Does Jalen Hurd Seem a Bit Too Tall For a Tailback?

Can't believe nobody remembered the "Nigerian Nightmare" Christian Okoye...dude was a monster...I know he was like 6-3 or 6-4 but I think he was close to 300....rb from chiefs bout 20 years ago..dude use to flatten folks...only played 5 er 6 years I think....anyways, don't worry bout hurd...he will be a BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GBO!!!!!!!!!

Edit:...dude was 6-1 and 260 according to wickipedia...I don't know what I was thinking...lol

He's a much better athlete than Eddie George. George was a powerful, yet slow plodding 3 yds and a cloud of dust guy. Jalen has great size like Eddie, but he has elite speed, 4.37 speed and great burst. George had neither.

I hope Jalen turns out to be the greatest of all time, but let's not belittle what Eddie accomplished......

4 Pro Bowls
1st Team All Pro in 2000
2nd Team All Pro in 1999
Offensive ROY
Heisman Trophy

Thats a little better than a plodding 3 yards and a cloud of dust guy.

I looked up most of these players and Dickerson and George are the only ones i found claiming 6'3.

Facts are facts.....6ft 4in running backs are hard to find. Keep tryin.

Well his rivals profile says 6ft 3 in....so you know facts are facts and there is so much dumb in this thread

More like 6'1" 250-260. That's why nobody has mentioned him. Played taller but wasn't.

Thanks GLD!!!....just got done looking it up on wickipedia and u are exactly right!!!....I don't know what I was thinking...been a long day I guess...lol....GBO!!!

ESPN has him listed at 6-4. I'm trying to think of an elite tailback who was that tall and I'm drawing a blank. I'm not saying that an elite 6-4 tailback is outside the realm of possibility, but I definitely think there's a reason the average height of running backs in the NFL is 5-9; namely, a lower center of gravity allows for quicker changes in direction, which is something running backs have to do.

The tallest elite running back I can come up with is Eric Dickerson, who is 6-3. So it isn't impossible, but he's definitely the exception. And he was also just a uniquely talented player.

Am I overthinking this? Is Hurd definitely going to be a stud?

Looking forward to see him play! Either way, he will be valuable.

You surely don't want to argue the fact that tall rb's are few and far between do you? I didn't say Hurd couldn't be special, I simply said it would be rare. If you choose to argue that......the level of dumb in this thread will increase by one.

Watch old films of Marcus Allen (USC and Raiders) and you'll find a slightly less muscular and slower Jalen Hurd. Marcus owns a Super Bowl ring and I think a NC one, too. Pretty good for a tall RB. All those tall, big-handed long-armed guys are more adept at pushing off defenders and catching passes.....blocking on the edge, too. Even if he doesn't play RB, this kid will play a lot. My bet's at RB.

I was in mid sentence saying the same thing on the opening pay against station camp when he busted one for 60+ yards... sent a text right after that saying....never mind :)

Do you know what's better than a 5'9" 190 pound RB who runs a 4.4 40 yd dash?

A 6'4" 235 lb. RB who runs a 4.40 40 yd dash.

We didn't get Hurd to participate in midget wrestling. He will be fine.

Granted high school is nothing when it comes to the SEC but the kid has a unique ability to break tackles and keep his feet moving. But what I like most is that he sees the whole and explodes with quickness through it. You don't see much dancing around reversing field crap. I think Hurd will be a star and take many trips to the checkerboards!

GBO!

Sorry. Senior moment, but the 8 is right next to the 9. Maybe that's why when the wife had me go get eggs and milk, I came back with cottage cheese and sweet tea.

Actually I thought he was like 6'3" myself. I was surprised when I saw he was "only" 6'1". I loved to watch Okoye run the ball he was a true beast.

This too tall talk has always puzzled me. If a guy is 6'2 he can be a great running back, but add 1 or 2 inches and he is too tall?

Tge reason you dont see to many tall running backs is because tall kids in high school have already been moved to qb or te or wr. Didnt beech play him some at wide out and he was much more effective as a rb?

Unlike most 6'4 kids in high school that hear their coach preaching wr or te to them Hurd stuck with running back and is a pretty damn good what from the games I saw in person last year!

I am most excited about seeing him in orange over any of our other recruits. This kid is special, so sit back and enjoy the show and don't worry about his measurables.
