Does this kill the ACC?

ACC has some sort of contract that is preventing them from leaving, I believe.
Some would’ve already left had they not been locked into this contract.
The whole conference looks stupid calling itself the Atlantic Coast Conference and having west coast and Midwest teams in it

I think even if a team has a buyout to leave the conference, their media rights aren't released by tv contract until like 2035.

What it will take is a lawsuit against the media rights or reaching a settlement price for them.

I can see FSU or Clemson ponying up $100 to jump ship to SEC or B1G.

Clemson and FSU both would have been better served joining the SEC, but the ACC offered an easier path to undefeated seasons. Now they’re a victim of their own strategy. They would have been a better geographical and cultural fit than OU, Texas, Mizzou and aTm. I have a feeling the next two teams to join the SEC really start to dilute the product. The whole super conference garbage is just sad.

We are 5 to 10 years away from 2 Super conferences of 32 teams each.

Notre Dame isn’t in the ACC in football.
Clemson has 3, FSU has 2 or 3 I think. Miami has more.
Other than that, they don’t have much to offer in the way of football.

Since 1980, the ACC has the second most. Take ND’s one away and it’s still the same.
Since 2000, ACC has second most national titles.
Since 2010, ACC has second most football titles.

Take the two most successful programs away from any conference and what is left:

What does the Big 10 have to offer? Wisconsin one Penn State playoff appearance?

What does the Big 12 hang its hat on? TCU and Kansas State from 1998?

PAC 12.. Oregon’s 2nd place trophies or Washington’s two playoff appearances?

It might accelerate the slow death some.

Truth be known, not that PAC12 has imploded, the ACC is now the lowest hanging fruit left.

Beyond that, it is a conference of haves and have nots. FSU, Clemson, and associate member ND have carried this conference for years while Wake, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse and VT have held them back in just about every sport except mens basketball.

In the SEC, even SCAR, Vandy, MissSt and Ark provide top tier competition in one or more sports such as Basketball, Baseball, etc.

FSU, Clemson and even NC/NCSt are getting frustrated for having tiny tv stipends while SEC/B1G teams are raking in 3 times the coin!
I'm not sure Big 12 is above ACC. The ACC has much more lucrative markets than the Big 12.

Florida State and Clemson absolutely have to be scrambling right now to join the Big Ten or SEC. Remaining in the ACC simply isn't viable for them any longer and, unlike Louisville/Syracuse/Pitt and company, they actually have a shot at joining one of the Power 2 conferences as oppoesd to trying to land in the Big XII.

Wouldn't it be crazy if FSU sued ncaa and playoffs committee and judge (FSU Alum) granted a temporary stay until their case was heard?

That would almost force the committee to go back and do an emergency 12 team implementation.
Crazy would be an understatement, but I would love to see it.

FSU gets their chance to play a big boy game vs. Georgia. Neither of those teams may be highly motivated but if they beat the Dawgs - they might end up second. My guess is they get drubbed and fall down around 7th in final rankings. The injury deal is difficult no doubt but it is not fair to give Michigan a bye vs. that sad quarterback-less ACC team.

FSU won a championship in 14 with Jameis Winston under the current 4 team playoff system. I think they and the ACC will be okay in the long run. We need to be worrying more about our own team, instead of crying about FSU not making the playoffs, because their started went down and the two backups wasn't going to beat any of 4 playoff teams. Nor could they beat Ohio State or Georgia right now.

After today’s decision by the committee, doesn’t this kill the ACC. I can see FSU, Clemson and Notre Dame leaving.
Cool. Guess what? They’re locked in a Grant of Rights until 2036.

Unless they each want to pay a buy out AND an equivalent amount to all the TV revenue each would make in their other conferences over the next 13 years to the ACC, they’re stuck there.

I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN/SEC pushed for this to happen for the very reason of killing the ACC.

But, the ACC was 6-4 versus the SEC this year....

It is a slap in the face to the ACC for sure ... but with the expansion to a 12 team playoff, probably the only time something like this will happen. Still, you have to feel bad for Florida State's players.
