If Aidoo could learn to walk and chew gum at the same time he’d make the league. His biggest issue is he can either get position on his man OR be ready to take the inlet pass. He can either box out OR rebound. He can’t seem to figure out how to do both.
He’s a good on ball defender and has a decent shot that should have improved more. Great shot blocker. One of the best passers for a big man. He’s one of those players that just seems to be sitting so close to becoming great, but never quite gets there.
Okpara is a hard worker that makes up for some of his skill deficiency with effort. He’s going to have some nights where his matchup causes some foul trouble but he seems to know the line. Put the lob close and he’ll grab it and dunk it. He knows how to close off his side of the lane for the driver and is rarely out of position. He seems to know he’s not a shooter and doesn’t try to be.
Overall I’d take Okpara for what you see today on the court, but understand why there is excitement about Aidoo. If it ever clicks for him he’s the clear winner. As is, Okpara probably contributes more on any team, but absolutely does on a team with a pass first PG.
