Does UT make a 12 team playoff with 10 wins?

We are all expecting a difficult schedule this upcoming season. Do we make the playoffs with 10 wins? My answer is yes assuming we win one out of three between Oklahoma, Bama, and UGA. Appreciate the opinion of the entire board and GBO!!!
Depends on who the 2 losses are to. 1 loss is likely UGA. Its about who that second one would be to. Also depends on how the teams we play do. If our opponents all have good seasons our wins against them count for more in rankings. But lets say Florida, Bama, NC State and Oklahoma take 4-5 losses each and the rest of our opponents do about what they are expected to do. It would destroy our SoS and SoR. But on the other hand if we are 10-2 and all those teams are ranked end of season its a different story. 4-6 of the teams on our schedule will likely be ranked when we face them. In fact its within the realm of possibility that we face 10 bowl-eligible teams this season. That being said its totally possible we make the playoffs with 9 wins depending on the aforementioned SoS/SoR. With the conference realignments,

I think the top25 will look a lot different than it has in the past because BIG10 and ACC teams won't have quite the cupcake in conference schedules they have in the past. teams will start seeing how it works playing 6-7 games a year against teams with a pulse instead of getting 3-4 in-conference gimmes every single year.

Assuming wins over NC State and Florida seems premature.
If we don't trounce Florida at home this year, we ain't winning 10 games. It's beyond time to get that monkey off our back. They were terrible last year and still handled us fairly easy. If that happens again we probably are looking at an eight win season.

Don’t forget who our QB was and how awful our WRs were. Worst WR corp in the SEC, imo.

Maybe it's bvs, but that Oklahoma game concerns me, but agree we should decimate Florida but again we've lost to the sh*tiest Florida teams before, like the 2011 game Hunter went down and all Florida did was run jet sweeps with Demps and Rainey.

I need someone to explain to me how OU is better
They had a bad year the year before.
Last year they were 10-3 with a win against Texas.

We’re playing them in Norman.

Tennessee has the more talented team imo, but it’s going to be tough road test

I feel pretty confident if we win 10 we'll be in. The SEC had 5 teams finish in the top 12 last year. While it won't quite like that for the playoffs, we should at least get 3 in. Remember, we finished the regular season at 6th when we went 10-2 in 2022. I expect that we will finish 10-2 as well. We'll split Bama and OU, and lose to Georgia.

Not necessarily better, but I think talent wise top to bottom, they are pretty comparable to us. Factor in that it's a home game for them, plus it's their first conference game as a member of the SEC. they're going to be highly motivated to win. I'm sure that home crowd is going to be rowdy too. It's a really big test for Nico. I think this game is going to be a dog fight.

Definitely. Better question would be do they make it in with 9. Depends on the losses and what the rest of the field looks like, but id say probably no. 10, especially if the losses are Bama and at uga OR at ou and at uga, and we should feel very confident.

A 10-2 SEC team with the new additions and everyone's schedules much tougher (on paper at least at this point), may still produce a top 5 ranked team, if not higher.

Give me a 10-2 SEC team over ANY other 11-1 team all day

I also think 9-3 SEC teams will get in. Why not, especially if they are beating up on each other??

For those chalking up OU as a loss....they were 77ish in total defense. Yes they had a great offense but the QB who led that offense is up in Eugene, OR playing for the Ducks and they will be starting a brand new QB. So are we you say? Sure but he now has a full game vs a Top 10 defense on a big stage and we now also have a much better OL. Our DL will harass Arnold. We win by 10.

Probably/maybe.

Probably if our only losses are to two top 10 teams whoever that may be at the end of the regular season, (probably Bama and GA)

Maybe if one of our losses is to an inferior out of the top 20 team.

A 2 loss SEC team is almost assuredly worthy of a playoff spot and the likelihood of getting in is high, but not everyone throughout the country and on the committee is going to feel that way, so it’s not a certainty by any means.

All that being said, I’d prefer to leave no doubt by going 12-0 or 11-1.

There’s so much hatred and bias against TN from the media and now the NCAA, I think they would look for any reason to keep TN out. I don’t think 10 would do it. JMO.

We were 6th nationally with 10 wins in 2022. Ole Miss was 11th nationally last year with 10 wins, despite LSU being their only good win.

If we get to 10 wins in 2024, I would think we will definitely be ranked inside the top 12.

You mean the QB that got drafted? Also, our WR's were not even close to the worst in the SEC. They were not bad at all. In fact, our passing game was exactly mid-pack in the SEC in all stats. Hyperbole is a dangerous thing when overly used.. people end up believing the crap they spout.

One could also consider losing 3 games, and then winning the SECCG. (unlikely scenario)
I think would be an automatic bid

Then could go 10-2 and then lose the SECCG.
That would probably knock the team out.
