Dobbs tries out for baseball

Again it's worth the risk in some ways if he helps the team or himself with the draft.

It's completely a waste for him to sit on the bench

He's still away either way. So even if he contributes to the baseball team or helps his MLB draft stock, according to what you just said, it will negatively affect the football team.

You would be more consistent if you just said he should stick to football only.

I am being consistent.

Any time away from football will hurt teambuilding/leadership in some ways.

That is worth it if the kid has the baseball talent of a Winston and wilson

No you aren't.

He's away either way, whether he plays every inning or he rides the pine every inning. Your rant was how important it was for offseason leadership and that it would be damaged, and I don't know how to make it more clear he will be gone either way. So the "damage" you ranted about is going to happen even if he turns out to be the next Ozzie Smith.

So if your rant is that you don't want it to hurt the football team, which was obviously what got your shorts in a bind, then to be consistent, you should simply say "He needs to stick to football". Him being good at baseball will only be a positive for himself and the baseball team, the negative effect on the football program still stands.

Good grief.

It's not so hard to understand.

If the kid is an elite baseball talent(I don't think he is), he should play baseball. Any harm done on the football side of things is worth it.

If not he should be with the football team all spring. It's very simple

As for football players playing baseball. Perry and McDowell are the 2 that do have real potential on the baseball field

Back in the day -- seems like we might have borrowed someone from football and basketball :

Condridge - ss --- qb
Randy Wallace - 3b --- qb
Tommy West - Lf --- rb
John Yarboro - of / p --- wr

Mike Smithson - p --- pf
Rodney Woods - inf --- pg
Dave Mitchell - of --- sg

Apparently it is.

But you know what, I'll try to get word to Dobbs he needs to clear it with you to make sure it's "worth it" or not.

If he is talented enough to play professional baseball then I think he should play baseball.

That's the only reason. I don't give a damn what he wants to try for fun or a distraction

All we have to go off of talent wise is perfectgame and I outlined his rankings there on talent

I hope Josh makes the team just to spite you. No other reason... just so it irks you.

Wth is the big deal. My god let the kid have some fun and play baseball. I would have loved to play college baseball!! There's plenty of athletes in college that play multiple sports. I'm sure hes not the only one on a national contender type team to do this. Have fun Dobbs

Jameis played baseball and he made an NFL roster. Dobbs probably won't make the team anyway. So, I don't see what the big deal is. He probably wouldn't even have gotten a tryout if it wasn't for who he is.

Wouldn't be the first time a quarterback was a baseball player for UT. I can think of three: Todd Helton, Condredge Holloway and Alan Cockerel. If I'm not mistaken, all three were All-Americans in baseball.

Years ago Ron Widby punted, played basketball, and lettered one year in baseball and golf. Talk about an athlete.

BTW, Vincent Perry and Cortez McDowell are interested in trying out in the future according to the War Room.

Trying out and actually making the team and playing are completely different. He hasn't played in three years and will be competing against guys who are doing this year round. I know he was very good in high school but this is way different. All IMO of course.

It's worth it if he can contribute and especially if he had the potential to be a mlb draft. I don't see that after seeing perfectgames ranking for him

Baseball evaluations are hit or miss just like any other sport. If he makes the team, then clearly CDS thinks he can contribute in some fashion, so he deserves a shot, and he can play if he wants to. He wouldn't even miss spring practice. If he doesn't make it, then this is a non issue anyway.

I was able to find that he had a baseball offer from Duke in high school.

I don't really understand how he doesn't miss practice if he makes the team. The baseball season starts in Feb. and runs at least through May. Orange and White game is April 16. The baseball team plays at Auburn that weekend.

He would just be away from the baseball team during all spring football activities

If true then he has a legit chance of making the team, and good for him. Everyone is going nuts when in reality many people have played duo sports in college and why not? Dobbs clearly has the capacity to juggle various things at the same time, and succeed at all of them might I add if you haven't noticed by now. Therefore Dobbs knows what he's doing and why he's doing it, who are we to give him limitations?

Did you not read the above sentence: "If Dobbs were to join the roster sources say he would not miss any spring practice time in football."

Too much stake for you or him? If he wants to play baseball and can help out the team by all means he should. He's in college, let him enjoy it........

See above.....

totally agree....

Baseball has 1 open roster spot and if Dobbs can contribute in any way I'm sure CDS would love to have a person of his athleticism and character on the roster. It's not like he's taking a roster spot from someone or taking a part of the 11.7 scholarships baseball has to offer.

What if playing baseball somehow relaxes him, and it helps make him a better passer? It sounds hair brained, I know, but sometimes the strangest things happen in sports.
