Dobbs tries out for baseball

Something to consider for people saying he should only play football, when you were 21 years old, did anyone tell you that you should stick to bagging groceries instead of branching out on a new endeavour? Several people on FoodCityNation thought you should.

Oh my

So Dobbs, the QB, is being compared to 21 year old joe blow bagging groceries

Per PG Dobbs wasn't very well thought of at all as a baseball player. 1star maybe 2star at most for the stat watchers

A football teams needs it's QB/leader in offseason workouts and other offseason activities. That's very important

Much more important than a walk on or less talent wasting time at that ballpark

If Butch is ok with it, not sure why many of you are getting your panties in a wad over it

My guess is butch knows absolutely nothing about his baseball talent. He may think the kid can help

For those that don't know. Perfect game ranks players this way

1-499

Then another 100 or so at 500

Then another 1000 are ranked as top 1000

Then another 1-2k are ranked as "high follows"

Then virtually every other kids that has ever played in their events are ranked as "follows"

Josh Dobbs was ranked as a "follow"

That's a very very very low ranking

So you are saying he should do what a fan base thinks is best for the team and not what he wants to try for himself?

You completely miss my point. Anyone at that age should be able to explore their options regardless of what their occupation or "job" (as in college football player) is. Insert any other position you wish in the grocery bagging spot. He's a young man with a bright future whichever way he decides to go in life. Who is it for some random board members to give life advice to another person when only trying to protect their own selfish agenda. Which also by the way, is ridiculous that people can get so wound up about what this young man decides to do with his time. I am as big a TN fan as there is but I am not about to lose sleep over the choices that he makes in athletics while getting his college education.

But what does it matter if he is a good baseball player or not? If he is good enough to make the team, then he will. If he is not, then Butch has just given him the opportunity to pursue it and will make Dobbs happy. Happy Qb=wins............well, not sure if that's exactly true, but you know what I am getting at.

If he is talented enough to play professional baseball then I think he should play baseball.

That's the only reason. I don't give a damn what he wants to try for fun or a distraction

All we have to go off of talent wise is perfectgame and I outlined his rankings there on talent

Wth is the big deal. My god let the kid have some fun and play baseball. I would have loved to play college baseball!! There's plenty of athletes in college that play multiple sports. I'm sure hes not the only one on a national contender type team to do this. Have fun Dobbs

So if he is the #35 player on the roster that never plays you think that isn't a waste?

How exactly would it be a waste? I think it is actually a good thing and will only help his sharpness as a QB. Just my opinion and seems to be the opinion of our HC, which is probably why he is completely ok with it.

Has he said he expects to make MLB? Not everyone likes baseball but for the people who do it is a very fun game.

There have been plenty of football players who have also played baseball and even basketball. Didn't seem to be a negative for any of them.

Josh is obviously an amazing kid who can handle a lot of things going on at once. I get that he is in college and can do whatever he wants. If that's his choice I hope it works out for him.

But Butch always talks about having a ceo quarterback. I wouldn't expect most CEOs to have a side career. And off season football training and in season baseball training are very different programs.

Nobody is asking for Josh to come and explain himself. It's a message board so people voice their opinions.

If he is doing to contribute and help the baseball team then it certainly is worth it in many ways.

If he is going to sit the bench it's a waste being away from the football team.

The players that have been successful at playing both actually had a role in baseball. I don't that happening with Dobbs

If he's going to pitch, this will give him an opportunity to work on his "home run" pass.

A little surprised nobody put this out there but it didn't seem to affect Jameis Winston. He also had a lot going on outside of football......

So, if he rides the pine and doesn't play a second on the field, it will affect his success with the football team? But, if he is ALLSEC in baseball, it wont affect his success with the football team? Just trying to figure out what your problem is with this all.

How many college kids out there would love to be the #35 player on a Division 1 Baseball team in the SEC?

Almost everyone.......

Lol

How many all-sec type players in football would want to be #35 on a baseball roster and never play?
