DeShawn Mobley

Lets remember, Dooley was basically an idiot when it came to recruiting. I would bet that CBJ would have taken Mobley

Being from the Knoxville area I had heard a lot about Mobley, and I scratched my head on why the old regime took chances on some other guys (that will probably never have significant PT) but good ole Doofus passed on a good running back with good size in Mobley... Yet he was using a walk on in Toney at RB. Makes a lot of sense.

I SMH through the whole process on why Dooley did not look at him seriously. The previous staff told him that if they had a late decommit that they would offer him late.

He was a late bloomer who really worked hard both on and off the field his senior year is why he was overlooked a little. Miss. State was on him early and I think he had a chance to go there.

I have been watching Powell for several years and thought Mobley was an inconsistent player on the field. It was evident that he took plays off. I also heard from students that he was inconsistent as a student also.

I am glad to see him succeed at UK and hope him the best of luck.

Yeah he was so inconsistent he set a state record for rushing and is #2 in TDs. :lolabove:

Yeah I do not get this one his senior year he laid it on the line every game. I remember his blocks on defensive ends that would pancake them when they would fake it to him.

What other SEC teams offered?
Sorry, you lost me when you said he was inconsistent. He was anything but inconsistent. If you want to say his speed was suspect I can buy that. But to say he was inconsistent means you either didn't watch him his senior year or you are a hater. That has to be the dumbest post of the year. :loco:

He had interest from other SEC schools and offers from other D1 schools. What is your point?

He's proved he can play in the SEC the last two games.

I don't follow recruiting closely, but did TN pass on him before or after his off the field issues? I personally think we should have tried to get him.

His off the field issue was his junior year and it was minor Dooley took kids with a much worse history and as far as I know he turned it around and bescome a model player and student after that. Like I said he was a late bloomer and probably got overlooked for that reason but he was right in our back yard and I feel like it is another miss we will regret.

I'm not sure. I know he ran a 4.6 at UT's camp which caused them to somewhat sour on him. But then he turned right around and ran a 4.5 for UK.

Bottom line is Dooley took Q.Watson and D. Borque over him....both didn't make it thru the 1st season and went home. Hell Borque quit after the first practice. Dooley screwed the pooch plain and simple.

This I remember as well. He used to slaughter people when blocking. That led me to believe he was a take. Because if not at RB, switch him to LB.

As I said earlier he played the game fast and had great vision and made quick decisions on the field.

He could easily have been a LB if that is the route he chose to go. I know if he had been given the chance at UT he would have contibuted this year with the talent we have over there now.

I did watch his senior season and his best game was against Henry County in the state title game. That was a great effort to carry his team. But he did not play at that level the entire season and he was inconsistent at PHS. I do not blame UT on letting him go to UK. I wish him the best of luck for 11 games a year. Hope he keeps working hard and makes it to the NFL.

Facts are facts, period. He was a questionable SEC talent.

I agree he was questionable but no more questionable than many of the players Dooley took chances on. Many of those players are not even over there any longer. As far as speed goes, there is laser timed, straight line 40 speed and there is in-pads football speed. Mobley has plenty of football speed to compete in the SEC. Bottom line is Dooley should have taken a chance on Mobley over some of the chances he took with other risky takes. JMO.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one because I never ever questioned his effort and consistency. He brought it every game. I don't see how he could be inconsistent and own the state rushing title but okay. Inconsistent is Darel Middleton.

Yes he had some troubles in high school and Dooley was trying to clean up our program. No reason to revisit that. And he couldn't catch Cody Blanc in high school.

Dooley was trying to clean up the program? The same year he signed a player from Georgia who had been convicted of stealing from UGA's locker room the year before while he was making a visit to their spring game. The claim that Dooley was trying to clean up the program is complete nonsense.

Dooley got some bad info on Dy'shawn and was too lazy to pick up the phone and call the Powell coaches and administration to ask about the incident, which was way overblown in the first place.

That is such bull. Watch the powell/ central games 2011 and 2012. Blanc smoked him and Gage Beeler knocked his lights out. But he is a good player, i will give him that.

Mobley was a freshman at UK in 2012.

In the 2011 game, played at Central, Mobley carried the ball 14 times for 213 yards and 3 TDs, including TD runs of 64 and 56 yards.

Powell won that game 34-0 and Mobley only played midway in to the third quarter.

In that same game Blanc had 13 touches between rush attempt and receptions and netted 11 yards. He was a non factor in the game.

Try again.
