Dobbs tries out for baseball

Only way Dobbs get good signing bonus $ would be to sign this year.

He will make more $ than he would even in AAA with the kind of job he is going to get

I will say obviously you know more about it than I do. Im surprised that he would go straight to large salary without cutting his teeth first unless he interns first.

Hell Bear educated me on just how bad AAA
Can really be for some players.

Financially speaking if a person knows they are never getting to make the big leagues they are throwing away thousands of dollars a year playing minor league baseball. Players that have high earning capabilities outside of baseball like Dobbs would be losing even more playing milb

One of the adjustments you have to make going from spring baseball back to football is the throw. Not a huge deal, but you have to think about throwing it more over the top when you come back to football and not let your arm drift more 3/4's, especially on deep balls. He's a great athlete, so he can do it. Who knows? Time away from just QB throws could actually help him.

So if he is the #35 player on the roster that never plays you think that isn't a waste?

Dobbs obviously enjoys playing baseball. This spring and next are likely the last chance he'll ever have to play. If the coaches are on board, then let the kid have his fun.He owes this fan base not one damn thing.

And for the record, time harmlessly enjoyed is NEVER time wasted.

Josh Dobbs was not put on this planet and did not choose to attend the University of Tennessee so he can entertain a bunch of redneck hicks judging his choices.

Some mouth-breathing, old coot, moron called Sportstalk with the same inane arguments yesterday and I thought I was living in Birmingham again listening to Paul Finebaum. This idiot was even bashing Dobbs' well publicized internship last summer.Josh Dobbs is obviously, able to manage is his time and activities and schedule and does not need some high school or community college dropout second guessing him

I am a proud graduate of the University of Tennessee - unlike most of you idiots complaining I'm sure, and I feel Josh Dobbs's asset to the school and community far outlie his ability to throw a damn inflated brown ball .

So you borderline retarded sidewalk and barnyard alumni need to STFU,grow up and worry about your own inabilities to make strangers happy. Dobbs is going to be far more successful outside sports than in and he deserves the right to do whatever he wants to do as he's obviously meeting his obligations. He attends most of the games and many of the practices anyway, so he might as well wear a damn uniform.

It apparently may come as a surprise to you idiots that the word "football" does not appear within the mission statement of the University of Tennessee and that Josh Dobbs and many other athletes may actually care more about their education than their sport as well. As simpleminded viewers and attendees, they have really little responsibility to care what some idiot in Del Rio thinks about their performance and and priorities.

Awesome post fryeguy93! Took the words right out of mouth, however you said it more eloquently.....

Oh yea thinking a kid that isn't talented enough to play in the SEC is wasting his time he could be spending bettering his team and himself at the sport he is talented enough to play makes us all those things Frye.

Stick to making excuses for CDS and his failures. Better look hard this year Because that excuse of the weather doesn't look good so far. Great day to play 2 today

But it's his time. If he chooses to spend it playing baseball how is it a waste? Do you spend all of your free time getting better at your job? I imagine that Josh will spend plenty of time getting better at his craft this off season. What he does with the rest of his time is really nobodies business.

You see it's not his free time. If he makes the team It's taking away from mandatory work time with the football team

Per PG Dobbs wasn't very well thought of at all as a baseball player. 1star maybe 2star at most for the stat watchers

A football teams needs it's QB/leader in offseason workouts and other offseason activities. That's very important

Much more important than a walk on or less talent wasting time at that ballpark

Wouldn't engineering classes be more of a distraction than baseball practice?

Should he switch majors to make it better for team chemistry?

Correct but football players do much more than spring practice. They have 8hours a week of mandatory workouts and skill work outside of spring practice

Has it been said that he wouldn't do that skill work? I imagine that Coach Jones and Dobbs have already taken this stuff into account. And if they have figured it out why is everyone so worried?

By NCAA rule he can only do 20hours a week total

who's worried? its just Bruin and a few others.

People forget that Donn Pall finished second in Heisman voting, then took up baseball and won a national cchampionship in both sports the next year. Also was a high draft pick in both sports.
