Dobbs switches to legendary jersey number...

Disagree. Clausen was a slightly above average quarterback that was playing on some tremendously talented teams. I would take Tyler Bray, or Eric Ainge over him.

Gosh, you need some medication to help with those delusions.

Undefeated against Bama. Won 2 at Florida. If he had not followed Manning here he would be perceived as the greatest QB in UT history.

But your attitude, and that of many fans, is a reason for a good QB to look for another school besides UT.

Hopefully prospects will ignore comments from the idiot gallery.

I don't understand why so many people act like Casey Clausen wasn't any good.

He won big games, so if you define greatness by winning yeah he was great. Just know if I could have him versus say Bray or Worsley, I'd take Clausen.

I am sure that without Tee either Burney Veazy or Joey Matthews would have carried us to the National Title in '98 . . .

For some reason I did not care for Clausen initially, but he did help with some big wins and we were in position to play for the NC in 2001 if not for the SEC Championship upset - think mostly it was just the small letdown from how dominant UT was in the 90's - we just got spoiled I think.

Would definitely take Clausen right now.

Best one we've had since Peyton.

I agree with you 110% Casey was a hell of a QB what's funny if you look back at it Casey couldn't beat Georgia and Peyton couldn't beat Florida. Casey was 0-4 & Peyton was 0-4. I guess them teams was our guys antidote.I forgot Ill take one off for Casey because Suggs played georgia there freshman yr. GO VOLS!

Someone please tell me why we're still seriously bashing a 34-10 QB who was 14-1 on the road. Have people been hibernating for the last 6 years or something?

Just the same few who always have negative things to say. I wish, as fans, that we wouldn't berate any of our players. They choose to come to our great university, and I think for the most part that they give it their all-- no one that is competitive at this level enjoys losing. Believe me, they hurt more than any of us and they have a real stake in the game. We just have to listen to all of the rival fans mouth off at us-- but we are all adults, we should be able to take it and hand it right back when we are on the winning side-- which willhappen soon:yes:

OK, I am not bashing Clausen here, but I do have a question...am I the only one who remembers when Clausen was scrambling on a broken play (against either middle or Memphis) and fumbled the ball after he knocked it out of his own arm with his knee?

I clearly remember this happening...

Casey Clausen at UT:

3-1 vs. Alabama
2-1 vs. Florida

UT since Casey Clausen:

2-7 vs. Alabama
1-9 vs. Florida

I would say Clausen was a GREAT Tennessee quarterback. The important stats say the same.

It appeared alot of people disliked Clausen for his cali boy attitude. What i would give for some more of those performances. I would take rick at this point. GBO!

Okay Whew... I'm not alone! I still think about this nightly......and I never forget.......i never forget.

I think it's worth mentioning that in the "Drain the Swamp" victory in 2001, Travis Stephens played the game of his life (226 yards). As a matter of fact, Travis' rushing yards outnumber Casey's passing yards. This is with an incredibly stacked receiving core of Stallworth, Washington, and Witten.

Casey was cool under pressure and he was generally good at taking care of the ball. However, from a talent standpoint he wasn't very accurate and his arm strength was average at best. I'd take Ainge and Martin over him. If we're talking about raw talent, I can only imagine what Bray would've been like with that 2001 receiving lineup, amazing defense, and Stephens to hand it off to.

In his 14-1 road record, only four of those teams were ranked and three of those ranked wins were against sec teams. Yes, he beat Florida twice but he wasn't much of a factor in the first win. I remember his OT victories over unranked Arkansas, Alabama, and South Carolina teams. I also remember wondering why we were struggling so much to put away those teams in regulation. Casey had his clutch moments but this "iceman" thing has gotten ridiculous.

Clausen was a winner. Bray, not so much.

Tyler is clearly more physically gifted, but you see where that got you.
