Does this kill the ACC?

It sure hammers the ACC’s credibility. A team just went undefeated with two OOC wins at Death Valley and the Swamp got a participation ribbon. With the PAC 12 dying, they might as well refer to it as the Power 3 and G6.
…I’m not sure the new Big 12 is enough to be of a “Power 3” type level either though, to be perfectly honest.

Do they base this on anything or absolutely nothing?
This guy has connections in the Big 12 I think. He has a tweet pinned where he’s showing that he was aware of the USC/UCLA move to the B1G 6 months ahead of time. He was aware of the PAC-12 implosion way ahead of time.

The Grant of Rights would have to be changed and changing it would be a money loser for most of the ACC schools. I can't see it.

With the Grant of Rights in the ACC, any school that leaves STILL owes the ACC their media money until 2036 even if they aren't in the conference. If FSU joined the SEC, they'd have to give their SEC media money to the ACC until 2036. That's an enormous ball & chain, even if they agreed to it just to get out.

Schools like Boston, Syracuse, Va Tech, etc have nowhere to go and earn ACC money. I can't see them voting to cut the money their athletic department makes.

The NCAA has spoken, though. Only the SEC and B1G actually matter in football.

The ACC is dead under their current tv deal. Vanderbilt will be bringing in twice as much money annually than the programs that want to compete with the elites like Clemson, FSU, Miami. They can buy their way out but It’s an insane amount of money. Their current deal runs until 2035 and ESPN has no incentive to renegotiate it

This is much more an indictment of the playoff committee than the ACC. Clemson went undefeated and got in the CFP. The playoffs are now officially a complete joke and has ZERO credibility.

This comment below from the series of tweets from the above is very telling.

Also being told this wasn’t a deliberate act to further destabilize ACC. It was done to protect SEC reputation/investment. The former being a bonus collateral damage.
Interesting. Haven’t read any further . I don’t think the SEC needs protecting. Even if Bama was left out, nobody would’ve thought less of the league. Everyone would’ve thought that UGA or Bama would’ve won the CFP had they been in. History tells us that’s most likely the case.

I believe the SEC has had a team in the playoffs since inception. That's being protected.

I said last night this would happen, though I still think GA is the better team, I get the Bama pick.

This is about the revenue the playoffs generate. Bama > FSU all day, every day when it comes to drawing eyeballs to the game. With the obvious unfairness, it's even more of a "watch to hope Bama loses" or "watch to see Bama show they deserved it" game.

The NCAA and the Mouse don't care why you watch, they only care how many watch.

I think it’s really a pretty dumb question with a 12 team playoff. Everybody is going to get in eventually.

If FSU wasn't thinking about bailing on the ACC, you can sure bet they are now.
Could it possibly be that Boo Corrigan torpedoed them in the committee room because of FSU’s very public desire to leave the ACC? He’s an ACC guy isn’t he? Put it this way, maybe he didn’t fight very hard. Never underestimate pettiness and revenge as factors in anything.

The demise of the ACC was already inevitable, but I think this speeds up the process of Florida State for sure and possibly Clemson looking to exit earlier and eating a larger chunk of that buyout.

Since expansion is inevitable, I hope FSU, Clemson, UNC, and either UVA (most likely) or VA Tech come over to the SEC so at least we are maintaining a southern conference.

Cool. Guess what? They’re locked in a Grant of Rights until 2036.

Unless they each want to pay a buy out AND an equivalent amount to all the TV revenue each would make in their other conferences over the next 13 years to the ACC, they’re stuck there.
What if over the next 12 months Florida state and Clemson sues the acc for breach of contract to get out of their deal with all that’s happened. Getting left behind in tv money, the unsigned gentlemen’s agreement debacle, the proof in the pudding being Florida state being snubbed in spite of going undefeated. And I would expect the sec would welcome them because it would give the conference more marquee games and therefore more $.

I think two things will happen-FSU will get prison raped by Georgia, and a lot of the tough talk will die down. But I also think they are on the rise, and they will be a factor going forward. It’s unfortunate that their quarterback got hurt, but he was this team. They are currently an also ran without him,

I think if FSU QB wasn’t hurt they’d definitely would have made the playoffs. You always hear football is a team sport. I’m just not sure how you leave an undefeated conference champion out. FSU definitely has the best gripe I’ve seen or heard of in a while for being left out in the cold while a bama team makes it in one game removed from the iron bowl fiasco they had no business winning. Thanks again Auburn

People are blaming the QB injury but it's a distraction from the fact that the CFP committee just pulled something that has never happened before. Discluding an undefeated P5 season from playoff contention because their SOS wasn't as impressive as the next 1-loss team. It's money driven BS, TV networks know they will draw a bigger viewership out of a Bama or Texas game than a FSU game. Had nothing to do with the QB - that was their out.

They would never snub an undefeated Dabo Swinney team.

This isn't even a problem next season because there will be a 12 team playoff; seems to me that it is premature to pronounce the end of the ACC. The irony of all of this is that it was the ACC who voted against the starting of the 12-team playoff until next season. FSU would have been in if the vote had been different.

Bingo. Jim Phillips was the one who said that the ACC had bigger priorities than expanding the CFP. Well that really bit him in the ass didn’t it ?
