Dodge Challenger Question?

Hey all

looking to buy a new Challenger and it seems like most people think you have to get the V8 but a few say the V6 pretty much gets it done. Any thoughts?

looking at either the R/T, the SXT Plus or even the GT since it is AWD.

Quick question, Newt. Where are you located??

Black. Always black.

Black looks amazing. I've got a black on black 2017 SS camaro and it's beautiful in black on black like the challengers are. Just gotta warn you It's a pain to keep black clean. It's worth it,but it's not easy I clean my car weekly and I'm buying wax and detailing for it

As I have gotten older, I no longer want to clean a car very often. I now buy cars that don't show dirt.

I can't remember the last vehicle I had that wasn't black. I actually think they hide dirt fairly well.

Practical considerations: 6 cyl should be cheaper to insure, maintain, and fuel.

Real Talk: It's time to think with your heart and lead foot here! Get the meanest V8 you can afford. Baby it, garage it, do NOT use it as an everyday driver. Have fun without losing your license. Some day that Hellcat will be worth much more than you paid for it while nobody cares about 6cyl "muscle" cars.

You have a great car, but some folks prefer the comfort, ride, outward visibility, trunk space, rear seat room, and appearance, etc. of the Challenger. If you want a Challenger that will run with your car, you need the 485 or 707 horsepower engine.

The only problem with that much horsepower is that there is really nowhere to use it on public roads. You can do 100 mph in less than 10 seconds from a stop. The old saying is that it is more fun to drive a slow car fast, than to drive a fast car slow. If you want to accelerate hard from 40 to 80 mph, you don't get to stay on the throttle very long.

Want all of that, turn in your man card and get a mini-van. :)

Black. Always black.

Good look. We should all meet up at the Cars and Coffee event in Knoxville and watching Vipers destroy medians and Mustangs veer off into crowds. Good times.

Man, it's a good time to be alive if you love American horsepower. I drive an SS Camaro but appreciate the Mustangs and Challengers. We are all pushing each other to make better cars.

I am not so sure about Hellcat future value. They have made quite a few of them, and we may be filling up with something other than gasoline some day. A Hellcat may be looked upon like smoking in a public place is today. It may be just a piece of art in 40 years.

All of us old guys who buy those kind of cars will be dead in 40 years. Plus, it will be outrageously expensive to repair some day. Almost all of today's new cars may be throwaways.

Mine doesnt. Anytime I go somewhere I'll come home and my car is covered in pollen and dirt. It doesn't matter if I take a 5 minute drive to McDonald's

I agree to an extent. I know if I had gotten a v6 camaro I would have craved mmore and probably gotten buyers remorse. But not everyone is like me of course

All sport cars with a V6 come with a free box of Tampax! If you can't afford the big boy, go home.

Wish I had got red. But I'm grateful I enjoy cleaning it. I can't complain, not many 23 year olds can afford what I've got
I am glad to see some young people interested in American muscle cars instead of Japanese buzz bombs. Congratulations. I am happy for you. I remember being young, and dating hot, young coeds and having excess horsepower. It's a great time in your life.

I still like hot cars, but my wife would frown on the young women.

Thank you. My girlfriend isn't too excited about my car she calls it a chick magnet which I find silly :)

I just bought my 2017 SS camaro about 2 weeks ago tell me about yours

I noticed, you didn't make a bad choice!

I bought a 2016 2SS convertible back in February. Just had 4000 miles. It's mosaic black, I think like yours, with black rims, and gray leather seats. I've played with it a little, got it up to 135 and backed off (they're supposed to do 165 or so). At 135, it felt like I was doing 80, it sucked down to the pavement and was smooth. For the most part though, I've babied it.

Haven't done any modifications to it yet, and not entirely sure I'm will, maybe when the warranty runs out.

Overall a very comfortable nice ride. Yeah, the back seats are nothing more than shelves to put crap, but I didn't get it for a family car. The visibility issue I've gotten used to, although the sensors for the blind spot on the mirrors and back up camera are a huge help.

You did right by going with the V8. You would have regretted getting a V6 (not that they're bad HP cars, but the SS in on that next level). Gas mileage isn't actually that bad, I think I average 24mpg but I do a lot of interstate driving.

I love mine I'm tinting the windows. Mines black on black like yours. Tinting the windows and blacking out the emblems except I'm gonna put a red outline on them, I might also put a red outline around my black rims but idk yet

Gas mileage isn't nearly as bad I thought it would be. I'm still scared of mine I've gone 85 that's it :)

If you are able, try to hang on to your car forever if you really like it. I still have my AMX that I have owned for 47 years, and when I get in it, it brings back all kinds of great memories. I can turn the clock back when we reunite for a run. I can be 20 again.......for a while.

Bet it's gorgeous. You'll have to post a picture when you get an opportunity.

Definitely keeping mine I'm in love with it. I'll have it paid off in 3 years
