Don't make this loss something it's not

Appreciate the optimism, but facts are facts. We played a good team that had a quick turnaround and found a way to look like we were clueless. Did I expect a win...nope. Did I expect to compete, yes (although from watching this year, I shouln't have).

From what I saw, we walked into the building thinking we would lose...and played accordingly.

If we think we'll make the tournament this year...we're kidding ourselves. We may make one of Cuonzo's patented win streaks at the end of the year, but we have already shown what kind of team we are...and unless the selection committee is blind...they've noticed.

Unless we win the SEC tournament...it's NIT time again. Then watch out for a low seed nobody team to come into TBA and shoot lights out.

This team just got their butts kicked. What makes people think that they can win the SEC? It will NOT happen.

You are very right. We will still make it. It was an ugly game but just one game.

And why are people ok with the fact Pearl lost in the first game twice and and almost lost to a 15 seed as a 2 seed then lost the second game to a 7 seed. They brag about Pearl making it those years and those were successful seasons, but if Martin makes it with less talent than Pearl had and that happens its a bad season?

Could someone please explain the rotation tonight to me? I really have no clue to why certain players play at the times that they do.

Very disappointing, yes. UF's defense just didn't let us get anything. When we could beat it, we struggled to hit shots. Our defense just couldn't keep up. Even when we were getting some hands in shooters' faces, they made some tough shots. We know we could have played better, but UF was throwing the book at us today, and that never makes it any easier.

I know this is a lot to ask for some posters, but try to consider the fact that we played on the road against a top-10 team. We weren't supposed to win this game, but it's very disheartening to see UF tear it open in the 2nd half. Could we have played better? Definitely. Did we lose because of effort? I don't think so. We needed some adjustments at the half, and they just didn't work. It's not that surprising a veteran and champion coach got the best of Martin. Still, a disappointing way to lose. You can't pull out many positives from a blowout.

Plain and simple, this game is not a season-killer. I know many will disagree, but I'm sorry, it's just not true. We have our back against the wall right now and our REAL bad losses (UTEP, NCSU, TAMU) have dug the hole that we're in. We don't have much room for error to ensure an at-large bid, but make no mistake, this loss has virtually no effect on our chances. This is a textbook low-risk game - lots to gain in the event of a win, little to lose in the event of a loss. If we can take care of business, we won't be on pins and needles come Selection Sunday. Obviously, that's not a given, but it's what I'm hoping for.

You're welcome to think or say anything you like about the situation, but take it from me, it's a lot more fun to cheer on the Vols and hope for the best IMO. I don't care how bad we are, as long as our coach and team doesn't blatantly give up, they deserve support from the fans. You don't have to agree, but I encourage you guys to make the best of it and not let it ruin your life.

You are consistently condescending to other posters. Why is that?

How have I been condescending (minus the occasional bout with patrick, vols 30, BOP, and co.)?

Between me and the guy I was responding to in the post you quoted, who was being condescending?

What makes you believe we'll make it? What have you seen that leads you to believe this year will end different than the last two? What do we have left for our rpi?

Pathetic, embarassing and a clear indication this team is not where many thought it would be! Trying to support CCM, but the armor is beginning to wear!

Face it, this team and coach is not any good. This team is made to run. Martin wants to play this Big 10 crap and slow down. I bet Stokes wished he stayed in Memphis. And with Martin coaching you can bet we will not get any good players out of Memphis. And Martin's recruiting has us all 3 star players. If martin stays another year we will be terrible next year after Maymon, Stokes, and Jordy Mac leaves.

You misunderstand...or didn't really read the post. The way we play, I DON'T expect us to win the SEC tourney...simply stating that's the only way we make the tournament.

I totally agree with the haters. CCM made two absolutely inexplicable coaching decisions that sunk this game;
1. Coaching his team to make 1/19 from 3-land.
2. Coaching his best player to go 1/15 from the field.
I mean, anyone knows he should have instructed them to score more. What a loser.

As bad as UT basketball has been historically, just making the tournament is something. Pearl made it his first 6 seasons at UT. Martin is 0 for 2 and about to make it 0 for 3.

If just one player was off, I'd just say he's having a bad day. When every player is off, I start to wonder about coaching

Our RPI will be good as long as we do what we have been doing. We lose to UF and Mizzou and one random and we are in easy. Our rpi is fine. Why do people act like we are 7-12 or something? UVA is hot, now we need LSU and Xavier to nt crap the bed and we are good. Its really simple. We are set up to make it right now.

How many losses to go before it's finally a season killer? All those making excuses for Martin, let me ask you what a coach's responsibilities are? It's not just to stoically stand on the sideline. A coach is responsible for recruiting talent, developing talent, instilling discipline, a system, game planning, motivating, and making in game coaching decisions. With the exception of decent recruiting, and getting rid of a lot of off the court problems, Zo and staff have been mediocre to bad at every one of his other responsibilities.

We keep this guy around, his recruiting will drop off, and whoever replaces him a year from now will have a deeper hole to dig out of. I wish I could say Zo has a plan to move the program up but this year has made it evident he doesn't, at least an effective one.

Obviously the accumulation of more losses against inferior teams is the season killer. Not a loss against a top-10 team on the road. Like I said, we have a razor-thin margin for error at this point.

With due respect you are living in a fantasy land! Martin is not going to "make it." This team is psychologically beat! Talent, Martin has the talent on this team to at least be in the top 15! The cold hard truth is Martin is not an SEC caliber coach! He cannot compete with the "big boys."

It's not just this game or even this team. Look at the last three years! He can recruit but he simply CANNOT COACH! How much more proof do you need?

With regards to Pearl, at one point he was ranked #1, beat some REALLY GOOD TEAMS, made it to the NCAA tournament on a consistent basis, and had the support of the fan base!!! He did this with less talented teams than we have this year... Come on man it's time to face the real facts here. I like Martin and wish that he would have succeeded but the facts are the facts ... We need new leadership! It's time!

It is what it is, but CCM no longer deserves the benefit of the doubt from those like myself who have kind of been holdouts on him. This was the straw the broke the camel's back.

Well, I am ready to let the rest of the season play out, but this would be a good time to move on if things don't work out. It is OK to lose to Florida and Ky, but we need to pretty much win the rest of them.

I am afraid if this season does not have a big turn around, recruiting is going to suffer. Why not just cut and run now (if there is not a big turn around)?

What bothered me the most was that TN players were getting fouled a lot, and it was not being called - and it did not appear to me that Cuonzo was doing anything about it. Unfortunately, it is the head coach's job to get in the ref's faces. I don't think he does that very well at all. (I know a lot of fouls were called, but at times they were just killing us - in full-court press and against Stokes).
