Dilfer's critique of Dobbs, Ferguson and Bray as QB Prospects

Dilfer's words are useless. He was a over rated QB. He sucks at his current job and has no business speculating about any football prospects.

He's a Super Bowl winning QB:

"The problem is that he lacks, he seriously lacks discipline in his game..."

"He gets away with it, often."

"Most of his errors shoe up when the game is on the line?"

I enjoyed watching Bray play, but Dilfer is spot on.

And you know better than him?

Let me guess, if Dilfer said UF and Bama's qbs sucked, you would agree with him?

Take you orange colored glasses off!

Yes and Bray won the Elite 11 QB challenge in 2009 so what does that mean?

:good!:

Bray will make a roster, probably a 2nd round pick. You cannot deny his size and arm. However his head needs to be understood. That's why NFL scouts get paid.

:cray:

Tennesseeduke

If Bray had his head on right then he is a 1st Rounder and most likely first QB selected or at worse second behind Smith. Bray will be a 3rd-5th rounder most likely and could be a steal if he has matured and gotten his head right.

Are we assuming either Dobbs or Ferg will transfer at some point?

You would have to think that one of them will eventually leave. If they get (RS) like we all assume the smart play would be to take off right after their (RS) Freshman season depending on how they feel they sit in terms of the depth chart. That would give them 2 seasons a UT and 2 more to play wherever they end up after sitting out.

What does mature look like?

I really like the future if both decide to stay with us.
It's good to know that a kid like Dobbs understands the game and can retain information at a high rate. Not saying he is going to be Peyton but this guy could learn how to dissect defenses technically.
I also liked what I heard about Ferguson. He has the natural instinctive feel and can make plays happen. Which is good because we haven't had a natural play maker at QB in a long time. Let's just hope he isn't wild (not maturity wise but playing style)

I'll be absolutely stunned if Bray is a second round pick. The only people that I've heard even mention Bray and the second round in the same sentence are posters on Volnation. No analysts have him going that early.

I remember a few weeks prior to Ray Guy being drafted. No one mentioned him being selected in the first round of the NFL draft. No one selects a punter in the first round.

I remember a few weeks prior to Sebanitian Janokawski being selected in the first round of the NFL draft. No one slects a kicker in the first round.

My point is that just because no one is mentioning Bray being a 2nd rounder doesn't mean it won't happen.

My personal opinion is that he will be a 4th rounder and Pittsburgh will draft him to be Ben's back up. Pittsburgh already said that they will draft a q.b. in the middle of late rounds...

Definately!! THere is only one football and both can't play q.b. on the field at the same time.

Ainge won the job and Schafer transferred. Manning won the job and Stewart transferred. Crompton won the job and Coleman transferred.

Get the picture? A Q.B. who knows they are good enough to be a starter at the college level will not stay when they know they will never be the starter. They will go elsewhere.

Now, maybe a player who knows that they are a career backup will stay, such as Nash Nance or Bernie Veazy, or Joey Matthews but really talented q.b.'s won't stick around.

I'm thinking Pittsburgh will take him in the 2nd Rd. I'm no Steelers fan, but I think he'd be a perfect fit. He'll get coached up and when Ben get's hurt, as he often does, then the Steelers can still win with Tyler Bray.

Well you're right, but I think the unique circumstances surrounding the program and our former head coach warrant a different look at Bray than "he didn't get it done in college." That may affect his draft stock considerably, much like 2008 sank Arian foster. We all know how that turned out, and I feel (call it orange tainted glasses if you will) Bray is more than capable enough of being an excellent NFL caliber QB.

Bray was also saddled with the worst defensive coordinator in the history of the game last year. I believe everyone would look more favorably on Bray if we had just had an average defense last year - we win 3 or 4 more games where the offense put up some good numbers and he is viewed in a different light imo.

Dilfer blows. I would think this if I weren't a fan of UT.

I think what Dilfer said in the op's statements are spot on...imo. All the talent in the world but he is inconsistent as hell.

Bray was coached by Chaney. Just saying. And his film does not lie.

Im not a big fan of Dilfer, i understand his oppurtunity to spend time with prospects however...if it came from a more respectful guy like gruden or young, I would sit up in my chair.....not the case.
We allllllll know what bray is capable of doing and not doing.....so we are all trent dilfers..

It will be a good thing for Bray to be drafted later than he thinks. Hopefully it will wake his mind up to where his body has been the last few years. Want him to do well as I do all former players.
