DeShawn Mobley

I have been watching Powell for several years and thought Mobley was an inconsistent player on the field. It was evident that he took plays off. I also heard from students that he was inconsistent as a student also.

I am glad to see him succeed at UK and hope him the best of luck.

Mobley was inconsistent on the field? You weren't watching Powell, then. Dy'shawn never took a play off. You don't average 12.2 yards per carry and gain over 3K yards in a season AND be one of your team's leading tacklers by being inconsistent.

As for his academics, he wasn't a valedictorian type, but be was a full academic qualifier at UK and played as a true freshman.

You said in another post, and I am paraphrasing, that you call it like you see it. I am calling this one like I see it. If you think Mobley was inconsistent on the field then you really don't have a clue. Over 3K yards rushing, 12.3 YPC, 46 touchdowns AND 61 tackles playing part time on defense is anything but inconsistent.

He came to camp and ran a 4.78 40 which is why we decided to look elsewhere.

Please finish the story ........

Mobley came to that camp coming off of a pulled hammie. He told the UT coaches that, but they asked him to run anyway.

That number was completely bogus and the UT coaches knew it from the get go.

Sh*t lets not start a holy war over this.

Not my intention.

Just tired of hearing this kid trashed by idiots who have now clue of reality with this kid. Just because UT didn't offer and he doesn't play for UT doesn't mean he isn't a good football player. In fact he proved just the opposite last night.

I'm happy that UT won the game, and I am happy that Dy'shawn showed himself well both on offense and on special teams.

the kid needed to get away from some of the things he was into here . If he had come to UT he would have stayed in trouble . This was the best for both sides.

Don't disagree with that in principal at all. I felt all along that it would be best for Dy'shawn to get away from Knoxville. Some young men and women just need new surroundings.

I feel the same way about the kid who is currently a sophomore at Powell and a UT verbal. Getting away might be his best chance to make it in life, too.

What is funny is he was and is faster than most of the kids Dooley recruited. I watched him play at least 7 times his senior year and never questioned his effort on the field so I am unsure what the other poster is talkng about.

I went to every game and never saw him take a play off. The other poster is entitled to his opinion even though it is wrong, lol.

Also, if he is so slow why is he the kick off returner??

Basically Drooley took a higher rated and higher risk running back in D Borque from Louisiana. Did Not make through a week of practice until he quit. Mobley ran a bad 40 at a summer UT camp; even though he had ran better for UT coaches and in other camps. No doubt it was a mistake. At the very least a potential contributor is better than the alternative which was nothing.

Here's what I know. Blanc and Mobley are very good players. Blanc had a coaching change before his senior year. Blanc didn't play 2 hames with ankle injury. That coach sucked and was fired after this season. Blanc's records speak for themselves besides his senior year. It would have been nice to have mobley at tenn also.

Tennessee might off as a walk on, but they won't throw a scholarship at him. More than likely Mobley ends up at a place like Troy, South Bama, etc.

I'm totally perplexed by this, but haven't heard from anyone that knows him well yet on the reasons other than what was publicly available (looking for a better fit). This doesn't seem to make sense given his performance the last two games. There must be more to the story.

I think he just wants to be the feature back somewhere. Kentucky has JoJo Kemp and Nebraska transfer Braylon Heard along with incoming 2014 freshmen Stanley Williams and Mikel Horton. He is a very good running back but does not fit the offensive system as well as the other running backs.

That's a good part of it. Those guys you mentioned are Stoops recruits, and they have been brought in with understanding of PT. Dy'shawn was recruited and signed by Joker Phillips and his staff. Stoops tried to strong arm Dy'shawn in to moving to linebacker earlier in the year, which he didn't want to do, which is why Stoops/Brown kept him down the depth chart, trying to force his hand in to moving to LB. Then when George started having off field issues and Kemp some injury issues then Dy'shawn was elevated on the depth chart and produced at running back. From what I have been told, Dy'shawn didn't feel like he got a fair shake at RB because of the guys that Stoops signed and brought in and his between the tackles style of running doesn't fit the wacked out version of the spread that Stoops and Neal Brown run.

It's my understanding that Dy'shawn is looking at his options, and as I said in an earlier post since he hasn't used a redshirt year he can transfer to another D1-A school, use his NCAA required sit out year as a redshirt year, and have two years' eligibility left to play.

This makes sense. I hope he goes to a good team and is successful with his last two years of eligibility. He's a good kid who has worked his butt off.
