Dobbs is getting his props in S.F.

Your premise appears to be “getting paid backup money on a good team with a chance to win a superbowl” is better than “getting paid starting money on a weaker team”? Personally, I’d take the starter level pay with an opportunity to play each week over taking less pay to watch from the bench unless someone gets hurt. I would think most competitive athletes would feel the same.
I am being realistic about his situation and how the NFL works

So you’re saying if Dobbs keeps playing well then Arizona should keep him as their starter? Yesterday you said Dobbs wasn’t better than even 25% of NFL QBs? Why would Arizona commit to keeping a QB who’s in the bottom 25% at his position? Your posts are inconsistent at best.
If Arizona isn't in the running for one of the first few picks, what are their options?

Your view of reality appears to exclude Dobbs’ performance so far this season. Your going to be hard pressed to find anyone to agree with you that the level of play Dobbs has produced this year for the Cardinals isn’t better than several starting QBs this season. There has to be more than one NFL team wondering right now why they didn’t get lucky enough to stumble upon a QB like Dobbs - surely the Titans are one of them. If I’m a NFL owner and my GM goes into next season without a competent QB and the GM doesn’t make a pitch to sign Dobbs, then I’d find a new GM. JMO and I don’t claim to be smarter than everyone else.

You tell us as you’re the one saying Dobbs isn’t starting NFL QB material, just a backup at best. Seems like you are continuing to contradict yourself if indeed you believe Dobbs is likely Arizona’s starter next season.

I really wasn't asking you. My point is that if he continues to play well and they win 6-8 games, they may not have a better option going into next season.

dobbs is more than capable of managing an offense. He just needs better support.

Dobbs did play great. He was getting hit all game long and kept getting it out at the last second and throwing dimes. Made some plays with his legs too. He’s really taken advantage of his opportunity
some of those crossing passes he made while was under pressure were accurate. not easy passes to make

Ok. While his history in the NFL has been backup or mostly, third string and inactive, he's all of a sudden a starter. You're not too knowledgeable on the NFL, are you? He's a starter right now because the Cardinals knew he could come in and run their offense competently. I love Dobbs, but I also know his limitations at the top level. If you knew better you wouldn't even think about debating it
Amazing to me that so many Vol fans are so knowledgeable about NFL performance. Other threads bring out the deep seated hatred of professional sports. Money grubbing players, despicable owners, self- centered prima donnas are repeatedly denigrated. Hard to believe that the NFL actually fills stadiums, gets the highest media ratings and is expanding worldwide.

Maybe he's arguing semantics. Is he better or has he out performed or played better than 2/3 of the starters in the league with a lot less talent supporting his efforts and almost no familiarity. I watched Jordan Love the GB starter while back. He reminds me of a Milton with less arm. Still over threw about every pass he threw. Will have a short career as a starter. Several others he's out performed and in my opinion is already better than they will ever be, Tannehill included. I stopped watching the Titans when they signed that choke artist.

I love the NFL. Of course, I'm a die hard Vols fan and will support them above all else. Otherwise, I love the NFL more than I love college ball. The money grubbing comment is hilarious. I know that's how some people feel, but at the same time those same people making such statements don't understand how salaries work in the NFL. It's not the players' fault salaries are so high. Even when you see someone like Brady take less so his team could spend more on OL and defense, he's making up for it with huge incentives that aren't tied to the salary cap. Rodgers did it with the Jets this year

2 - Joshua Dobbs tosses three touchdown passes
The Bengals passing defense looks better than it really is thanks to the fact opponents tend to run against them. Cincinnati’s 123 rushing attempts against is eighth-highest in the league, but that doesn’t mean teams won’t throw on them.

The Bengals touchdown passes against sits at 5.0%, which is also the eighth-highest in the NFL. Arizona Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs has seen quite a respectable amount of success against much better pass defenses like the Cowboys and 49ers - and that was well before garbage time regarding the latter.

Therefore, while Conner racks up the rushing yards, Dobbs will go over the top and toss three touchdown passes. But let’s spice up this bold prediction and state that Dobbs will toss three touchdown passes to three different pass-catchers. It should make for yet another strong outing for one of the NFL’s most surprising quarterbacks.

There you go again taking personal shots without the first damn clue. Yes, right now Dobbs is making the best of a great opportunity. Why don't you find the thread I started on Dobbs after the Cowboy win and read some of it. Is Mike Tomlin incompetent? My goodness, it's a message board. Lighten up. Again sorry, but NFL OCs know more than you. Wow, you're delusional about yourself
As I recall, Dobbs signed with the Browns a day or two before Dwayne Haskins' death. With Haskins gone, Dobbs might have remained a Steeler. Maybe I missed your point?

I would consider giving Dobbs a shot this week as starting QB on my fantasy team, but can't risk it with Herbert and Tagavaiola on my team. Both of them are point machines, especially Herbert. Cardinals can beat the Bengals with Burrow playing hurt

When he got to the Steelers, Big Ben was still there. Dobbs did serve as his backup for one season. Then Dobbs went to Carolina, who had just obtained Darnold from the Jets. They were committed to giving Darnold another try as QB1, so Dobbs sort of got into situations where he was never going to get a shot at being a starter. Speaks volumes about the respect coaches and GMs have given him when he's been signed the last 2 years to come in and start from the get-go, knowing he's had so little PT in his career

Steelers 2017 and 2018
Traded to Jacksonville for 2019.
Cut by Jacksonville.
Re-signed by Pittsburgh for 2020-2021.
Signed with the Browns (as I recall a day or two before Haskins' death)
I don't recall how he went from the Browns to the Titans -- obviously either traded or released and then signed.
Re-signed with the Browns
Traded to Arizona for 2023

Yes, I know his chronology in the NFL. He got cut by Carolina

I think the Browns released him, then the Titans scooped him up to come in and start. They knew he could handle the offense in a quick manner, or a reasonable facsimile of it anyway.
According to the wiki, the Lions signed him after the Browns released him and the Titans claimed him off the Lions' practice squad.

I didn't know as about the Lions until your last post. Damn, he's been around. As I stated earlier, Arizona might be his landing spot. Heck, I started a thread about him after he beat the Cowboys

- lots of journeymen QBs have won a SB. Dilfer is the most famous, but Johnson with the Bucs is another great example. Rich Gannon for years was just a backup, but he kept getting better, and ended up making four Pro Bowls and playing in a SB.
4 Journeyment QB's that played in SB's: Jay Schroeder, Doug Williams, Jeff Rutledge, and Mark Rypien. The common thread: Joe Gibbs. There could be a strong case made that Gibbs was the greatest NFL coach of all time. Has there been another coach to reach the SB with 4 journeymen QB's? 3 of the 4 were SB winners. Belichick's record without Brady is not very good. So, I think Gibbs was the better coach by a wide margin.

Somehow, someway the Steelers got to the Superbowl with Neil O'Donnell at QB. Worst QB ever to make a Superbowl.

I knew then that Bill Cowher was a great coach 😄

I know all about Williams and Rypien - I watched both of them play. Neither Rutledge nor Schroeder ever played in the SB, at least for the Redskins - I just looked it up to make sure I wasn't mis-remembering. Joe Theismann played in two SBs with Gibbs, won one and lost one.
