I read an interview with Mike Slive and he said that the first time he attended an SEC football game, the fans started chanting SEC, SEC and he knew then that this conference was different. Near the end of their bowl game, Missouri fans began chanting SEC, SEC. After only 2 years they know how important a strong conference is. The better any team in the conference does and the higher rated they are the better a team thats beats them (hopefully Tenn will one day win some SEC games) will look to the pollsters when it comes time for post-season bowls. I cheer for SEC teams ( except Vandy) when playing out of conference teams just because it makes the SEC look stronger. And yes it is hard to stomach sometimes but since I rarely interact with fans of other teams it isn't that big a deal to me. If I were unfortunate enuff to live in another state that might change. I did go to college in B'ham after 3 years at UT and it was interesting to watch the Auburn and Bama fans bicker.
Would you be rootin' for your brother in a scrap? Oh course! They're our SEC brothers. Why would any idiot pull for outsiders against our conference? Must be wanting a weak conference or something.
SEC Pride is the dumbest thing ever. Yankee fans don't cheer for the Red Sox, Packer fans don't cheer for the Bears. They're your rivals for a reason.
It just seems like a pathetic way for the weak fans to be bandwagoners without admitting to themselves that they are bandwagoners, like "Well, my team sucks, but I'm not going to get mad about it, I can just cheer for whichever team in our conference is good in the big games and pretend I'm cheering for the conference, so it doesn't make me a fair weather pile of $#!%."
