Disney: The Most Evil Business In The World

Yep. I am and have been to the parks in summer. But after visiting in cooler months summer seems even more brutal. There's always frozen butter beer, though.
Agreed! I went to Universal a few times inAugust and it was rough. I never go into shops, and we pack lunches, but for those trips we went in every building just for A/C. So the Dec and Feb trips were much more enjoyable. That is the only time we schedule our trips now, but those also used to be less crowded times. (Not anymore)

Also, frozen butter beer is so good. Could just be the nostalgia talking when at the parks. Same thing for the Mickey ice cream bar.

We took the kids and our nephews to Lego Land last July. You know when you sweat so much that the salt your body is expelling is visible on your clothes after they dry in the sun? Yea. Never doing that again. Unless I can be hooked up to an IV.

Disney's economic impact on Florida is MASSIVE. DeSantis, a dime-store bully, has picked the wrong company to fight with. Disney should leave
Florida; that would be the ultimate FU.

Disney knows they’ll be around much longer than Desantis.

No need to screw over 75K employees and their families.

Not as stupid as Desantis leaving FL taxpayers with the bill for this Disney culture war circus.

He’s cutting his own throat.
Disney packing up and leaving Florida would be a dumber move than this, yes. It's not close. One costs billions of dollars as a result of a short term tift where the next governor could reverse it, the other costs DeSantis nothing except individual aspirations.

It would be a dumb move, if Disney ever suggested as much. They haven’t.

You are correct on that. I don't think they are that stupid. Would get sued by shareholders instantly. But that's the point, isn't it? There's a reason it's not on the table from Disney's perspective, only dumb people's perspective. Universal gonna get fat from eating too much popcorn though.

The point is anyone mentioning Disney potentially leaving Florida over our governor’s short term nonsense is dumber than our governor.

Other states are interested, Disney can't move the parks but could definitely shift some operations if they chose to. Sure nothing would come of it, but why not spend $750,000 of North Carolina's taxpayer's funds on exploring it. haha

eta: the $750k figure came from a different article I read about the proposed legislation.

They can expand their parks, sure. They all do it and do it often. See Japan, France, etc. But that doesn't move any needle. They aren't going to give up on the FL parks by not updating or shutting stuff down.

Went to Disney last summer for our daughters graduation trip. Good time had by all…capitalism at its finest. Had a group of young white males behind me in line at Epcot, and someone with a Sedge Hat walked by. One of the boys stated to the group that he wanted one. He was reminded that he could only wear it there as it wasn’t cool to wear it anywhere else. Good time had by all and a reminder that Disney isn’t sympathetic to Asians.

They have thousands of "corporate" employees in FL that could be anywhere (accounting, IT, legal, tax, finance, marketing, etc). That's the lever that Disney has if they need to use it...

Georgia has made a run at some of these operations employees in the past...

They did move a lot of corporate employees out of CA due to business environment/cost. They could do the same here. Georgia and North Carolina are very aggressive in offering incentives and have tried to get a piece of the pie in the past.

ESPN, a Disney entity, already has some operations in NC (although they have cut back on that recently).

I was referring to the parks moving.

Big props to Desantis to expand this bill beyond K-3 to now include K-12.

Disney pays off fired Marvel exec Victoria Alonso after she allegedly refused to censor ‘Pride’ reference in ‘Ant-Man’

Disney has reportedly reached a settlement with an ousted Marvel executive who was abruptly fired last month after she allegedly refused a company request to censor LGBTQ imagery in the “Ant-Man” sequel.

Victoria Alonso, who played a key role in the development of Marvel’s “cinematic universe,” alleged last month in a statement through her attorney that she had been “silenced” by Disney and “terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible.”

Multiple reports had said Alonso was fired for breach of contract after she went outside the company to produce and promote the Oscar-nominated film “Argentina, 1985,” which was made by Disney rival Amazon Studios.

However, the Hollywood Reporter claimed she was canned after tuning out a demand to remove an LGBTQ reference for the Kuwait release of “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
