Derrick Henry...New Car.....Bama shenanigans?

This is no big deal. Just another privileged athlete on campus. As long as people keep buying tickets and advertised products nothing is going to change. The cost of a vehicle is nothing to these athletic programs.

Its completely normal in that it's done here and everywhere else where football is taken seriously.
As someone who has actually worked with a few college and pro athletes, I can tell you it isn't normal.
Athletes are supposed to report what they are driving, and the school is required to do its due diligence to make sure nothing stinks. Heck, I remember some flack over Locke driving a company vehicle from a Neil Sandler dealership over the summer. He was working for the dealer, but they were known to hire UT athletes. I think it was a Taurus and not as if he was rolling in an Escalade. But nontheless, UT nipped in the bud.
I wouldn't say this car is big $$, but certainly outside the means of a college student.

But lets get to the important issue. Clearly this guy is too tall to play RB and is getting moved to TE.

You'd be amazed at the massive amounts of debt some of these players leave college with despite not having to spend a dime on school, room or board. We don't hear about it, because these guys don't matter if they don't make the league.

Also, a student on scholarship is allowed to get student loans (not saying this is the case) but I know it does happen. Those student loans are deferred until said "student athlete" is finished or drops out of school, at that point you must pay them back. I knew kids on scholarship who were getting 20-25K a year to live on and still lived in the dorms and had meal cards.

When I was roaming Knoxville I saw guys all the time who played ball at UT (both hoops and football) driving nice cars (Carl Pickens had a 944) Some guys had 300Z's, Jeep Grand Cherokees....I'm sure a booster hooked them up but its not impossible to do it legally.

What would you like, Cat? I'm completely unconcerned whether anyone wants to accept reality or not. It's not going to affect my day any more than it affects theirs.

If it makes guys like bamacheats feel better to think that every player on UT's team is either driving a beater or pedaling his little sister's bike to the training center, then I'm cool with that. I have absolutely no interest in stalking college students online looking for some kind of "gotcha" that I know full well the NCAA doesn't care about anyway.

A friend of mine was a big time recruit and started at linebacker on the '98 national championship team. Got drafted and played 6 years in the nfl. You know what he drove in college.....a 5 year old Nissan Maxima. Your an idiot. If you were so smart you wouldn't waste everyday of your life on a Tennessee board talking about bama. No one here cares about bama.

I've met him and spoken to him on multiple occassions. Very nice guy. I don't mean to accuse him of anything that I think is unethical or immoral.

But I not only question the suggestion that his words, energy, and passion would sway a kid more than a new car or cash, I find the suggestion completely laughable.

Proof positive Bammer fans are simple minded and it doesn't take much to make them laugh! This Bammer guy is sure in the know about illegal activities in all college athletic programs across this nation. He has enlightened us to the fact the same cheating that goes on in midgetville happens everywhere else, recruits would not be swayed with illegal benefits over the character of a coaching staff, and he talks to CBJ!! What a guy ... All Vol fans should just listen to this wisdom! He sure has sold me!

Wasn't Henry one of the players that had tweeted a comment during last season about having to go hungry because he didn't have enough money to buy food??

So do we know his family is poor or just assuming? Maybe its was a gift from his parents or something?

Go figure, another Dodge. Was it generously donated from the Gadsden dealership as well? Personally, I liked Haha's better:

Interesting take from Pat White, former West Virginia QB. Can't wait to read bamawriter's take on it.

For the record, I don't know if it's his real account. It was on another blog.

I'm not trying to change your mind.

"We're less filthy than they are" rationalizations don't interest me. If Alabama's the dirtiest of a dirty bunch, then I'm 100% okay with that. As long as no one's doing anything illegal, all's fair.

Quoted for posterity.

This is Alabama football.
