DirecTV and the SEC Network (merged)

We have been through this before, check out this thread.

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/220594-directv-sec-network-merged-13.html

DISH technology is superior in many ways to that of Directv. I know, I did the research before I switched.

The only real advantage to Directv over DISH is the NFL Sunday Ticket which I don't subscribe too, so I'm better off with DISH, but each person has to make his own decision.

Yes we have had the discussion, and it's pretty clear how much of a Dish homer you've become.

Anyone know if its included in certain Direct TV packages or if it will cost extra to add on? Kind of like ESPN gameplan or NFL Sunday ticket

I didn't know if anyone else had mentioned this but The SEC Network will also have an app. So if you're on the go with your smart phone or tablet you can watch the games through the SEC Network app.

Not really, the HD quality of DISH is better in some regards, there is a lot of information in satellite forums to support this, and the experts reviewers at PCMag will support this claim. Just check the previous thread on this topic.

I save 30 per month by switching to DISH, the technology is better, and I get more HD for the money. I can watch my DISH programming from anywhere on my iPad, you can't do that on Directv. I am happy that I switched, I have a superior service, and I am paying less for it.

The icing on the cake is that DISH is a corporate sponsor for UT Athletics. What does Directv support?

Now that DirecTV has SEC Network, ESPN Gameplan, NFL Sunday Ticket, AND gave me $15 off on my bill for a year (which now is cheaper than DISH), DirecTV is better than Dish Network.

DirecTV has better picture, and the only thing they lack on is the DVR, which they are on the heels of Dish. Please, lets not go through this again and make you look silly.

They support the Vols, but there can only be one satellite provider can do that.

You can watch shows on Ipad with Directv. As someone who makes his living as a video compressionist, I know the compression algorithms that Directv uses is better. Again, the lay person may not see it, but pump it thru a $100,000 professional monitor and look at the scopes, you can see it.

As far as price, I bet I get more channels than you do for alot less money. Just have to know which package to get.

I woke up this morning feeling almost dirty about how much I took advantage of Directv yesterday afternoon.

Once they announced I called about 30 minutes later to get signed up for our new house we're closing on in 10 days. I needed 5 boxes total, and obviously insisted on getting the SEC Network.

The sales rep was really nice and she basically said she had learned to love talking to us folks from College Station over the last few weeks. I mentioned she might have a few more calls from our area code now that they've announced and she agreed.

She then proceeded to literally give me anything and everything in regards to extra packages, programming ect that I asked for. By the time I hung up, I had all the crap my wife likes to watch, everything ESPN broadcasts, all of FOX Sports, everything the NFL broadcasts, and a whole lot of soccer, MLS, La Liga, ect..... She gave away 4 genies, and charged me $50 bucks for the 5th one.

In short, if you're not with them yet, ask for the world because they're willing to give it to you.

I'll pay less than $80 for the first year and $109 the second.

Since hd channels have become mainstream it seems like the sd channels picture quality has gotten worse on either of the satellite TV providers. Some of those sd channels are pretty graining looking.

Alot of that also has to do with the fact that SD looks worse on flat screens than tube televisions. But I'm sure they are tightening the band width on the SD channels as well.

Now the next big question for Directv subscribers....getting the SEC Network is great. 90% perfect. Now allow Directv subscribers to sign in to watchESPN app for 100% perfect!

SD channels have not gotten worse. Its just now you realize how bad they were before you got HD.

Also, you were probably watching SD on a much smaller TV back in the day.

Its kind of like playing super Mario Bothers on the NES on a 60 inch HDTV. Its going to look horrid because it was never meant to be!

It will most definitely not be an add on like NFL sunday ticket.

It will most likely be just like the Big 10 network and be included in one or more of the TV packages above the basic package.

Yeah, not sure on where they're going to throw in the SEC Network. I'd assume it would be lumped in with something like Game Plan or maybe another ESPN specified package.

They way I understand it is the "basic' package gets you just a small handful of ESPN stuff ie: espn, and espn news. When you "upgrade" your package to include the U, Deportes, ect, that's where they may put it.

Could be wrong, but she assured me I'll have it, and that's all I really wanted to hear.

Looked through here briefly but can someone tell me exactly what the SEC Digital Network is that I have on my Roku? Will this app carry games throughout the season?

Well, for me, DTV is much better than Dish because it is much cheaper.

And I think the Genie is on par with the "hopper". Personally I don't want for these units to be able to eliminate commercials. That's what keeps TV programming costs down.

Its all just opinion either way. if you were a direct customer you would be saying their receivers are better.

It's just not my opinion it's the opinion of Will Greenwald From PCMAG.

Last year, when we tested Dish Network's Hopper, we were so impressed by its top-notch interface, extensive storage, multiple tuners, and reasonable price that we crowned it our Editors' Choice digital video recorder. This year, Dish Network takes the already-powerful, versatile Hopper and leaves it largely unchanged, with the exception of one key addition: Sling Media place-shifting. It's like having a full-fledged Slingbox built into your satellite set-top box so you can watch TV whenever and wherever you want on a number of additional mobile devices. The Hopper still lacks video streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, but considering that the box is free with a Dish subscription, it's a very small price to pay for all the functionality you do get. It's simply the best DVR available today.

That's an old app run by the SEC's previous web provider, XOS. It is now inactive.

Nope, I'm NOT a DISH salesperson, I'm just glad that I dumped Directv after years of high prices, poor service, and DVR's that never worked properly.

I am excited to tell folks how much better IMHO DISH is than Directv, and when they challenge me on it because it's doesn't fit their view of the world, I like to show them the facts so they can open their mind just a little and consider DISH. Because, I'm a Vol, DISH supports the Vols, therefore, I support DISH knowing that they offer a IMHO a superior service to that of Direvtv and Comcast.

You bring up the hopper every time most people will admit the hopper is better than the genie but when people say DIRECTV's receivers are better their not talking about dvrs their comparing the regular hd receivers which DIRECTV's are better imo.
