Do we really need/want to be in the top 4 going into the SEC tournament?

On most years of course we would want to be in the top half so we could get a first round bye. However, do you guys think this year it would be better for us not to get the bye, so that way we could possibly have one more win to add. I know the match ups wouldn't be as favorable, but at this point, it really looks like we need all the chances we can get to get more wins.

Ideally best situation would be for us to win out but be a 6 seed and not get a bye. However, I believe it's mathematically impossible for us to win out an finish any worse than 5th.

We don't want 5 as that's face us with UK early, so at this point our best chance is indeed win out and go for a 3 seed.

So in an odd way it is a win/win and a lose/lose situation. To some extent that is.

Just looked its impossible finish 6th and win out, we could finish 5th but as I stated that'd match us with UK in round 3.

So either way you'd play UK in game 3, but 2 wins as a bye team are against much better rpi teams than 2 wins as a 5 seed.

That is true, having the wins against a better rpi would be a lot better.

So here's the best scenario:
-UT wins out
-Vandy losses to UK
-Bama losses atleast 1 game

Tennessee would be 3rd and get a first round bye.

Obviously the hardest part is us winning out, so let's get it started tonight Vols!!!

GBO!!!

sorry fellas, but i don't think we will win at l s u. this would put us in the nit. that's really where we need to be going, anyway. that tourney would give this team more chances to win a few games and get some valuable experience for next year. just my :twocents:

I'm not saying we do win out or I think we win out, jut presenting the scenario it'd take to be a bubble team, that's all.

In more than happy with a nit berth, but I'd be ecstatic to hear Tennessee on selection Sunday.

I think Vandy will end our hopes honestly..

that would suck.

for everything to fall into place, and be going into that last game just needing to win it.

i hate to sayi it but id rather lose tonight and send the chance out the window than build up the anticipation id have for that game. :shakehead:

I hate to say this, but we have 2 more road games. I know they are against weaker teams, but I have watched this team fold like a losing hand on the road. Even against GA they couldn't buy a field goal or free throw. We have a better chance at home against Vandy than we do on the road with the bottom feeders.

Unless the committee is really that desperate, we aren't getting in as an at-large. You'd want the most favorable draw to win the SEC Tournament, so grabbing a 3 seed would be pretty awesome.

Of course we want a bye, because we do have a chance to win the SEC, but zero chance to win the NCAA. Like Earnhardt said, "the guy that finishes second is just the first loser."

Like already mentioned, at this point, we're shooting to win the tourney. So, we'll take the 3 seed. Also, a first round win against a bottom half of the SEC team is not going to help our resume. It does give us one more chance to choke, though.

I hope not I'm going to that game. It will be my 2nd game ever too. How do you think the crowd will be againist Vandy?

it'll all depend on how the next 3 games play out.

go 0-3 id expect a very weak crowd
go 1-2 it'll be a pretty weak crowd
go 2-1 it'll be a decent showing
go 3-0 that place will be ROCKIN'

As long as we win the games we're supposed to (tonight's game and the game at SC), I think you'll see a pretty good crowd at the Vandy game.

Not that it's going to happen but best scenario is to win out and take what comes.
If you end up winning one game in the tourney your record in your last 10 games would be 8-2.
One of the reasons Bama got boomed last year was because they finished 6-4.
They've already exceeded my expectations for the season and our name on selection Sunday might be a bit too much for an old heart to take.
I'm fine with the NIT.

That's one plus for UT in terms of selection. This year's bubble is so atrocious that I've been reduced to attempting to determine which team is less awful than the other.

Calban, question....

What do you see the potential rpi boost from each of the 4 games being with a W???

TIA

i just wonder why everyone thinks that if ut wins out and ky beats vandy and bama loses another why would ut get 3 seed over vandy.i know they was a tie breaker who had a better division record but divisions are out so anyone no how the vols could get 3 seed.

Because Tennessee would hold the tie breaker. The tie breaker is your record against #1 team in conference, nobody would have beaten UK, so you go to #2 team Florida. Tennessee beat them twice vandy didn't.

So tennessee wins the tie breaker.

I want to be optimistic and say it'll be a good crowd vs our instate rival. It could be raucous should we win out til then. Then again, it could be fairly small compared to years past if we drop a few. I plan on being there, should be a good game regardless of the tournament chances.

Why are you worried what seed we're gonna be. With arguably the best point guard to ever play on our team its gonna be a cakewalk. The national championship is just a formality at this point.
