Don't know if true but I'm not happy...(Memphis St series)

Not even close. Road losses, amigo.

This shows the true ignorance right here..wow!

This is why memphis aint sh!t and wont ever be sh!t! Nobody cares about Tiger High! Cal years are over bud! Back to mediocrity!

Did you move from memphis to Knoxville? You had to....you're just as dumb as the ones I work with. Well, except they know Pastner isnt gonna make it. Had another memphis fan tell me at he gym saturday that if his son was choosing between Pastner and Martin, he would pick Martin.

How can you count something that hasn't happened genius?

Still a chance Memphis misses, seeing as how pastner enjoys losing to cusa teams

And

Still a chance Tennessee makes the dance a well and would still hold the lead.

Damn you're uneducated as a mo fo

Please. Stop it. I'm trying to get some work done and I can't when I'm dying from laughter.

Sorry to hear that...

you work with dumb people. That probably says something about you and your line of work.

you're chatting up guys at the gym. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

You truly are this dumb aren't you. Let's see UT is favored in 5 of there last 6 ganes, Vanderbilt at TBA being the only one they aren't. So explain why it's impossible for them to go 5-1?

Favored by who? You?

You guys are 1-9 on the road this year and three of those are road games.

No dip$hit Vegas. You know the people that make odds for a living. Damn your stupid.

I'm still waiting for you to tell me how's it's impossible?

Oh Vegas? That's funny, because Vegas usually doesn't drop a line for games 2 weeks away. In fact, most of the lines for the 15th still aren't published.

Also, it's "you're stupid" not "your stupid". If you're going to try and insult someone's intelligence, don't make yourself look like a dumb*** in the process. Free advice.

Well then you clearly aren't looking the right places because you can find future lines if you look around slick. Also, sites like rpiforecast or stat sites do provide projections on future games, along with the spread.

My apologies I just knew you had been having problems comprehending what I was saying so I thought I'd do you a favor and dumb it down so you could understand.

Way to continue to avoid my question. How is it that it's impossible for Tennessee to get an at large bid?

WEAK!

Typical memphis fan though, avoid addressing anything and just spew out some random shots because you cant handle the facts.

However, yes, men do talk in the gym. Im sure your skinny, non-athletic azz has never been in a gym but the conversations are quite different than the ones you have at the gay bar you frequent, Im sure.

Now do us all a favor GOKILLYOSELF!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got to the gym to get stuff done, not to chat up guys. If you're in the Knoxville area and you want to play basketball sometime, just let me know. I've been looking for a good rec league since I've moved here.

As for the issues in this thread, I've gone back and forth with Mr. 4400 for the last dozen pages. His argument has been whittled down to the point that he resorted to the "we're not mathematically eliminated from the NCAA tournament yet" routine. What more is there to discuss?

Canes, you're a joke. Just give into the fact that your program is tucking its tail.

But you're right. Memphis took a pretty big RPI hit when #2 UT came into #1 Mempis' house and took a dump on your, or I'm sorry, the Grizzlies' court.

Glory days?

And I applaud your proper use of "you're".

You are one to talk about glory days, your program has gone downhill since Pastner got there, yet you keep acting as though your program is the best in the state when in actuality it nay br 3rd best.
Bahahaha

Well we do still have a chance to make it but that is not a point I tried to make. You never addressed anything I said in response to your claims as to why Pastner is better and why memphis should drop the series. All you could do is try to insult instead. So lets try again.

What other reason does memphis have than being scared to continue to lose to Tennessee. We knew this year would be a rough year as memphis' first year was going to be with pastner so dont try to use this year as an excuse. Memphis lost 4 of last 5 and 9 of last 12 against UT. Yes it was under Pearl but that doesnt mean you know you will continue to beat TN under Martin. Memphis is the one that will never return to what Cal made them. Nobody "knows" for sure how Martin's tenure here will turn out. I say better than Pearl you will say otherwise, but if you think he will fail and you will consistently beat UT then why would you not want to continue to play a series that you think you will dominate. Especially considering it is the most exciting game and biggest game for memphis. Even during UT's time of dominating memphis they only took a couple of recruits out of memphis. So the only obvious reason is you're scared UT will be better and steal recruits. We arent arguing for it because we need it more either, neither team "needs" it. Its the biggest game in the state and draws the most attention and is memphis' hardest sellout. UT still has bigger games, for them, against Florida and Vandy, which totals 4 games each year. So actually we need it less. I know it changes for memphis when they get to the big east but that still is no reason to cancel what will still be memphis' biggest game each year. Plus dont forget Pastner made this argument before the big east announcement. So he was scared prior to the news. Dont try the rpi excuse, thats assuming Martin fails. It didnt hurt memphis this year, like you claim, and it has helped your rpi in all previous years. Like I said, even if it did, you still wouldnt want to cancel your biggest game of the year that would make you look good to recruits unless you were scared of losing.

As far as Pastner goes, like I said I know two people who want/think Pastner will make it and I live in memphis. As far as production, you and every memphis fan were suicidal after Pastners first year. The only bright spot was his recruiting. They have yet to beat a ranked team after 3 years while Martin has beat 3 in his first year. Martin was a bigger name hire than Pastner was, as he was listed in the top 5 for jobs at Purdue, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Pastner could not have been a bigger nobody and was not on anyone's list. Martin came from similar backgrounds and can relate to most recruits. He also had a successful college career and made it to the NBA. Meanwhile Pastner was a bench warmer and never played. Martin will be very successful recruiting as long as he can win, which everyone must do eventually to recruit well. If Pastner makes the tourny this year it will be his first based on record, and we all know that is what you go by, not winning a weak c-usa tourney to squeak in!

That's a lot of text and I'm not reading it all, but from skimming, I'll say this:

1. For UT's "domination" of Memphis in the series, in the Martin and Pearl era, UT is exactly .500 against Memphis.

2. In Pastner's first year, with talent comparable to what Martin has this year, he was at least in bubble discussions. Martin is playing for an NIT bid at this point, which isn't necessarily a knock on him.

3. Memphis is one of the more underrated teams out there at this point. RPI= 19, Kenpom= 17, BPI= 17, Sagarin= 19, all with a strength of schedule of 7th. Pastner has the boys playing rather well.

1. You've lost 9 of the last 14 games vs. UT, thats counting this year. So if you think you can beat UT then why cancel the series? We need it less than you, we have 6 games vs. UK, Vandy, and Florida every year. UT is and will stay your biggest game. You're scared to lose and lose recruits. Pastner even said it himself!

2. UT is in "bubble team discussions" as well, not likely but not over yet, Memphis is no guarantee this year either and Pastner was no where near "bubble team discussions" in his first year. Martin is, with a harder schedule, so he has done much better, thanks for pointing that out

3. Memphis is underachieving, they are not playing well, started top ten and continue to fall, no wins vs. ranked teams in 3 years, Martin has 3 in year one

Regardless of who was coaching and whatever else you use to manipulate the numbers, you have lost 9 of the last 13 against UT. You are scared to keep playing and losing to Tennessee. Plain and simple, just like Pastner said.

1. For the most part, Memphis has had superior talent, as well. We beat you in YOUR house, when you had the NBA MVP.

2. If you're going to compare talent, you have to leave Stokes out, because if Stokes were here all season and last offseason, this team would have a completely different tournament resume. Also, your opinion of being in bubble discussions is just an opinion. If he didn't make it, he didn't make it. I don't remember any bubble discussions, because I ignore that boring C-USA garbage unless it's relevant to UT.

3. You say Memphis is underrated... okay well I don't even know what to say to that, because I haven't paid attention to them since our last game. I find it hard to believe a C-USA team would have the 7th hardest schedule, but surely you wouldn't just make that up and throw false statistics out there.

That doesn't change the fact that Memphis is backing out of the series because they're more concerned over not taking a risk and losing to UT than they are over preserving a rivalry.

Just admit that your coach and administration are a bunch of whiney pussaries.

And UT has lost 3 of the last 5 (if memory serves), and your current coach is currently 0-2 vs. Pastner. We can manipulate these numbers til the cows come home. Your assertion that Memphis needs this series more than UT is completely horse crap, as is shown by the outrage and gnashing of teeth in this thread. UT simply brings nothing to the table anymore. The balance of power has shifted further into Memphis' favor, and we simply don't need UT anymore, especially when they bring a 100+ RPI to the table now.

2. UT is in "bubble team discussions" as well, not likely but not over yet, Memphis is no guarantee this year either and Pastner was no where near "bubble team discussions" in his first year. Martin is, with a harder schedule, so he has done much better, thanks for pointing that out

Please link me to one article that supports that UT is in the bubble discussion.

Martin also has losses to Oakland, C o C and Austin Peay. Again, I think Martin is doing well, but I take issue with delusional fans such as you that set unrealistic expectations for him his first year. Fans like you will be the first to call for Pearl to be hired when Martin can't live up to your unattainable expectations. It's not fair to the guy.

It's ok if you don't pay attention to college basketball outside of UT, but don't try to have a conversation with me about things which you obviously don't follow. BPI - Feb. 12 College Basketball Power Index Rankings - ESPN There you go.

That doesn't change the fact that Memphis is backing out of the series because they're more concerned over not taking a risk and losing to UT than they are over preserving a rivalry.

Rivalry??? UT fans are the first to crow that there is no rivalry, as evidenced by Pearl not wearing the orange blazer for Memphis. Now you guys simply want it both ways. Memphis is moving on to bigger and better thing, and our OOC games can be better spent in metro areas where we can showcase for recruits.
Just admit that your coach and administration are a bunch of whiney pussaries.

lol @ stooping to baseless speculation

It's not baseless speculation. It's saying that Pastner had superior talent if you don't include Stokes in the equation. And I'm saying that you can't include Stokes in the comparison, because we have been a completely different team after the addition of Stokes.

Therefore, you cannot compare the success (or lack thereof) of this team for an entire season to that of Pastner's first year, unless you exclude Stokes in the talent comparison.

That may have been a little redundant, but I'm not going to edit it.

I don't know what UT fans have said Memphis wasn't a rival, but they're certainly in the minority.

I didn't say it was a premier rivalry for the school, like Vandy, Kentucky or even Florida. He only wore the blazer for 2 games, and that was to pay homage to Mears. So all that's saying is that Memphis wasn't a main rival when Mears was coach.
