines, but I don’t think 22.5 is crazy long for second degree murder nor is it an unfairly short sentence.

Think about where you were 22 years ago. It’s a long ass time.

Im not sure how much good time reduction he can get. In TN it would be about 3.5 years which still makes it a long sentence relative to the human lifespan.

So you think possessing a drug should be punished more harshly than taking someone's life?

What a ****ed up world view.

Only a moron would believe people are being sentenced the same for just one drug related crime. *By drug related crime I mean just drugs are involved (possession/distribution) and not all the other crimes committed like murder, robbery, etc because of drugs.

I think I heard it was a mandatory 2/3 before parole.

So roughly 16 full years. If he had a newborn baby, they’d be driving before he gets out.

What he did was sickening, but that’s plenty long enough for just about any single criminal episode, in my book. Looking at it relative to other crimes that are probably in other jurisdictions is desensitizing and pushes criminal punishments to be unnecessarily long. Look at it relative to a human life and 16-22 years is a long ass time.

He was be a POS dope head and certainly no hero, but he was still a human and deserving of equal protection under the law.. So yeah, "all of this."
Agree 100%, but I still think Chauvin was overcharged based on the agenda being driven by race and politics. IMO, the case that really deserved the attention, that still hasn't really gotten the full attention it deserves, is the Breonna Taylor case.

If I'm not mistaken, he still faces federal charges.

He does. Operation of federal law will usually make any sentence received by a federal court consecutive to state sentences. Judges can make specific findings and order the BOP to recognize state time but they don’t often do it.
