Memphis was a pre-season 8 this season, and UTEP has not beaten us this season.
Why would you look at the RPI when you played? That's meaningless. The only useful RPI is the most recent RPI (this season) or the RPI at the end of the season (past seasons).
You're mincing two different metrics: RPI to justify UT's horrible, horrible, horrible loss to Austin Peay at home, then "pre-season rankings" for Memphis to make a loss to a top 100 team in UTEP worse.
As for the "downfall of Memphis", just let the hate flow through you. Give in to your anger. Apply for your full time Hater card, sir. I love it.
Pastners winning percentage will decrease simply due to the fact that he will be playing ranked teams in the Big East.
If he keeps playing the same OOC SOS, then you're right, because our conference SOS will be one of the highest in the nation. The SOS boost in March for the selection committee will make up for it though.
Ok try and stick with me:
Last year when Memphis lost
They were a top 20 rpi team getting drubbed by a 70 rpi team in UTEP
This year when Tennessee lost
UT was a 180 rpi team getting beat by a 190 rpi team
Do you really not see the disparity here? One is a good team being embarrassed by an average team. Another is a bad team losing to a worse team.
As for hating no, I'm being realistic. Pastner as proved nothing except that he can recruit. He can't beat good teams, he can't win his conference in one of the worst conferences, and he struggles to make the NCAA year after year. Those are facts no matter how you spin it that is the truth about joshy poo.
Looking at RPI in hindsight is useless, like I said. It's a measure of how teams have performed, not how they are supposed to perform.
Josh struggles to make the NCAA's? He's been one more time than your coach and had fewer years coaching expereience at the time. He's tied for first in the conference this year and his team is getting a better seed with every projection. Even as a "recruiter only" he's managed to sweep the Vols this year.
Sounds like someone is butthurt to me.
First of all I didn't have time to read all of this stuff.lol
Go back to your Tiger High board. CUSA is a garbage high school league and always will be. Pastner has never beaten a Top 25 team in 2.5 years. He is a Jr. High coach end of story. He will not be around very long in a real conference. Your basketball program is on the verge of regular NIT appearances with Pastner. This is actually going to be quite fun listening to all the Tiger High fans crying on the radio daily. Bye now!

I didn't use just rpi, first time I said pre season ranking. Memphis was 8 UTEP around 80, Tennessee around 180 AP around 200. Once again pre season rankings back up my point that technically the Memphis drubbing was a far worse loss.
Yea and with about as much talent as anyone. Take off the glasses and your realize he is under achieving, every analyst in the country says he has consistently under achieved every year.
As I said we can disagree but don't shy away from this thread when Memphis becomes irrelevant.

Agree with RPI hindsight, it's more a moving target. Unless you're saying Missouri State is on par with Memphis, the Paster/Martin statement is way off base.
Where exactly was UT ranked 180? That's just pathetic. LOL.
And you can spin it however you want, but you won't find a loss on Pastner's resume worse than Martin's loss to Peay at home. That's just the worst. They are terrible! 9-18.
And spin our inclusion in the Big East however you want, but it means better recruiting, more money and more exposure. You may want us to falter, but all the evidence points to the Big East being a step up for Memphis. Pretty much solidifies us as the best program in the State, if there was any question before.
Hate hate hate hate hate hate.

Fair enough, but the Pastner/Martin comparison was in response to your boy's statement that Pastner struggles to get to the dance, when he's getting ready to punch his second ticket and Martin doesn't have his first yet.
That would be you bud!
I know one memphis fan that wants/thinks Pastner is gonna make it and thats you.
Be realistic, comparing first years, Martin's is looking far better than Pastner's.
Yes because depaul, providence, st johns, and rutgers have really benefited greatly from joining the big east. There is a reason cuse and Pitt are leaving ya know, but I'm sure you have an excuse for that move as well.
Yea your the best team in the state yet have a losing record to us over the past series, that makes a lot of sense! Whose been to more NCAA tournaments the last 6 years? Oh that'd be us too. Sorry but you can't be the best team in the state when we have more wins in the matchup, and then you run away and don't wanna play anymore.
Denial denial denial denial denial denial
SPIT TAKE.
Now, I'll admit that Pastner has his faults, but he was 24-10 in his first season and was on the bubble for the dance. He made the NIT and signed the 2nd best recruiting class in the nayion.
Martin is what, 12-12 and on pace to miss the post-season entirely? Come man, Martin may turn into a good coach down the road, but you guys are awful his first year. I've tried to tell you guys that this will be a growing process under him.
LOL. Of course, the ole UT fallback. "Head to head matchups" and throw everything else out the window. I'm sure the Florida fans tire of hearing this too.
As for the last 6 years, counting this one, I'd say it's a tie, homes.
Hate hate hate.
For this season:
RPI for 2012-02-14 - College Basketball - StatSheet.com
Memphis- RPI: 20; SOS: 16 (no real help from UT on this one)
UT- RPI: 109; SOS: 37.
Again, Bruce Pearl ain't walking back through the door. No need to discuss stats when he was here, just like there's no need to discuss Cal's stats.
Wow your uninformed. UT is 13-12 a lock for the NIT, THE SAME TOURNAMENT PASTNER WENT HIS FIRST SEASON WITH A MUCH BETTER TEAM, and still has a shot at NCAA tourney birth.
Wow your stretching here
Whoa.... a lock for the NIT you say? I stand corrected. I didn't know that Martin got his official "You're a lock for the NIT" letter yet from the selection committee. Congrats. Good thing they got rid of that pesky .500 requirement, huh?
As for having a shot at the NCAA's, don't do this to me man. I'm trying to have an adult conversation here. I can't do that when you throw these hints out there that you're actually an 8 year old girl with no grasp on the game of basketball.
To all the normal, rational UT fans out there, I'm not trying to be mean, but UT has no shot at the dance. I'm truly sorry. Things will get better.
